A Theory - RHD HS30 Model Standard Exterior Rear View Mirror Fitment
240 in OZ you have a PM. I used to own HS30-00016 here in New Zealand, I sold it and it moved to OZ that is all I know - but in your first post you talked about HS30-0016 in the UK, if you can fill in the blanks since I sold the car and how it got to the UK that would be great. Either that or there are 2 x HS30-00016 out there? I know there is a HLS30-00016 in the US. EDIT - here is pic of my 77 (manufacture between 08-76 and 08-77) RS30-015xxx as it was imported in to NZ in 1978 (I believe as one of the many arm forces imports of the 70's) via .....I will come back on that one I will need to look up the old registration papers (new ones don't show what country they were imported from). In the last pic you can see the fender mirror of a 72 240z which I think might a NZ new car. These photos were taken at a concourse event in the mid to late 1980's and as you can see my car at the time was like new (photos from the perious owner before he killed the car on the track ) EDIT #2: The car was import from NAURU in April 1978 and it had 10,000km's on the clock.

L-series Engine
I must be very mis-informed (I guess you get that when your are at the bottom of the world) I only just heard of the "Infiniti" and I thought it was just one type of car not a line of cars? The US Market is just too confussing for the rest of us that have Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Daewoo, KIA but through in US bandings like Infiniti, Lexus (yes we get them here, sometimes the same car as a Toyota), Acura etc How many other countries had a big ad campain when moving from Datsun to Nissan? Sorry for the off topic stuff above. Re Nissan engines Does anyone know about the LZ Twin Cam heads that Nissan fitted to the L4 blocks for race/rallies (not to be confussed with the Z Series engines that some call a LZ, that is just wrong yes the Z series 4 cylinders were the next gen of the L4 with NAPS crossflow heads but should never ever be called a LZ) and did this LZ TC head + the S20 infulence the FJ20/FJ24 engines? Also would any one know were I could find one or have an idea on the cost of a LZ TC head?

l28 pistons 120thou(3mm) over??
See http://www.escort-us.com/piston/nissan_c.html#3 I am thinking the same for one of my spare engine (installing a stock L28 to get the car back on the road + to sort out my MegaSquirt setup) then build up a good 3.0l using L28 rods and crank with 89mm pistons like the ones they have listed (or maybe even a good 2.9) spending more time and $$ on the head

Stainless steel header??
Hi Lachlan, no they did not come just by themselves as the shop I ordered them through also had a few other parts coming in on the same shipment. The Fujitsubo system for the L6 Series has 45mm primaries (1 3/4") they are a 3-2 system. The two is 50.8mm (2"). I also got the rest of the system just before xmas (again stainless steel) twin from front to back and yes they make the same setup for the C110 ....just checked only listed for S30, C10 Header Part number is 510-15035. For the rest of the system for a HS30/S30 the part number is 750-15411 and for the 2+2 GHS30/GS30 the part number is 750-15412. Shipping weight of the header is 9kg and for the rest of the system (for 240z/260z 2 seater) 16kg Pricing in YEN = 89,250 + shipping (these are just for the header the rest of the system was in the order of 85,000 YEN) So that would be around $1000 + shipping AUD for the header (50.8mm) so I would say maybe $1200 AUD all up (not a small box that they come in). I did price up getting some custom made Stainless Steel headers locally and was quoted about the same as what I landed the Fujitsubo header for. Lachlan is there a performance import shop near you that brings in stuff from Japan for the newer JDM cars (ie 200sx, Skylines, Supra, RX7....for the drifting guys etc) they more than likely import Fujitsubo systems for these newer cars and could help you get the L6 Series header also (and including it in there next shipment - however it takes 4-6 weeks for the header to be made as they don't keep the L6 headers in stock just made to order) Cheers Mike

Stainless steel header??
Okay, when into my brothers shop and had a good look at the 240z with these style headers already installed (also made me climb back into the roof to check the measurements I took the other day - I did not measure the width from the head flange correctly - the first measurement was incorrectly taken on a downward angle = making it too long. So attached is the corrected measurements) One the 240z there is 14cm between the firewall and the back of the #6 runner. There is also 14cm between the #3 and the engine mount (the outside of the metal bracket that connects to the block and then to the rubber mount). I had a good look at were I think the LHD steering rod would go and if it is anything like the RHD cars (that the first coupling is very close to the firewall and just a little wider than the rail - then runs just under the engine mount to the rack) then I would say this header should work on a LHD car Also the #6 runner runs very close to the TC rod mounting point with only a few mm clearance - from this end running upto the #6 exhaust port the runner does tapper towards the block slightly. Maybe it would be good to a google/look at Japanese sites to see if any of the LHD zed there are using this type of header (a number of LHD seem to get imported into Japan for some reason)

Stainless steel header??
I think the other header I spotted on the zed the other day is the Nissan race header copy (not stainless like they were originally - hell the Fujitsubo I have looks the same as the Nissan option you never know they might have been the supplier to Nissan all those years ago - if you might be right they might work - I will visit my brothers shop today to see if the customers Zed is still there that has this type of header installed and take some measurements for you all (don't have a digital camera with me so can't get any pics - sorry)

fairladyZ badges
Using translation software on this site it states the FairladyZ badge is and I quote from the translation software "The side & the Rr emblem (the FairladyZ) it is plastic make die-cast make, Width approximately 290 mm height approximately 50 mm" So I read that as these are plastic also does not look like metal. Does anyone know if the ones Courtesy Nissan have listed are metal?

