  1. haha well it still gets pretty cold over here.. but yeah.. not winnipeg style.. we still cheer when we get snow.. haha but yeah My garage isnt heated.. but I was looking at getting one of those propane units pretty soon so it would be if i was going to be doing a major project
  2. yeah ok i think what im going to do is basicly offer him a few bucks.. ill try working up to about 300. and see what hapends its at a shop and the guy no longer works there.. and the ower seemed to peek his ears when i asked about it..which probably means he wants it gone but the guy doesnt have a garage to put it in.. so hopefully he'll be somewhat desprate.. and worst case I sell it and make my 3 bills back which im sure shouldbt be too much problem.. so should take most of the risk out of it for me
  3. yeah taking what you think it will cost and doubling it is probably a pretty good advice.. ok guys.. you got me thinking.. I dont think he even knows how bad it is.. like i said it looks good, but when you take a look underneath and the rails broken and $^!# you know it needs major work.. maybe ill offer him a bill just too see what he says tell him about the rails etc.. and im sure 100 bucks is atleast worth it as a parts car.. as for "rolling resto" I have tried that in the past.. and you can just never get it as good as you want it.. with this project i want to take it down to hte frame and work my way up and do it the right way.. I dont want something that im going to be daily driving.. I want to get something this summer and HOPEFULLY have it complete by next summer.. dont really know if thats realistic.. but you know
  4. thanks for the pricing ED that sounds about right to me.. that seems fair.. and Bam.. i hear you.. i have been thinking that aswell.. see I have never done a full resto before and i want to give it a try.. Ive never done this much metal work before.. im worried i may be getting in over my head.. I dont mind spending lots of time.. moneys not too big of an issue either (not that i have any:cry:) its more just for the project i guess.. see i would like to get something that i dont need to replace the rails.. but it seems like with these cars you pretyt much always do.. unless your shelling out thousands.. then im just buying someone else's project.. and like i said.. its more about me building something and learning as much as i can than just having a nice car..
  5. ok well today i found the car i wanted since i was 18.. 72 240.. sitting in a lot.. with 2 flat tires no motor and the thing filled with old parts from the shop it was sitting at.. so yeah this thing is trashed.. from the outside it actually looks really good.. the dash was almost mint.. but the seats and the rest of the interior where ****ed.. so look at the important part.. the underside and rails.. well the rails are shot i think.. and one spot it was broken.. the floor pans where very soft and rusty.. so yeah from afar it looks pretty good shape (for a junker that is) anyway i asked the guy at the shop about it and i guess it was an old employes and didnt know what he wanted for it.. he asked what i wanted to offer but i didnt know what i should, wanted to do some research first.. anyway.. what would be a safe offer? i mean.. it needs a complete resto.. i really dont want to pay much for it.. im sure there is more out there with less rust so maybe should i just move on? even if i should look for a better doner this thing would probably be worth while to get for parts as the bodys in good shape.. anyway to make a short story long what should i pay... and what would be too much to even consider? thanks for any advice guys
  6. i had a problem similar to that with my old carolla, I would agree with the ignition, but try the fuel filter.. its quick and cheap, and in most case's you could probably use another one anyway.
  7. thats actualy what i was thinking, But just driving around and seing your oil presure at low just is kind of scary...thanx for the advice
  8. anyway, when its cold the oil seems great, but as it warms up it drops.. and its quite low when its at op temp.. I have no idea what this is. thanx
  9. I agree with the blue and white stripes... its good on the vipers, but not for an Old skool Z.. now black with those white strips, thats a diffrent story
  10. thanks alot... I figured that something like a wire brush would damage it the metal.. My father has a friend that does body work and i think he might have the tools for blasting.. I didnt even think of that as an option.. as for the clear coat you are right, in spots its just the clear coat, but in others its right down to the metal.. thanx again man.
  11. I want to keep the original rims on my 82' but the rims have got really corroded over time. I know that the metal is a softer metal and I don’t want to eat right through them with a big wire brush… What is the answer? Would a wire brush do ok? As well, if I was to take off the first layer is there a product I should use to add a finish to the? thanx

Yeah rally racing is the only kind of car racing I really like. Never cared for NASCAR, not enough excitement. I live on the west coast of Canada, Vancouver island. And I heard rumors of them bring a race to a mountain range about 30 mins from my house. So if they go with it I am building a care for sure. But I probably wouldn’t use a Z, I am going with an older carolla, like early 80s. I had a 1980 corolla once and it was basically a rally car stock. Sweet cars

there is this thing you can get, people use them for large car sterios and it stores X amount of power in the tube. Its for the cars with lots of power going to there subs. So when they dont have one each time the bass hits the lights dim. This might help your problem. sorry I cant remember what there called but i am sure if you went to any pro audio shop they would know what i mean.

Well I will start off by saying I am not a mechanic but I don’t think the coil would have anything to do with it. The coil just puts out power to the Distributor. And for your sake I hope you don’t have to put new bulbs in, I wanted blue dash lights on my 82' and now that was a pain. Had to take the whole dash off and wiggle around feeling for the wholes to put the bulbs in. Good luck
  15. sounds good. I was hoping actualy because I wanted the black dash. Just to match the paint i am going to paint it. Thanks for the info. PS is there any good placed to get more info on them. One thing, from what i have read they only came out with a 4 speed, and the 5 speed didnt come out till the 280z's. Is this true? thanx
