    Looks good
  2. Wish to join but I didn't read the post till 8am
  3. Do you have picture of a dash done by just dashes I wanted to see how well they do on Z dashes?
  4. If you get into molding rubber I have some ideas of other things to make also I suspected you wanted the chrome bumpers, if not MSA has a kit to give it the molded bumper look. For the sides of a modified bumper, without the struts, you could make a steel or fiberglass peices and coat them in rubber to get the look. It won't need to flex since the strut would not be moving. I don't think compressing the strut fit your problem unless you release the pressure prevent it from decompressing. The other idea I have is to use a pipe to replace the strut then you can cut it to the size needed. Also I notice people are always looking for thouse struts so you have something to sell or keep it you wanted to revert back.
  5. Well I think the front one sicks out a little also on the 280Z, but it makes since why. What about a 240Z rear bumper with blacked out sides. The other idea I had was cut the original bumper along the back so it would be in line with flared curved part above the bumper, think that would look very nice. Then mount it like the 240z bumpers are with a bracket. Now the problem I have is how to match the sides (I don't have a bumper to look at for ideas on that). Also its rubber, not easy to cut and bend into new shapes.

I would not powder coat it, Eastwood sells a satin or a flat black and so does Duplicolor.
  7. Do you have a vacuum pump that you could bleed the Master out again? I think you have air around a piston or some parts within the master. The other thing to think about is a bad seal in the master. You push in which removes area for the fluid thus putting pressure down the line to the slave, which then expands pushing the pads out or in. The other thing the master does when you press the brakes is it cuts off the reservoirs so the pressure can be created. So fluid should not come out of the reservoirs when you press down; unless under pressure it is going around the seal. Now air moves better across the seals, so if you have a lot of air in the system you will see a short rise then a drop when the air is released. Not if all you are getting is fluid its going around the seals.

If you need a good master I do have one I took apart today that will fit your year, it is in good shape the rubber is like new inside just let me know

It sounds like air in the system. One little air bubble allows for gas compression making the system not work well. Sometimes if you get air in the master, it gets sometimes tricky to get out. If you can get someone to compress the clutch and blead the clutch that way you may dislodge the air bubble. The other thing you replaced the slave did you replace the master, maybe it needs new seals?
  10. I had that problem with my current car so while the car is dismantled I took apart the MC, What I found is old crud from 39 years of use was creating leaks, so I cleaned it up. I hoped it fixed the problem, but I won't know 100% till the car is back together.
  11. I've noticed two different looking metals on the parts that are yellow chromate coated (yellow chromate is added after zink or cadmium plating while hardening to create a second protective coat) one when I remove the yellow coat is flat and dull and just a smidgen darker than the other, wich is shinny. I'd pick one and stick with it otherwise you will go crazy trying to figure it out.
  12. No when I think chick car, I think of Solstice, Ski, Early Tiburons. . . Besides the height difference of girls makes the 280ZX a little less than comfortable for them.
  13. I'll give the 280ZX this, for the time span it was out it was one of the nicest new cars on the market. I rather own the ZX in those years over the same year Corvette. The Z drove nicer and was more comfortable, and that is what you bought at that time. It was a bad time in automotive industry for performance, luxury and style was the key. However their was one car in that time I've always wanted to get, that was a Toyota MKII supra.

Well you got a great deal. You sound like you love the car, hows your dad at mechanics? The factory service manual is very good in helping you work on the car and their are a lot of Z people, and specialist that would help in your area on top of this site. How in the engine compartment, driveline . . ., the mechanics of the car? Beside their is a sight for chick with Zs, and local Z clubs, you never know you might get into mechanics. Many places pay more for a female mechanic, women fell more comfortable and less likely to get ripped off with a female mechanic than a male.

By the way this is a nice car, might be missing some little things, but the important parts to make a great car are their. I like the rims those are not very common and they are sought after, I hope you keep them. What are your plans for the car?? I hope you will keep us informed.

That's better she likes the cube than the Smart car. The main reason my Mom likes the Audi is the eyelash lights:rolleyes:
  17. I bet we will all know he has been very good at letting us all know. This will be great I wish I could help.
  18. I never had it that rich for black or even gray, for water white and fells wet is my key
  19. Blue usually means oil, gas is white smoke. It would not be a bad idea to lash the valves, do a compression test, and maybe a leak-down test

the best advise is to have a locked garage, don't draw a lot of attention, park in areas that are well lighted, but not in the back lot where you stick out. Keep the car clean of stuff, don't give them a reason to think you might have something nice in the car (no iPods, GPS . . . unless you take it with you). Keep the car in sight as best as you can. Lastly don't worry to much otherwise you will not enjoy the car.

This is what I do I wirer in a shutoff circuit So the car does not run, but the clock and other stuff does. on a 280z I think you can do this to the computer. Now their are a lot of different switches that can be used but let me tell you the problem with most systems. I work a lot in bad neighborhoods in NJ so I've seen how they bypass most factory and aftermarket systems. First most people mount them the same way you will hear one blurp from the siren and then your car is done for. on factory systems the just punch the battery then put a new one in and they are off. The after market ones actualy can make your car a target, because they can sell the system (not good). Since the Z is a rarer car they are less likely to sell it for parts (easier to track in part resale), so a alarm isn't going to help in my view, just give them a reason to steel the car or break in to steel the system. The biggest problem would be the joy rider. THis is why a cutoff switch works well no alarm, cheap and effective. You can buy these special plugs that disconnect the wires and acts like a key. What I like are the magnetic key-fob readers, because they can be behind something so they are not visual. Things to think about is location. You want a place that is easy to reach and not obvious what you are doing, and that can not be seen by people looking at your car.
  22. I'd also redo the connectors for the electric fans the connectors are for interior connection not exterior. I also like to use a little dielectric grease to keep corosion down and water out. SteveJ thanks for the tip, that will be a great help
  23. Sorry I also notice that their are two different size forks this could also be the problem if you have the wrong one
  24. OK different diameter of master cylinders deals with the amount of force applied, the larger the diameter the less force it takes to push in. Fluids don't compress all that much, only under 1,000s of PSI. Have you watched the slave when someone pushes in the clutch? Just to see if it is moving. Have you made adjustments at the slave cylinder, the little rod has an adjustment on it? If this don't work I'd look at the collar. Try pushing the arm over till it won't go any farther, did it disengage the clutch? If "no" you need a longer collar, "yes" you need to bleed the clutch fluid or something is not right with the fluid system
  25. Thank you for the parts. Your car is looking great
