gear clashing
While I am not ignoring or discounting Arne's answer, have you checked the tranny fluid lately? I had a similar problem with my 71 and hard shifting - it just didn't want to shift into 1st or 2nd. Topped off the tranny case with 90 weight, and all is well so far (2 yrs).

Getting frustrated
Here are a couple in my area... http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/684283455.html http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/683531271.html http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/681255088.html This last one has dropped $500. I think the lady needs to sell it to help pay for her daughter's wedding, or something. I posted that one about 3 weeks ago.

Getting frustrated
Patience, grasshopper. My search lasted over 8 years on and off, full time searching the last 2. I didn't settle on a basket case (and there are MANY, as you know). My WIFE of all people found the Series I now semi-daily driven. Stored on the side yard of the PO for 12 years. he was moving and didn't want to move it. It didn't run, but the body was almost immaculate. It's a 20 footer, for sure, but I got her running! You'll find the right one. Sooner if you are willing to fix the big stuff like rust and years of neglect/misuse.

240Z to 280ZX Disti Upgrade Plug On eBay?
I'd like to chime in to sing Dave's praise, as well. I hope he sticks around for a long time! He will very shortly be receiving my rebuildable cores for the combo switch, and will be sending me the headlight harness upgrade kit. I can hardly wait! I already have the ZX alternator diode upgrade, and the ZX (e12-80) upgrade, but paired with the orig. Series I tach.

Chrome end pieces
Is there a way to recrome the ones you have? I have a set that are peeling, and thought that a bumper rechrome company would be able to refinish them. Possible?

brakes
OK, call me silly, or just mentally lazy, BUT what, exactly, does that llittle test tell the OP how to solve his dilemma?

Stupid Distributor Question
If you took off the cap, and saw a mechanical lever operating a contact system, that means you have points. If you see a small "Chinese throwing star" type assembly, with no physical contact being made, then you have electronic ignition. Also, and I may be wrong, but I think only electronic ignitions have a black box on the dizzy, roughly the size and shape of a Zippo lighter - called the module.

So this guy pulls into my driveway and starts honking...
After I get my wife to relax, I go out and ask him if I can help him with anything. In very broken english, he says, excuse me, is that your Z? pointing to my orange 240. Yes, I said. He asked, is it an inline 6? Yes, it's near completely stock, I reply. Turns out, this guy works up the road from me, and sees my red 240 on the way. He's recently moved here from Arizona and has to sell his a blue 76, and asked me if I was interested. I told him I can't (notice the word 'can't', not 'am not') be interested in yet another project right now. I told him I am a member of this board, and would help him to spread the word. So here is the word: Salvador 530 3 3 3 3617. The car is located in Georgetown, CA along highway 193.

3 inch exhasut headers
I concur. I am working on getting a better breathing head and a more aggressive cam before I would think about installing a header.

Mystery brake problem
I second sblake01's post. Do you have old soft lines? getting stainless lines may improve the brake "feel".

Nowadays, V8 blocks are as light - or lighter than the old iron Ls. Have at it, at HBZ.

Hemmings Article - Nissan 50th Anniversary in the US
With all this astute dissension, it makes me wonder, "what happened to the fact checkers and editors at Hemmings? Doesn't anyone over there know what we know on this board (most of what I know about the history of Zs lies in the archives here, thanks mostly to Mr. T, Mr Will and Mr 26th [but in no particular order]). I, for one, would think that SOMEONE from the general car industry would spend a little time perusing the SPECIFIC auto niche websites such as this (and I can think of all of 3 others that are any good) to find out and write about a SMIDGEON of truth, not just regurgitate pure hear-say. [edit] for spelling errors and to add that I hope a bigwig at Hemmings stumbles on this thread! [/edit]

Another 240 owner in Auburn CA???
I went to pick up my freshly lined fuel tank for my 01-71 this afternoon, at a place in Auburn (right next to the train tracks) called ServiceCenter Radiator, and while shooting the breeze with a guy who seemed to be the owner, he tosses out, "I haven't seen one of those things for YEARS, but this week, I get two on the same day." Who and where are you? BTW, the whole boil, seal with Red Coat, exterior paint and warrantee costs $165. It looks AWESOME!! They just had to install a small bung and plug in the shallow end corner in order to drain the excess. HOPEFULLY this will be the end to my sudden loss of power, hesitation frustrations.

Gas tank vent hose routing - Evap Tank
Yes, you can eliminate the evap tank. I have built and installed a "manifold" that sits above the tank, that connects all the various tubing. [edit] anyone want a plastic evap tank? [/edit]

hesitation/ oil pressure?
Try to find the highest point in the system (for mine, with the slope of my driveway, it's the radiator cap), run the car until it warms up, and the thermostat opens. open the radiator cap and fill the void.

hesitation/ oil pressure?
You may have an air bubble or a few in the cooling system Have you tried bleeding the system?

heater
Sounds to me that there is a leak in the temp mix valve, between the heater blower and the firewall, on the passenger side of the climate control in the console. Just follow the hose(s) from the passenger side of the block, through the firewall. You may also have misplaced air tubes (thick construction-like paper conduit for directing the blown air) to the registers.