Stainless steel header??
Okay took some measurement before I placed the header in the roof for storage (until the car is ready for them to be installed). Also I was lucky enough to see a simular head installed in a 240z the other day (just not a stainless version, I will visit the shop again today and take some measuments from this car) I have a feeling that there might be issues as the headers are wide. a 1 foot wide. Anyway here are pics with measurements.

Stainless steel header??
I would do this for you guys - but my car still does not have the suspension or engine in so I can't test fit (and about 6 month off that stage). However as the header is out I could take measurements now and then you can work with these to see if they will work with a LHD car? I will take a look tonight and post all the info (will try and include a pic showing were the measurements were taken/between etc)

Stainless steel header??
I purchased the Fujitsubo system - stainless steel. However my zed is a RHD so I don't know if they will work with a LHD car. See the following thread. http://classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19104&highlight=fujitsubo

Yes I know I don't have a Z
Just checked our club database - we have recorded the following cars in NZ (not sure how many are still road legal or still around....if the rust has got to them or just got wrecked etc) 240z = 143 (with 1 recorded as stolen by the member at the time and 5 non stock type engine ie V8 or turboed, again old data) 260z 2 seater = 4 (one recorded as a V8 conversion) 260z (unknown if 2+2 or 2 seater) = 34 260z 2+2 = 58 (one recorded as a V8 conversion) 280z 2 seater (yes LHD imports) = 7 280z 2+2 (again LHD) = 2 280zx 2+2 = 141 280zx 2 seater = 8 280zx (unknown if 2+2 or 2 seater) = 48 280zx targa top = 3 280zx turbo = 1 300ZR = 1 300zx (unknown if 2+2 or 2 seater) = 12 300zx 2 seater = 2 300zx 2+2 = 20 Fairlady Z 2+2 = 2 Fairlady Z 2 seater = 1 Other Z or ZX not recorded in the Database correct = 36 350z = 2 (a lot more in the country just the ones in the old database) Total Zed or ZX = 523 So not many really only 141 240z - so lets say 40% are gone never to return = 84. So series I in RHD = 00003-00500 (I know of one that has gone to OZ = my old car 00016, and of 240znz 300 and something, + I know of 2 others my brother has had in his panel shop) so lets say there are a total of 10 of these in NZ so that leaves 6. So 7% of the 240z might be series I not bad I would say. If however all 240z are still around (I know of at least 5 that have been wrecked/written off) that is more like 4% still not bad odds I would say. Cheers Mike

Yes I know I don't have a Z
Wow more from DOCNZ make it here - welcome Damon, you already know some of us Looking for a Series I - mint, well in NZ you will need somewhere between $15K NZD to $20K anything less will need work and $$ spent. Or you might need to do this on a $15-20K car if someone things it mint when is it not :stupid:

LZ22S Pistons
If you have a copy of "How to Hotrod and Race Your Datsun" there is a section in the book that explains the rod/stroke ratio and how changing this alters piston speed at different points in the stroke. I can't recall which but I think increasing the rod length increases the piston speed at the top and bottom of the stroke. Were as a short rod will (not only increase the angle/pressure on the side of piston) but will slow the piston down in the top and bottom of the stroke but increase the speed in the midle of the stroke = usually equals more torque. With the increase of piston speed at the top it makes getting the valve timing correct and also results in usually a small duration. So this is why a 3.1 stroker (LD28 crank/L24 Rods = 1.60 rod/stroke ratio) produce so much torque and why you can have high duration cams. The L24 engine has a 1.80 Rod/Stroke ratio and these are said to rev better than the L26/L28 with their 1.65 ratio. So by using the L28 crank with a L24 rod you get a 1.68 (closer to the ideal 1.75 for a short stroke engine which the L Series are ie bore is bigger than the stroke or over square? I think that is right - I am not a mechanic just a computer guy who is keen to learn more about Zed/Engine = not a computer ) I hope this info is of some use and if I have any of this incorrect please correct me so I can learn more

Fujitsubo Twin System
I think you might be right Ben, I don't think it would work on the LHD cars, once I put the car back together I will take some measurement for just in case (you never know). The Fujitsubo is like the Spirit in that it is stainless steel also just the flanges are not SS.

