okay, i have one. I have the engine almost entirely dismantled but the crank shaft. I got of all of the bearing caps, yet i have one left, the last one. It is in there really tight. I have the "how to rebuild your datsun engine" book, so I tried to follow his directions: putting a screw into the screw hole and prying it with a crow bar using a 2x4 as the fulcrum, got nothing. I know you can buy a tool from nissan for this, i have read it is expensive, so I need some other options. Please bless me with your knowledge

Here is a picture of what one looks like on a car. I got it from Ninja240's gallery on HybridZ. By the way the gallery on HybridZ is really lame. Although I wouldn't put one on my car, I guess it is a novel idea.
  7. Has anybody actually ever set up the cigarette lighter rigging? Its a clever idea
  8. It was their fault that they sent you the wrong part. Although I am going to have to say I do agree with dogma. Yes they made a mistake and sent you the wrong part, but you being just as bad as them did not notice until 6 months later. I do not want to make a big fuss with this, you do deserve credit for the item, but I feel you are at fault along with MSA
  9. You can get a new cd head unit that reads cd's in MP3 format (data format I mean). When you burn the cd in data format you can fit about 700mbs of music on one cd (depending on your cd-r), which is a whole lot of music. Why change to a disc that can only hold 300mb when you can do this with 700mb?
  10. Carl, many times have I heard you say that there is no paint under the tar paper, although after removal somethings have seemed to beg to differ. I have been wondering about this for a while. After I got rid of the tar paper, there was still a creme colored coating over the metal. At first it just appeared to be the top of the metal, although one can take a screwdriver or something similar and scratch it reveling a silver beneath it. I noticed this when I was doing the drivers side floor and the transmission tunnel. If this is not paint, is it just a coating over the metal or what?
  11. sorry for my hardware ignorance, but what exactly is a needle scaler? Once I had applied the dry ice I could peel the mat back with my finger, I just needed a screw driver. I would be afraid an air chisel would dent the metal. I remember reading in a thread a while ago, Escanlon said about using an air chisel for tar paper "is like killing a fly with a machine gun" or something like that
  12. First Gen, I cannot tell if you are using sarcasm or not, but just for the record Mr. Camo was making a funny
  13. that seems like a lot of car for $250. If I had the space for it I would jump on that deal. The interior apears decent too.

I hate putting people down like this, but I doubt you will be able to find a FSM.pdf file. Seeing as the manuals, wether it is an original or reprint will cost you $50+. Even if you buy the FSM on cd it will still run you like $70. I don't forsee anybody posting a link to the manual sorry. Good luck on your earch; although if you do come across one please post
  15. I have the book, although I haven't really gotten to use it much, I have other more important aspects to complete first. If you like "How to Restore your Z" and "How to rebuild your datsun engine" then you will definately like this one. The format and setup is very similar to the other 2 books, just different content

Be happy you see any Z's at all, I have never seen a 240 in over 3 years other than the ones I had to drive like 1 hour and a half to look at, for possible purchase. Once ever few months I might see a 280 if I'm lucky.

A short while ago there a member named marixmus was comtemplating the same thing you are. Surprisingly now that I check he was also tryng to decide between a blue and silver. Just from one color alone, picking the shade of that color is a very tough decision in itself. In this thread there are some spectacular photos of blue Zs. I suggest you check this thread out, it should help you in your decision making. Good luck Marximus' Thread
  18. I have just began to chime in on this thread, but with the direction it was going I decided I needed to comment. I do not mean to shift this thread at Carl, but this is a perfect case a point of the club. I have seen people ask really lame questions showing there extreme laziness (won't mention any names) and Carl showing how he feels, it is understandable. Although about 2 weeks ago I posted a simple question in the shout box, Carl answered. But then he decided to take a break from whatever he was doing and write me a full length PM disccussing the solution to my problem, and I really appreciated it. That is what these clubs are for helping others. I kind of lost my focus on this thread but you guys get the point.

greatwhite, I am sorry, I would have to disagree with out. It is just my opinion, but I think the low style roof line looks sleek and flowing. I like the low roof design. Although I do agree that the entire car should not be so low to the ground.

I can't wait to read. So when it is available to the Z community will it be in book form or what? Sounds like you are doing a total bang up job!
  21. Like someone previously stated, if you plop a V8 in it will just be reinforcing what the muscle heads were saying. To make your car show thtme up you must put american metal in it, I'm not sure if that would be the correct way to beat them. But hey, it is your car and you can do whatever you damn well please with it, and nobody should tell you otherwise.

Many people do not use the brackets for fear of 30 year old metal breaking. Instead of using after market brackets, when pulling my L24 I just used hardened screws with a few heavy duty washers. It worked very well for me, I had no problems

Wow, what an awesome car to choose for such a project. I would have thought a conversion to biodeisel would have had more modifications necessary. Very cool About the hydrogen power: Hydrogen power may require engery to produce the hydrogen, but i remember reading in an article that the products of hydrogen combustion are much less harmful to the environment then fossil fuels; to help out with global warming
