260z in Japan?
Ok I own a 1976 260z 2 seater that originally had the flat-top SU carbs - (the car was restored to original when I purchased it - however rust came back and it is under going a second rebuild with some mods at the same time). Anyway I never had any issues that I recall - however my car was not fitted with air-con. Can someone confirm this is one of the reason for the introduction of the vented bonnet? I know that the NZ spec cars never had the vented bonnet but some of the Australian cars did - I can only assume this is due to the fact that it get hotter in Australia than NZ so this issue occured in AU. Also NZ does not, and still does not have any emissions standards or tests (well not 100% ture as of Oct 2006 a a five second visible smoke check will be introduced for vehicles as part of warrant of fitness (WoF) and certificate of fitness (CoF) inspections. We have these WoF or CoF, depends on the type and size of the vechile but generally a WoF is for Car/Motorbike/Tailer and CoF is for a truck, every 6 months (unless the vechile is new or least than 5 years old then the test is carried out once a year)...so that is the emissions test we have - if it has visible smoke during a 5 second rev/run then it fails all at the decression of the tester) I was also told by an ex Nissan Japan employee that the Fairlady 260Z was recalled had there engines replace and chassis re stamped.

Yahoo japans CLEANEST.
Good choice Lachlan so this type of car will replace the KGC110 when it goes (or has it gone ) Now here is a real ZG starting bids at 3,800,000 yen $32,000 USD I guess it would go for a lot more than that. http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h44020000

those of you with ZG flares
Not quite - 8.5" -6 offset = 4.5" backspace your calcuations are correct for the rears. I have just the same sizing on my zed but in 16" rims.

Single Filter box for trip webers ??
Also a cheaper option - well for us downunder that is (TWM prices + shipping it just too much) is this http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_info.php?products_id=143 should have one in the new year (not sure if it will work on the LHD as it does not look like it tappers like the TWM towards the back near the brake booster) and the one from Tweakit is larger

Why there is a third screw hole in the valve covers?
double post sorry about that.

Why there is a third screw hole in the valve covers?
These engines were not only installed in the Zed remember - don't forget they were also used in the RHD, Skylines/240K/240C/260C/280C/Laurels/Patrols just to name a few. Not all of these would have rod operated accelerators so maybe the other hole was used for a cable operated accelerator on a RHD car - most all share the same rocker cover. Most of the what some consider rare big NISSAN valve/rocker covers were from these other models usually the 1980+ models. The latest model I have seen with a L6 installed was a Laurel C31 1984.

4.11 rear end, is it the right one???
I got my R200 longnose 4.11 from a JDM R30 Skyline (12mm version) - did swap for a 3.54 from a Z31, the guy I swapped with is going V8 so the 3.54 was better suited for this application. There were lots of JDM cars that have both R180 and R200 in the 3.9 and 4.11 ratio's. I have not checked the S12 R180 diff I have but I believe it will be a 4.11 (and it is a CV R180 too boot)

FS: 1973 Nissan Skyline GT-R Replica (Datsun 240K)
Lachlan - please to hear about the new job in Melbourne I moved to Melbourne for 2 years and now back in Auckland - I kept my zed during that time at home in Auckland (well in the brothers panel shop - were still sits today). My advice is this (having sold HS30-00016 in the past for extra $$ for a deposit on my first house....still kicking myself from time to time about that one - if I still owned it I still would not have the $$ to restore it but I would still have it) if you can affort to keep it then do so and only part with it when you can get a real KPGC110 Even if you do have enough $$ to purchase a real KPGC110 then you will still need a replica for track days Put the car in storage for the mean time - get settled in Melbourne then make the call then.
-
Have you guy seen this site ?
Yes it would be great if the club cd included the RHD export and JDM parts catalogs (so of the export and JDM part numbers are the same, I have not checked with the LHD parts catalog but I am sure some will be the same)

