Your First car.
First car is my Zed. i've had it for just over 1 year now, and i now own it (no more debt to dad) and that was finalised when dad had the car ownership transfered to me on my birthday 2 weeks ago. Its a 1977 english 2 seater and has been prepared for the historic regularity class, which means it has almost every performance modification done except for roll cage and a differant motor (has the l28 although 3.1 litre bore coming next rebuild The car is in very reasonable condition considering these things came "out of the factory with rust" as my dad says, with a lot of anti rust to be found everywhere and a lot of rust work hacing been done by the previous owner. This is a great car that my dad and i use for motorsport and current plans are to put a cage in the car and to one day do a complete strip, rust cut and repaint. i don't ever plan on selling this car and ultimately i'd like to have a concourse winner (240hoke is a great inspiration), although it does mean i am going to need something a little more practicle to drive to Uni (college) next year. Tom.

R200 Diff
Okay, Thankyou very much guys!!!!! I think the best option for me given the advice of you guys is to take it to a diff place that was recommended to me and tell them what i use the car for and get them to set up the diff as it should be for the best performance for what i do (weekender, motokhanas and club/track racer). Cheers, Tom.

R200 Diff
Sure am, well actually dad and i are going for the speed event series event!!. we actually went up last weekend aswell with all fours and rotaries. we were supposed to go in the zed because this will be my first racing event at a track but we got 200m down the road, got onto overdrive down the hill and the car started to make a REALLY LOUD and unpleasant sound (which is how this whole diff question has arised), worked out it was the diff and so decided to take out my dads 93 tt supra but it only had road tyres so it wasnt that great a drive for dad but still a whole lot of fun for me having never been alowed to race it before!!!. anyways turns out when we were doing the 4 days of prep work getting the car ready dad jacked the rear left of the car on the roll bar mount and it bent the mount enough so that when on overdrive (engine braking) and the diff is pushed down slightly it was hitting the roll-bar and sending vibrations up through the whole car..... so, 4 days later and with the aid of a long bar to bend the mount back the car is now ready and dad and i are both anxiously awaiting saturday morning!!! Hope to see you at the event, will definately try and make some time to come over to see you guys and say "Hi", Tom.

R200 Diff
Hi Mr Camou, 1. the ratio is very high and the guy who installed the diff says that it is 4.375, so it stands to reason that it is a 4.375 ratio. 2. I dont know. like i said i read it (as it happens a thread on this site) and it stated that only nissan racing dept made 4.375. my assumption is that being a racing diff it would stand to reason that it is an LSD. 3. I dont know. again the man who installed the diff said it is a clutch LSD but i am unsure as the LSD feature doesnt seem to be working at all when the wheels are off the ground but that anytime i have ever had the wheels spinning it has always been both wheels. i am wondering if it is infact a clutch LSD and if it indeed does need a tune or if this is normal behaviour for this type of LSD system. 4. no idea. sorry i cant be of more help but this is all i know about the diff. Tom.

R200 Diff
Hi people, just have some querries about the diff in my car. i know it is a 4.375 R200 diff and i read that these only came out from the nissan racing dept. and not from the factory, so i think it would be fair to assume that the diff is an LSD. BUT, the diff is not currently working as an LSD. i also read that the 300zx turbo came with an R200 diff that had a clutch type LSD. Now my question, is the diff an LSD and if it is is it the clutch type in which the only thing i need to do to get it working again is to get it tuned or is it not an LSD?? Thankyou, Tom.

Where to get a light flywheel?
sent my car into the shop to get some suspicious vibration checked. turned out it was the flywheel was lose so that had to come and rather than take it to another shop to get it machined and balanced the people at the workshop (nissan orientated) had an r32 (or r34, i dont remember) flywheel hanging around from an upgrade. the one originally on there when we bought it was a light weight and from what i felt doesnt seem to be any differance in rev pick-up or drop time. dont know weights but seems to be fairly light. why dont you go down to a shop and see if they have anything you can have? they'll probably throw it in for free if you have any other work done there and then you have a new light weight flywheel without all the hassle of finding and running around from one shop to another. Tom.

I have $15k. Resto on zed or new car?
yeah alfadog is right, for what you are looking at the budget requirements for the zed are going to be a lot higher than 15k, besides for what you're leaning to i'd recommend a 2 seater for the more sporty feel. that or just a 180, personally i believe you'll get a better 180 for what you're trying to achieve for 15k then you could get from a zed. Tom.

Wheels that will fit Zeds
i was under the impression you needed 3 piece to have wheels that fit for the zed that havn't been custom designed? only wheels i'd go ANYWHERE near for a zed on that site would be the stixx euro, the others just do not look like they would work on a zed. Tom.

New Key Set
ok, thanks for the help, i guess i'll have to keep looking. i kinda guessed that the keys wern't original when the locksmith told me it was a hyundai key!! just another altered part like the rest i've found so far, annoying but inevitable with the previous owner being what he is, but we wont go there. thanks anyway, Tom.

New Key Set
hi everyone, i am in the process at the moment of getting another set of keys made for my dad, only problem is no one seems to sell the key for the aerial. Its the standard aerial (as far as i am aware) on a '77 english 260z. does anybody know where i should be able to get one? i am in perth. Thankyou, Tom.

Whats a 5/71 Body Shell Worth?
well i tell you if you were in perth with a shell with no rust for sale for 500 i'd take it today. i suggest you look at the cost of doing the repairs for rust and then judge accordingly. Tom.

Fast Fours Coverage
i saw the photos and they have the full range in there but i presume you're probably right about the story concentrating on the 4's, it being a 4's magazine but there are pics of 240's , 260's, 280's, 300's 510's and others (i think). looked like a good article. Tom.

PS: GEEEEES, i still cant believe how you could bring yourself to do such a thing. convertible looks ok, but the dash and rear lights look much to out of place for my liking.

Fix for Slow Wipers
yes the motor looks very similar but i am still trying to find the source of the problem as to why the wipers wipe the whole windscreen but come up off the bottom when they park. Tom.
