Awesome!!! In a church parking lot??? oh, the memories of youth group in the church parking lot.... but I digress. Thanks for starting this thread! I am very impressed and jealous that you have the drive (no pun intended) and the time to follow through wtih your work!!
  2. HA HA HA no, really. I will have to get a pic of them. IIRC, they have a green tint, and you really can see through them!
  3. I have a set of see-through wires if you are interested. In the dark, you can see the electrons flow!

  5. Which, on the HLS30s is the rear driver side. You may have a leaking booster. Have you checked it?

I have some. Please PM me.
  7. Welcome to your fist post, and to the club, if you are new. Your dad and you have a few questions to ponder: What are you going to use the car for, daily driver, autocross, drag, etc? Are you going to "restore a ton of stuff" to it's original condition (concourse)? That may take a few more years than 1 1/2, unless you are uber funded, or you have nothing better to devote your time to than sourcing NOS parts. Are you going to make it a 3.5/5 for a great looking driver? If you are going to build for the street, there are TONS of options. Run a few searches to find the motor/ignition/fuel delivery/suspension/drivetrain options you have, and choose according to how you want to drive. The info is out there. If you are going to race, make sure you KNOW what the requirements of EACH class in which you plan to run. It's a PITA to plan to race in one category, but because of your specific alterations, you have to run in a totally different class and get your arse handed to you. If you are interested in NOT keeping the car anywhere near stock, hybridz(dot)org has a PLETHORA of vehicle engineering and builds, and may better suit you. Remember, it's YOUR car, don't worry about others telling you what you "should" do. This site is mostly about keeping the Z car a Zcar, and keeping the now over 35 year old machines on the road. Good luck, and please keep us posted on your progress through the journey of Z bliss.

from the search menu, click on "advanced search" enter your search term click on the "find posts from" column, choose "a year ago" right next to that, chose "and older" from the drop down menu. when I searched "fuel tank" it showed 100 hits, the oldest from 10/18/06

Oh, don't get me started on that policy. I have been waiting 7 years for 1976 model years to be exempt. (they discontinued the 30+ year rolling exemption 3 months before my 76 would have been exempt - barstards!!!:tapemouth)

Steve, In my area, all the parts places have the "garantee the lowest price or they will beat it" policies. I have found that I can save a few bucks playing their game. Have you tried going to autozone and the like for a price (since you don't plan on using them anyway) and taking it to Kragens?

Last weekend I had an experience that may help. I was removing components to a rear strut, with the ultimate goal of removing the rear bearings/axel for a member's 5 lug conversion. I noticed that the drum WOULD NOT BUDGE. After stripping my spindle pin puller (a story for a different thread, and a completely different problem), and about 1/2 can of PB Blaster, I realised that I didn't need to actually save these parts, the strut was the key. I ended up threading the locknut on the axle and using a 3 lb single jack to knock out the axle from the back side, pushing the frozen drum off the hub, axle and all. It took a bit of persuasion, but it worked for me. It ended up the brake shoes were fused to the inner drum, I had to separate the brake lining from the shoes with a little force. I was able to remove the locknut without too much resistance, leading me to believe that I may be able to chase the threads and reload. Time will tell. Moral of the story: If you have fluid priorities, anything is possible. To the OP, if you have a line on a "new" axle flange, as well as new brake parts, you may wish to try this.?.?

Emphasis mine. Just look up 6 posts before yours. Welcome to your first post, we are glad to have you aboard. A future warning, though, ther are some on this board who take it personally if you don't take time and effort to search your topic question before posting, even if you offer a caveat.

You didn't state what your car is. Sounds usual for an antequated system of a 240. You may be able to mitigate the noise by upgrading to a more powerful alternator, or swapping the FP for a new one.
  14. Not all of them are worn out....
  15. Congratulations, Madkaw!! this was a burr in your side for a while!

My apologies, I was confusing the 8-71 I have that has the storage lids on the rear deck. Carl, it never ceases to amaze me your capacity for knowledge regarding the Z heritage. Thank you.

Oh, I fully understand your point. I was more responding to ZHome's information, backing what geezer brought up.

Good point. I own 19724, production 01/71, wich holds all series I cues, but the rear seat storage containers are plastic, mounted forward of the rear deck.

    Urban legend? You decide!
  21. I was going to also suggest checking your banjo filters, but if you have nearly new carbs you are going to install, it seems moot.

Near the front side of the tank, in the trans tunnel, there "should" be a wire (green on my 71) that's not connected. That's the hot lead. The pump (I have a universal 3PSI pump from NAPA) is grounded by the bolts through the case.

Have you had the tank hot dipped/coated? I had the same problem with stalling/dieing, after cleaning the tank, installing an elec. FP, running new soft lines after blowing out the hard lines, the problem was that the pick-up tube was corroded and not letting any fuel out.
  24. UPDATE!!!! Toyota Prius We get it. You love the planet like a fat kid loves cake. Tell you what — I'll acknowledge your superior consciousness when you stop driving 52 in the fast lane. Hummer Gotta hand it to you. You don't give a three-ton truck about what other people think. That's the attitude that tamed the Old West, that built the auto industry, that barged into Iraq to keep that oil...um, never mind. MINI Cooper (urban dweller) You've got the haircut, the clothes, a taste for obscure bands and obscure coffee blends. What car could possibly make the cut in that hip dictatorship you call a neighborhood? MINI Cooper (suburban dweller) "Oooh, honey, isn't that just the cutest thing?" Yugo You have a sense of humor. And you're contemplating suicide. Chevy pickup You hate soccer, unless your kids are playing. You still wonder what happened to Garth Brooks. You'll buy a Toyota pickup when there's a toboggan run in hell. Lexus "I don't even like cars, but since this is shopping, I'm going to spend a lot of money." BMW "My [insert noun] is better than yours." Rolls-Royce "Please, tell me: What actually was so bad about colonialism?" Lamborghini "This car is the most interesting thing about me." Porsche (as interpreted by Corvette owner) "What a jerk. Probably a lawyer, trust-fund brat, never worked an honest day in his life. Bet he gets his nails manicured." Corvette (as interpreted by Porsche owner) "What a jerk. Probably thinks NASCAR is real racing. He thinks 'dressing up' means a monogrammed bowling shirt." Corvette and Porsche (as interpreted by attractive woman). "What a jerk. Probably takes Viagra. Twice divorced, mid-life crisis. Sad."
