welcome! and david said it as well as i could, your father is helping you with all of the knowledge that he has given you.
  3. i plan on getting the full set tomorrow. let me know what solution you come up with, or i'll let you know my solution.... one way or another
  4. david, can i move in with you?
  5. what a shame.... looks almost salvageable. although, if they part it out, they will be getting rid of parts that could use replacing anyways, so the shell might be just as valuable
  6. are the tops of the carbs flat like this: or round like this? please note that the flat tops pictured above will NOT be identical to yours, and are comp carbs.
  7. <---big fan of the black BRE spook
  8. true aout the linkage. when you let off the gas does your pedal come back up?
  9. i've always just disassembled mine.
  10. yes shouldn't be a problem with 10W40 honestly, i've heard the best damper oil is 20W. IIRC i blended 10W30 with 30W. i've heard ATF works as well, but i've never used it.
  11. i use 10W30. just unscrew the top and pour. if you get too much, it will just leak out. won't cause harm
  12. this never gets old
  13. the screws are the balancing screws. the damper spring is found when you take off the domes (cylinders?) of the carbs. i don't know ANYTHING about flattops
  14. BTW guys, found out that MSA is going to be open on sunday after the car show for a couple hours (3-5)
  15. have you checked the damper oil? sounds like the needle is sticking. i'd spray some carb cleaner in there. maybe some WD40 (maybe?). also, check and see if the needles are straight EDIT are you going to the MSA show? i'm sure there's tons of people that can help you...
  16. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-G1200A&N=700+400304+115&autoview=sku it's not a sealed box, but in NHRA's rules it says that the box (like a firewall) can have holes. thanks!
  17. thanks a bunch! i've actually been able to find coverage for me on saturday, so i'll be picking it up myself. thanks for the offer, though!
  18. oh, and preferably someone i know
  19. ...that would mind doing me a favor? i believe that they are closed on Sunday and I need to buy stuff... would someone be able to pick some stuff up for me on saturday (if i pay, of course) and bring it to the show on sunday?
  20. ya, i recall the good ol' turbo corvairs. but they used a standard doundraught carbie. lookin at maybe turboing DGVs or DCOEs?
  21. from what i've heard, SUs and turbo are not compatible, since the SUs require a certain amount of vacuum to work properly
  22. if i had to guess off the top of my head i'd say head gasket or cracked block/head
