Information about a very rare S30?
UPDATE Restoration is going well if not a little slow. Trying to source parts. Seems to be a bit of a nightmare over here. Think I must have annoyed Alan (HS30-H) as I was unable to contact for a while, now no reply. A real shame!

Information about a very rare S30?
We would like to restore it to an as standard state as much as possible. I know that this will be very much an ongoing project though (especially due to limited restoration funds!). Do you have links to the best parts sites? Also one thing I would just like to touch (but not dwell) on is value - It would be good to know an approximate value? (if not a bit irrelevant as we have not intentions of selling the car)

Information about a very rare S30?
Yeah when I Grandad bought it it was metalic silver. I have loads of questions but one curious quik one. Did they add material to the wings for shaping (like they did to e-types). Where my dad has been removing the horrible paint that was put on he has found filler like leading material (he has experienced this from e-type Jags). Also the wing mirrors were on the car when my Grandad bought it and it doesn't appear to have holes or trace of holes in the wings where std one would have been???

Roger that is our car in the magazine and yes it is a typo. The two tone paint job was done by someone after my grandad received some bad advice about the car. It has now been removed.

Information about a very rare S30?
Ok I managed to pop round to my parents house on my luchbreak and found out that the guy who my Grandad bought it from was in fact English but working in Japan and he'd bought it from his boss (the Japanese shipping magnate mentioned in the magazine article). It is definately a 4 speed gearbox, it's got rubber strips on the corners of the bumper. I also managed to take these photos. Apologies for the quality but it was only on my phone.

Information about a very rare S30?
Alan, thanks for the info - very interesting and very helpful. You obviously know your Z's! Quote: "Hopefully we can help you to narrow down more details about the car, but for that we need to ask more questions. Pics would be very useful ( and should help to differentiate between the Z and Z-L models fairly quickly )" I can provide pics no problem (I will make some available over the next few days) - the car is however, not in A1 condition and is currently being restored by my father. It was owned before that by my Grandfather who bought it from a shipping magnete in Japan (c1983), he rarely drove it and for much of it's life had it garaged. The decay in these last few years has become quite rapid. I would like to find out as much information about the car as possible. To be honest it's just nice to hear the car really exists as in the past when I or my family have tried to find out information we have just been fobbed off - Even Nissan UK were unhelpfull. What is the best way to determine if it is a Z or a Z-L. I have a feeling it is a Z as the car has steel rims and I think (but I'll check) only a four speed box. It does however, have the parking lights and a Webasto Sunroof. Thank you also for correcting me about the correct name of the car - Again this goes back to my earlier comment about proving the cars' existance. I don't actually think of it as a 240Z this was just the easiest way of describing it. Do you have any idea of how many there are over here (in the UK)? The car was featured in a "Classic Cars" magazine article (April 1992), it mentioned that it was one of two or pehaps three cars brought into the country. Again many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. Dylan

Information about a very rare S30?
I am trying to find out information about a family owned car. It is a Datsun 200Z Fairlady. The car has a 240Z body (S30) but the L20 1998cc engine. It was built between 1969-1970 and sold in Japan. VIN/Chassis/Frame No:_ _S30 01712 - Note the lack of enigine identifying letter before the S number (they put a H for the L24 engine and and R for the later L26 engine). So by decoding the Vin number (using information provided by Nissan UK) the car is calssified as Coupe, Right hand drive, S30 (240Z), Number 1712. Engine No:L20 143383. If anyone can provide any information/correct any of the above I would be very greatful.
