Gas tank Question
If you are dead set against dropping the tank to do a thorough clean-out/inspection/inner lining (your best bet, overall) try this: Top off your fuel tank (with gasoline) and put in a product called SeaFoam. You will be able to find it at any NAPA or Riebes. Drive around, let it swash around (carry about 5 fuel filters with you at all times, as well as a straight-bladed screwdriver). Then filter while draining the tank as EScanlon suggested. You may have to repeat if there is as much gunk as you suggest. I haven't installed a liner on my car, but in one weekend, I pulled the tank, poured in 1/2 gal of MEK (you can get 1 gallon cans of MEK in the paint department of any hardware store), let it sit overnight, agitated the tank, and rinsed. I repeated the next night just as a precaution, and reinstalled the CLEAN tank. Besides the waiting part, and the drying time, it was about 2 hours. If you don't want to wait for the drying time, you could rinse with a bottle of isopropyl alcohol after the water washout of the MEK. Good planning, and you can do this on one night and the next day. (pull the tank, add MEK on Sat. eve; agitate, dump MEK, reinstall clean MEK Sun morn.; agitate and dump MEK Sun eve, rinse, washout with isopropyl, reinstall sun night!!)

noise/vibration at 2500 rpm
Your sig states that you are in the "bay area." Is that the SF bay? If so, if this were my car, I would take the metal fan off the car immediately. The bay temps don't get too high, IIRC. I have had a droning noise from a 4 cyl ford I have, it turned out to be the heat shield vibrating at one certain frequency, no other time. Have you checked all the fasteners around the engine bay?

280z $800
Where'd everyone get $800? The current starting bid is $250...I see this car is relisted... This thing is WAY out of control on the inside, especially the engine bay. I'd consider it for body parts if it weren't in Indiana!

My 240Z doesn't crank - help!
Is your car an automatic? Is there a safety neutral switch in the '73s? My 71s don't have one, but they are 4 speeds.

Heater Blower Question
Sounds to me like the stereo installer tapped the wrong power source. Either that, or you may have a rodent family living in your squirrel cage.

New Guy
Yes, WELCOME! That car is almost what I am doing to my 71. If the car only sat for a year, the carbs may still be good. Mine sat for 12, and a good cleaning brought them back to life! Please update your profile so members may see from where you hail!

Time for a new project/Selling my Z
That is one cared-for vehicle! I hope you find a buyer who will love rher at least as much as you do! I thought RLS30- meant right hand-drive...? Was that the new designation for the 260s?

Does this make anyone else sick?
I think there are more important things to complain about...

Have you checked the mass air sensor? The gate may be stuck/sticking.

Will this work for the wheels?
Well, since I bought the six spoke 280 wheels (what does FZ3 6 JJ X 14 10 mean, Arne?), and those 14X7 5 slot US Indymag mags (which I need to polish anyway) I was thinking about cleaning these turbines off and dumping them on Ebay or Cragslist. I was trying to save myself from having my fingers go numb (not to mention about 20 hours of scrubbing!!). Yes, Jon, I think those cross buff thingies will do me good.
-
Will this work for the wheels?
I have the old style Western turbine wheels, with the close-vaned ridges. IIRC, there are about 30 vanes. My dilemma: No one around here (including pep boys) supplies a cleaning attachment either small enough or less than $80 that MIGHT be efficient in cleaning inside between the vanes. I don't want to put out that kind of money without being sure it will work. I have seen a sort of "power ball" that fits in a drill motor, but that is too large. I have purchased a few sheets of scotchbrite pads of various roughness. If I can manage to fab an arbor, is it possible to cut the pads to a roundness and diameter large enough to sufficiently clean these wheels without putting my eye(s) out? I have no experience working with scouring pads in a rotating capacity.

I didn't need the choke 2 days ago when I pulled 'er out to give her a bath. It was about 75F.

1977 console with slot for a choke lever?
This information is good to know since I tried to sell the console I have for a late model 280, the potential buyer got all butt-hurt when he saw the choke lever slot. Haven't heard from him after I sent him pics.

Ebay scammer
Man, that's harsh. Apparently, Ebay and PP are just like credit card companies...in it only for your money. I wonder what kind of poicies/guidlines they use in their reasoning through disputes. Sheesh.

What is this?
Hey, ChrisA, you are welcome! Arne, the dimensions are such: From the edge of the leather to the tip of the loop is 6 1/4 inches, from tip to tip is 14 1/2 inches. I didn't measure the leather, I was pressed for time this morning.
-
What is this?
Hey, ChrisA, No, I don't have one on my car, I have a few in a lot that I bought from a guy that was getting out of the parts biz after 20 years.' Would you like one?
-
What is this?
Good question. I haven't measured, but I would venture to guess somewhere in the neighborhood of about 5 inches from the leather to the tip of the loop. I will try to get you something definite soon.
