Wondering if anyone has looked into what it would take to possible get a Jeep 4.0Liter straight six in their 240z? I Don't know what the tranny bolt patern is but it would be a nice swap. The exhuast manifold is on the passenger side I believe and you would need to make an intake to fit, say an SU carb on it. I don't think you would want to stick with the fuel injection. I suppose you could but there is a lot of extra's on their computer system open doors and other crap you would have to eliminate some how. If we could just get some one to figure out the engine mounts, transmission to put in and or adapter and a modified intake to fit the SU carbs it would be a killer swap. Just a thougth. Blackjack

Thanks for your help guys. I got her running, the main thing was the injectors where stuck. I had two spare that came with the car and switch two out ended up working out. It doesn't run all that great but it has been sitting for a while. I am going to get the 280zx drive able and take a for a drive and make sure the tranny is good also. I know the throw out bearing is bad but I plan on replaceing all that. With some luck it might just turn out to be a good motor. Thanks ...

I bought a complete 1981 280ZX for the whole drive train. The engine is not running and supposedly it's just a fuel issue. I pulled the spark plugs and it seemed each cylender was dry after trying to start it. Well I did a compression check, I need some advice. First off this motor has been sitting awhile and the head was rebuilt not to long ago, but I don't know how many miles have been put on since it was rebuilt. I did a compression check on each cylinder three times. Pulled all the plugs first. Then started on number one cylinder. 1. 139, 170, 170 2. 130, 138, 170 3. 180, 180, 180 4. 183, 182, 183 5. 180, 149, 100, 115 then added Marvel Mystery oil in cylinder 140, then added more oil 150, then tested it again with out adding oil. 140, 150, 150 6. 183, 183, 183 So what do you all think? I wanted to drop this whole motor and tranny minus the fuel injection stuff in my 240z.. Is this bad rings in this cylinder or does this mean a valve is not seating?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a lot of money right now and don't know if I should just do the swap and see if it will run? Thanks.. Waylon

Can I leave the bell housing and transmisson attached to the motor to do a L2.8 swap into a 240z? Another Ques. what seals typically need to be replace on a 5 sp. manual tranny out of a 1981 280ZX? The owner said all the tranny fluid leaked out. I have not checked this yet. Car is not running. Thanks. Waylon
  5. Isn't it easier to go with the dry cell batteries now a days, since you don't have to worry about spilling or leaking acid on to you paint. They cost more but last longer and have a better chance of surviving a complete drain if you leave your lights on verses a normal battery. my 2 cents..

I actually enjoy the challenge of making those types of things. I made the whole off set bracket to make the hydro boost in my bronco. As well made a bracket to use a saganaw pump istead of using a mustang serpitine power steering pump when I did the EFI and Serpitine swap on my bronco. There is already a spot for it where the smog pump is. By the way is it necessary to keep the smog pump for the SU carbs? Anyone know?

Thanks guys for the info, another question about the doors. I noticed on the driver door the arm rest is completely different to the passenger side is this suppose to be this way or is this just have the wrong interior paneling? Thanks.

Has anyone every gone to hydro boost brakes? I did this in my 67 Bronco and they are great brakes, less effort than any power booster will ever produce. I am pretty sure that there would be enough room to do this conversion just curious. You would have to have a power steering pump added and you could use a donor hydro booster off a 76-78 Lincoln or there are plenty in Astro vans and other Ford vehicles. I don't know maybe most Z owners would think this is sacrilege or maybe not? Blackjack

Anyone close by University and and the I-15 that could stop by and take a look see at my 71 240z and tell me what all I have and give me sub heads up on a few things since I am new to the 240Z community. This would make my life much simpler. Give me a ring. 858-248-5284. Blackjack

I live in City Heights area, Marlborough and University. Yeah I have never heard of the teeth on the fly wheel being so bad it won't start. I am thinking it is a electrical problem. The wires at the steering colmn are all hacked up. Are there any diagrams of the wiring harness on the web? I am curious ar 240Z parts in General expensive? I have a 67 Bronco and there are a lot of thing you can convert from the junk yard or spend thousands and thousands of dollors if you order all the stuff from catologs. There's a big price increase. thanks for helping out. blackjack

Hey all. I'm a new owner of a 1971 240z. It's all there except the front and rear bumper and the inside grill behind the front bumper. It needs some TLC. and I still need to pick it up so I don't physically have it yet. The problem is you have to push start it to get it running suposedly. They were telling me that it was the fly wheel teeth are bad and it just grinds. I am not sure on this the battery needs replaceing and I have not heard it run yet. I don't even know how many miles are on it. I just bought it for $600 bucks. They were just trying to get rid of it. I've been wanting one a long time. Anyone have any ideas on my first diagnos of why it's not starting. It has a new starter and I will check the battery. Other than that once I pull the starter and the teeth look good then what. If their bad what is easier pulling the engine to replace the fly wheel or just the trainny. Any one have a good fly wheel if it's bad? Thanks for any help.