Fujitsubo Twin System
Well the header arrived the other day - now I can't wait for the rest of the system and to complete my car so I can hear the note it will produce. Here is the picture of my header (not one from another site that I found before I placed the order)

Some pics of interest
NZ has a few 240KGT (only AUS imports were badged as GL) all NZ new were GT's, also some made there way here via Singapore and the like by return servicemen. That was also how a lot of Japanese sports of that 70's era got to NZ (so some do have the mirrors on the fenders/guards, Dad imported a 74 Mitsi GTO GS-R from Singapore that he purchased new when we were living there)

Real FIA race car #26 on ebay !!
Well look's like what happened to my Zed....the perious owner back in the late 80's rolled it after falling of the track and hitting the sandpit. Given the work that was done rebuilding my car back then (I am now doing its second rebuild rust this time not rollover damage) the car could have been saved (with the right $$ but I guess complete cars would have been cheaper than a rebuild - however they were not that easy to come by in New Zealand). Given pics of my car are on another site I will post the before-rollover, after-rollover, rebuild and how it turned out (ie what I purchased, however I knew the history of the car before purchasing it and my brother/panelbeater had a good look over it and the work was done correctly so no difference to a stock body just new/secondhand panels - bonnet was the only panel not replaced but I now have NOS coming from Japan as it had a bit of bog/bondo or whatever you call it locally - all other panels were good. The second hand guards/fenders that were installed needed some rust repairs but I did start the second restore/rebuild after 15-18 years after the first - and it is a 1977 car) So my point - they did not need to rebody the car it could have been rebuilt. But given this happened in 72 bodies were easier to get/import

JDM aftermarket and OEM parts
Slightly of topic - but re the translation. I love they way Kameari (in Japanese characters 亀有) translates to "Turtle possession". AlanT if I got this wrong please correct me as I would like to ensure I do have it correct (I use these characters while doing research/searches - along with a few others I have picked up over the past year)

I thought the look would go nicely with my Watanabe's, G-Nose and flares so I did can't wait to see them in the flesh

Datsun pickup
There are a "truck load" of these little utes here in NZ, most in sheds getting rebuild etc - you can still buy them new in South Africa. See Nissan South Africa Website select vechiles and pick 1400 Bakkie from the drop down list. The ones here were sold throughtout the late 70's until mid 80's originally fitted with the A12 (aka Datsun B110, B210 (honeybee),B310 engines) however these days most are getting repowered with all different engines. Common is the Mazda 13B, Nissan CA18DET, FJ20, FJ20ET, SR20DE or SR20DET. I know of one locally that is getting a Lexus 4.0 V8 fitted (Nissan V8 was just too wide to fit without major work - but even with the Lexus V8 the steering box is going to be replaced with a rack to make more room) Would love one, but I have enough cars for now (reads wife would kill me) - a new one from SA would be good.

280ZX vs 280Z vs 350Z
Having owned 2x240z, 1x260z(current car and first z I purchased) and 1x280zx - all 2 seaters I might add. Like Bruce my personal opinion is the 2+2 just don't look right, the roof is too high and long. I would own a 280zx 2 seater again if I could find a nice clean one (very hard to find here in NZ and for a few $$ more I could get a 240z or 260z). The Z line ended with the 280z ie S30 body after that it was the ZX S130 (a different body) I guess some of the 911 people might not call the modern 911 a 911 but a 996 (or whatever model it is - very confusing those German rear engine things). Hell here in NZ Nissan sold a 910 badged as a 200zxe nothing like the Z line at all. So what in a badge? To me it is he body style that sets the Zed apart. Me I love the S30 be it a 240z, 260z or US spec 280z (all have to be 2 seaters and the US bumpers removed - I guess we were lucky here in NZ we never got those ugly look'n bumpers on our market cars). Re the 350z = Z33 chassis = one digit up from Z32 = not part of the S30 line at all = not a z but a zx IMHO = Zed died after the last S30 rolled of the production line, after that they are all ZX....again just my opinion. I have driven a 350z and if I had the coin and was looking for a modern 2 seater sport car then I would own one. However I don't like auto this and electronic that, all this add weight and over complicates what I want from a sports car (daily driver yes, sport car no). I know they are safer with ABS, airbag but I don't buy a car to crash. So with that said if I did have the coin for a 350z I still would not purchase one (not my style of car) I would take a 240z/260z and spend the $$ on making it mine own....hang on that is what I am doing Love cars but love the Z (S30 the most = affordable fun = the reason Nissan (or Datsun as the export market was badged back then) built the car in the first place)...if was looking for a 2+2 it would not be a Zed may be a 240k/Skyline or the RA23/TA23 Toyota Celica GT hatchback of the same period in the 70's.
