again, you should check out hybridz for some cool EFI mods. JustinOlson is making some killer intake manis from rontyler's design.

that'd be pretty cool, but alas i am flying
  9. as was mentioned, plug these puppies up on the new (old) air cleaner, you SHOULD have a couple strange looking bolts that have a ~2" head with a hole in it. those screw on the inside 2 holes of the carbies and accept the wing bolts that hold the "top" of the air cleaner on. i'll try to find you a pic.
  10. from what i hear, the flat top mani is BETTER flowing than the earlier mani. it should just be bolt on! of course you are going to need a new air cleaner, as the RT sus have round mouths versus square. EDIT- also, where did you hear flattops were better for performance? there are some old datsun comp SUs that happen to have flat tops, but those are a COMPLETELY different beast. another upgrade you might want to look at is upgrading your dizzy to a ZX electronic one. EDIT AGAIN - oh, and WELCOME!
  11. honestly, a radiator is where it's at. from what i hear, you can pick up a decent one at your local pick-n-pull for ~50

i say nopers on the 4bbl. a downdraught carb is a poor choice for performance IMHO. if you DO decide to go carb'd, go with triple sidedraughts. i recommend mikunis, but dellortos and webers are also available. honestly, EFI is probably going to give you the best overall performance, though

the gear is rotated by a helical gear on the crankshaft. that rotates the shaft. the locator on the bottom (near the gear) is an impeller for the oil pump, and the other side rotates the dizzy

ya, not very much as the Z31 was a COMPLETELY different car; even more so than the S130

welcome! and as bill said, best performance mod for you will be a 5 speed. not too expensive (figure around $500 for parts) and will make the car MUCH more enjoyable! don't forget to check out hybridz.org as well. there is a lot of support for performance modifications over there.

if you want a good "around town" and weekend warrior combo, i would recommend a later 5-speed and a 3.9 or you could pop a 3.7 in there with the 4-speed. you'll lose a bit of top end, but getting there will be thrills to the gills!

    wow, nice score!!
  22. if it's an MSA fan, chances are the sensor is a meat thermometer-looking dealy stuck into the radiator. it may have fallen out....

^agreed. for best DD ratios, go with something that was stock in a car; i.e. sdwap in an R200 and a 5 speed from the same car. if you want more accel, go with a higher numerical ratio, and vice versa. my combo is 280Z 5-speed with a 3.7 r200. i'm eventually going to go with a 3.9 when i find it
  24. what kind of electric fan is it? trace the wires from the fan to find the switching source. it sounds like it's a bad temp sensor (different than water temp sensor that goes to the gauge) or maybe some wires got crossed.
  25. me want.
