My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
RIP260Z replied to JDMjunkies.ch's topic in Build Threads
The texture is what's left after the serious corrosion on the trumpets was removed, not from my work. I could have changed the trumpets out, but the other carb has a cut-away on the trumpet particular to a car model, so not something I wanted to try to replicate, therfore let someone else change. I strip the carb, thread holes cleaned with the correct size tap, everything goes in an ultra sonic bath (with plenty of soak time without ultra sonic [I have some laboratory neutral detergent]), cleaned, dried. Blasted (wet) as its easier on the surface (not with anything really abrasive), cleaned, dried, checked. Steel parts get the same treatement before yellow zinc. New genuine gasket kits and replacment parts, esp idle mixture screws replaced wether needing or not (as a groove can get worn creating inconsistent idle). Its quite a bit of work, takes time. -

Nice Nils! These are type 4 PHH 44's, there are different types, and gaskets differ a little. I restore and rebuild these in my spare time, so by the time you replace all the gaskets, its essentially a strip, clean and rebuild. The pump diaphram at the bottom of the carb is where most of the crud sits, and the diaphram is worth changing. I find them a nice project to do. Here is my before and after; -
Datsun 240z 1971 (feb) windscreen wiper mechanism parts?
RIP260Z replied to dutchzcarguy's topic in Help Me !!
Nissan did make wiper blades for high speed, I have a pair NOS for the 510, with a blade to help with downforce. Though unsure if there were Nissan ones for the the S30, without checking. Yes, a common problem with the wiper mechanism, slow and not setting back, most swap to the Honda(?) wiper motor, but a through clean and re-grease may do the trick. -

Spotted this Sports Option diff cooler and pump. Thought it would be interesting for some. @HS30-H can you say anymore, pump under rear floor mounted, bolt holes already exist? The auction listed it for the Fairlady Z.

Hi Kats, Unfortunately the shipment of the spray cans was cancelled shortly after placing, even shipping by sea from Japan looks not possible.....
-
Sucessfully ordered from Japan! Shipped by sea. More than 1, as min number could be ordered from supplier....
-
That's what I have just done, I don't need now, but as its cheaper now, and I had no shipping cost (in with parts bulkier/heavier).

Spotted this on my Yahoo trawl.... https://www.jauce.com/auction/w1150380520

Jeff, I pointed out these retaining rings in post 40, here is a link; https://www.jauce.com/auction/w1147945499 Unless H30-H or Kats know of another place the get original or someone else who makes these, velo1955z is the only place I have found. I have another set of rings arriving today from Japan.
-
True, but sites like Jauce let you buy NOS parts and other rare parts, if you want, like I do, its the price that needs paid, otherwise there wouldn't be any restoration.
-
And here are some reproduction bleed nipples; https://www.jauce.com/auction/w1137033573 The auction has finished, but the seller has listed and sold 2 or 3 sets now, so hopefully more would be listed later if you require Jeff.

The pistons and seals are available; https://www.jauce.com/auction/r1144731421 And can be brought separately. Pistons, in theory, should be available from Nissan. What is also needed, which isn't in the seal kit, are the seal retaining rings...which are avail repro. Stainless instead of steel. Helps keep the water out of the piston. Here is a listing with the maker of the seal rings; https://www.jauce.com/auction/1115276814

The Project Mµ correct pads are about $57 , plus bidding fees and shipping, no doubt under that price of $230 +. Project Mµ great stuff, suitable for street and race, I think from 0-400 degrees C. https://www.jauce.com/auction/w1138774065

One or two compaines in Japan have/are doing reproductions, they look similar, but have differences in the outward apperance, no reference to M63, and I think they have two different size pistons in the caliper. I presume (Alan?) that due to the rebuild costs and the need in the market, these repros are out there. Rebuild parts (mostly) for the MK'S are available, but soon add up if all pistons need replaced. Jeff, if you decide not want to use or need the MK63's I could be interested.
-
Jeff, These look very much like the MK63 four pot caliper, you can just make out a little of the "63" under the red paint. Also, the long ridge down the caliper indiatces so. Do a search here....a very good, period caliper, even in solid rotor form... I have them, and refurbish parts are available. Judge against this pair on Yahoo Japan auctions; https://www.jauce.com/auction/x1145679334 Yours have the vented pads in, which work, but not the correct solid rotor ones.

My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread

Good work! The cigarette lighter you have in the above post is, as far as I know, for a Cedric 130, as I have one too! -
I am finding quite lot of Nissan hardware for the S30 (and to fit my CSP) is available, as some of those parts were used on other models, especially when Nissan's domestic market cars are included. 08310-62012 is listed on another Nissan engine, but NLA, but superceded by 08310-6201A. If you know how to read the part number, the A is more likely a filler, as the important info telling you what sort of fixing and size and length is the same.

That bracket was never fitted to European S30's, as it was added to house an electric fuel pump to try and overcome heat percolation (fuel engine bay) on the North American cars. I have one on mine, but I brought it Stateside secondhand. Even on a mid 1978 built model, the bolt holes are there on the chassis. None secondhand, considering all the volume of S30's that the US got? Or have they all gone to the rusty scrapyard...?
-
Nissan already made a electronic fuel pump bracket for the S30; https://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/engine-240z-260z/fuel-piping#2 Or am I missing something..... is the price of these OEM ones so much, or so rare, repro's need made?

Nice work on the website Florian! Thank you for the crediting me.

Over here in the UK, there seems to be "have to do this" attitude that an imported LHD has to be converted to RHD (cost/finding parts) when again, only driving the S30 a few times a month/ a 1-2000 miles a year ( and some of that likely will be on the motorway [freeway]). Then a lot of the time the windscreen wipers aren't changed over. I think its due to higher prices for a RHD model here in the UK, but that is financial speculating rather than S30 ownership. its still a L model at the end of the day.

It's not a S30, but I have been restoring my wiper pivots on the CSP311, but could be of interest to some. The pivot design hasn't really changed between the models in design principles. https://csp311.net/blog/page-12-ページ12/ Last 1/4 of the page. The wavy washer in the 2nd post in this thread I think is to take up some slack and keep some tension on the arm and pivot housing, as without (like mine) gave room for the pivot move a bit eliptical in the pivot housing (due to a 1-1.5mm space at the bottom of the pivot housing), making everything worn. As you see from my blog a new brass inner sleeve was made for the pivot housing. The original housing had a copper inner sleeve. I have made a brass spacer, and I have added provision for greasing, and machined an o ring top and bottom.

Carrying on from Kats post 11, regarding additons for emmisions cam cover and engine block breather pipes, here is the back of 2 GT-R air boxes. Blue is NOS and earlier, without metal pipes for rubber hoses, whilst the red is later and has provision. I get the impression the design for emmision attachments to the airbox due to come later on were incoporated, as the engine block breather stamping on the box is there from the beginning (blue box), slight curve in the strengthening rib. Enjoy

Another cool Nissalco 1960'-70s (I think item) is this brake bleeder set up. I gather its so the user can bleed the brakes themselves. One currently on Yahoo Japan auctions (at the time of writing) new, and I have 1 too. Very cool.