Nice 240Z in online magazine
I guess you could say so - what with all the 17", 18" plus that are now on cars or getting fitted to car. I have almost the same wheels but 16x8.5 fronts and 16x9.5 rears (RS Watanabes) I wanted to stick with 15" but in this part of the world you just can't get rubber wide enough - 225/50/15 is it and I wanted to run 15x9 or 15x10. Great looking car - and depends on who is looking at the car some might say the whole package is oldschool - think about the for just one minute if you are say 18 years old even that engine is very oldschool, non cross flow, non DOHC, turbo - the engine would be older than you However for us 30+ who were kids/teenagers when the zeds were still new this is a mix of the old and newish. Enough said for now You have done a fantastic job and all from your garage. If they are the normal RS Watanabe offsets will be as follows. 16x9 -13 offset 16x9.5 -19 offset

OEM G-nose spotted on S.F. craigslist
yep you can only get the lower section from Nissan in the USA see here http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=98520-N3256&Category_Code=s30_nismo_240z-g-nose and you can pay $1500 USD for just this lower part. Then you could get the best replica that is currently made from this place in Japan http://home.att.ne.jp/sky/FairladyZ/ZG/Nosemain.htm and at 320,000 yen that is approx $2600 + shipping and that does not include light covers and hinger so add another $600-800 USD so with the shipping you are talking more than $3500 USD - a bargin for real Nissan stuff really.

240z in sydney
Don't get confussed with the LHD Series I and the cars that came to our part of the world - I have seen a 240z here in NZ with a build number in the early 800's with a hand throttle. I assume Nissan was using up the parts in a transition phase. RHD production dates below so that would make a Series 1 in our RHD cars upto at least May 71 (were as in the US the series 1 were long gone by then). When I had HS30-00016 it had seat belts with a 70's date on them + dates were around this early/mid 70's and this was the HS30-00016 (still had plug leads with 1970 on them too) 240z=HS30(A)(U)(Q) Applied Date Oct69-May71=00003-00500 Jan71-Aug71=00501-01500

My Skyline finally arrived......
So Alan are you looking at fitting those wide 14x11? watanabes you have to this for the period look? Can you still get tyres for those rims in the UK? It would be a dream to have a KPGC10 or a true PS30 (maybe the KPGC10 would be the way to go that way if I needed to take the kids I could given I already have a RS30 for fun). Alan here is question for you (not sure if it has been asked before so please excuse me if it has) I was told (again wanting to get the correct information) that the P in these models chassis code was not only to indicate the fitment of the S20 engine but also the connection between this engine and the Price GR8 which it was based on. So the P was homage to the Price engine team. Cheers Mike

1978 Datsun Farilady 280Z 2 Seater (S130) Oz Ebay
You know in my Nissan S30 parts catalog there (RHD export version) there is talk of a U in the model code. However this does not equal USA but Right Hand Drive. This taken from the book - so this might also be the same for the S130 models (Nissan on some models did follow some kind of standard) G = 2+2/long wheelbase (this is the case on other Nissan model also) if Blank = 2 seater R or H = Engine Type (talking about RHD Export S30 models hear) H = L24 R = L26 S30 = Car model A = Auto if Blank = Manual U = Right Hand Drive Q or M Where Q = Europe M = Australia Blank = Other RHD country/spec So if they followed the same pattern for the S130 then U might also = RHD. Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

1978 Datsun Farilady 280Z 2 Seater (S130) Oz Ebay
In Japan the first ie 78/79 (and like this one early build numbers) were marketed as Fairlady 280z (even though most of us think/know them as a ZX, ie S130 body style) I can't believe you guys in Australia did not get these models (ie 2 seater) - what was Nissan thinking not bringing these in themselves, we got a few of these NZ new and most are like this one JDM imports during the 80's/early 90's. I once owned one as a daily driver - like many Zed I have owned over the years - should never have sold it.

Any Z for sale? right hand drive
There are few that come up for sale on ebay.com.au = Australia and RHD or check www.carsales.com.au as there is usually a few on the also. Not sure on the shipping or import/export.

NOS Body shell?
Here in NZ we don't have a VIN ID on the dash of any S30 or Datsun or any car that I know of for that matter. It is the Stamped Chassis number (ie the number on the firewall, or Frame number if a motorbike) that is the key for licensing a vehicle for the road.
-
NOS Body shell?
I heard a rumor here in NZ that you could still get NOS KP510 (ie 2 door 510) body shells ex Japan landed in NZ for $8500 NZD - funny money to the rest of the world but that would be $5250 USD. I have not asked Nissan if this is true or not. Never know might be a S30 shell there too or a KGC10 shell - I would keen on that
