Rare hood fo sale on the Bay ^_^
looks like a stock hood with a "scoop" on top. and it doesn't look like it's attached very well. there's someone around here that has one on a V8Z.

Stock- Which is the quickest?
my take: there is a listing somehwere that R&T or C&D had that compared the 1/4 times of each car. starting with the 240Z as being the fastest and so on and so forth. that 1/4 wasn't beat until the 280ZXT. if i had the time to look i would find it and post it. as far as the FI vs carb argument? i love carbs. whether it's in my food or my engine bay, gotta have 'em. but FI, when properly tuned, will be superior. that's it. to argue that carbs are more efficient or have the potential for power is an erroneous claim. a good FI can do everything a good carb setup can do and them some. 'nuff said. EDIT: i suppose i should edit this so people don't think i'm SU bashing. i love my SUs and don't get me wrong. after studying this issue for a while it just becomes obvious.

Why would you want a 280?
what was meant was the G35 coupe. i HATE 280Zs! long live the 240z!!!!!!!!!!!!! just kiddin! i've never owned one, only 240Zs, and I DO feel that they are a truer sports car, but that doesn't mean that i don't think the 280Z was a good car. but i think i will always own 240s...

I HATE people on Ebay...
if the buyer does not want to cooperate, then he shouldn't get his money back. period. if he wants to play the game that he never got the item even though it was signed for, but he's unwilling to sign a note saying that, then he can take the loss. anyway, most shipping companies keep a digital copy of the signature given at delivery. they do that to protect themselves in instances like this. my advice is keep doing what you're doing. as long as you are thorough and don't leave any loose ends on your part, you're fully covered..

5 speed in a 4 speed question
i'm with carl on this one. the 3.36 is fine in my car. although i do want a bit lower gearing and DO plan on going with the 3.9 R200, my set up is great the way it is. the only reason i am swapping to the r200 is because i plan on doing autoX. although i think my ideal would be somewhere around 3.7

5 speed in a 4 speed question
true. i'm still running the OG 240Z r180 and i wouldn't mind some better accel. i'm switching out to the R200 once i gather all the pieces. however, with the nicely tuned stock L28 (F54 w/ N47) it still pulls like mad

5 speed in a 4 speed question
let's put it this way: you can use either clutch/pressure plate/clutch fork combo - from the 280ZX or from the 240, but all three pieces have to be a matching set. as for the shifter, it depends on what tranny you're using. i don't remember the tranny types by year, but for my tranny i used the stock 240Z shift lever and for all purposes it feels exactly the same as it did with the 4 speed

5 speed in a 4 speed question
^FWIW i used a '79 5-speed and used my old shift lever and it worked beautifully.

5 speed in a 4 speed question
zbane - sorry dave - take the driveshaft anyway. check and see which one looks to be in better shape. IIRC the 280zx driveshaft that i had was equipped with zerc (sp?) fittings, but unfortunately it was dinged, and that's a no-no

concave headlights
don't they make some that look similar with modern lighting technology? we're talking about the tri-bar ones, right?
-
5 speed in a 4 speed question
it will bolt right in. that's it. al you need is the tranny, clutch, pressure plate. said and done! oh, and also take out the speedo gear from your current tranny and put it in the 5 speed. but be careful! my tranny ate mine

Transplanting a BMW cross flow Aluminum radiator in my 280Z
QFT this sounds like a great idea!

L24 vs. L28
^ i agree that an L24 is good for street driving, but my Z with the STOCK l28 in it really adds to the driving experience. i plan on bolting on a square port head w/ a header in the near future, but the TQ/HP potential of the L28s is great.

Cherry 240
that's beautiful! but you would think that with all of that work they would recondition the underhood light i guess i'm just picking nits...
-
L24 vs. L28
do it! but save your OG engine & tranny

Cherry 240

Jdm Tach ? ? ?
i don't know about the tach. it looks like a good aftermarket one, though. the boost gauge is aftermarket. VDO mad the gauges for euro cars, not for japanese cars (correct me if i'm wrong)
