That will be fun to play with. I've wanted to borrow someone's good ash tray for the early 240Z and scan with a 3D scanner to reproduce one made with a abs 3D printer. If I do it I might just make it a cover that look like the ashtray door opens. That way I don't need to take the door off and risk braking it besides you can't use it for smoking if it was out of abs

Don't get me wrong powder coating is great stuff it has revolutionized production and protective coatings. The problems is most powder coating do not take paint well and make it hard to do touch-up on. On a framed car it might be the a at to go, including the suspension. On a 4x4 the frame gets scratched going over things and needs to be painted to protect the metal the problem is the paint flecks off the powder coating. I see this problem when touching up my roof rack on my FJ Cruiser, and the frame rails. Not to say powder coating will not have advantages on a 4x4 it is stronger and will take more abuse, it bonds better to the metal so it is less likely to chip off. Not to mention how good it looks with no paint runs.

Did you look into powder coat primers, then paint. Their is several advantages to it first is the coating get everything, it does not absorb oils and moisture. It uses a rough texture to allow the paint to adhere, and they say you need to scuff the paint to the primer to repaint a spot. The primer is designed to be painted the surface will oxidize and discolor without paint. I was looking into it for the Z to get the hard to paint areas on the hood doors and whatever else would fit the oven.

BRE Spoilers and Spooks are back
Attached is the Spook directions. if you get the spook and you have the lower valance with the welded in bolt location do not use the fasteners listed they are a slightly different size and pitch. I asked about the washers here is the response I got for the sizes "The original BRE parts guy says 7/8†small washer and 1½†large washer. I ran this by Peter and he said this sounds about right although he doesn’t know if they make a washer as large as 1.5†but he says you want it to be as large as you can find."

BRE Spoilers and Spooks are back
When I purchased mine it was a second gen spook stye and it fit. When I did research into the BRE parts there was two generations of the spoilers and spooks from them. SO you might have gotten a closed match product, but the wrong gen from your last one that you are replacing. I did ask BRE about accuracy to the originals, they told me they were using the same molds. THey are getting a little worn, on the spooks their was indication marks in the mold to tell you were to drill, well if you look hard enough in the light at the right angle I was able to find all but one of the marks. The spoiler mold is two parts and if it is getting worn it would explain the grind marks because that is the seam and resin would seep. I think they expect your going to paint it and it is good in that case that they do not try to cover it up with paint, because the surface would get thicker and thick paint cracks and swells a lot on fiberglass. The one thing I did not like about the spook was the weaved fiberglass they placed on the back, I'm working for an original look and they did not have weaved fiberglass so I need to get resin out sand it down on the back and put mesh fiberglass on the back.

Batman passed on a z
Agreed it should be closer to $1,500. I guess that is what you get when the side kick picks it out.

Steering wheel re-did, no gloss!
Use will shine the wheel when you look at the old pictures they were not shinny. The only way to tell how shiny is find someone who had one new and has a good memory ( that is unlikely on a over 40 year old car)

nice shell, not everyday do you find a body on anything that old in that shape and ever rarer on a 4x4 legendary vehicle.

Muffler suggestions
The bigger the diameter lower the sound. I like the pitch of a super-sprint exhaust it sounds a lot like the 50's/early 60's Ferrari. If you want a lower register sound go with a larger diameter resonator. If money is no object go with the Fujitsubo system the build is first class, but you can build something that sounds and functions the same for 1/4 of the cost, especial if you do not care that you have ceramic coated stainless steel. Now their was a company that makes a resonator that looks the same as the supersprints inside and out. Which I'll spend the looking for it if someone is interested, I'll even measure my full sysem and give you the meshurements to copy the original setup.

Will this be OK?
It will be fine. The pressure isn't going to blow hoses off or any thing the car

Car statred running bad suddenly
Rusty gas is bad. This does not need to be done right away and finding a place takes a while. You need to get the gas tank boiled out to remove the rust. Do not put that sealer stuff in the tank with ethanol and all that other garbage they put in gas now days it will come off and make a bigger mess than doing nothing. What I do and it works is every oil change dump one quart of non-detergent motor oil in with a 1/4 or less filled tank, drive hard enough to slosh it around and fill the tank. I know people that do the oil trick with cars over 40 years old and when you look into the tank with a flashlight you see shiny metal. Until you get the tank boiled you might want to get 2 or more filters while at the store, they will plug up quick. Also check any screens on the fuel system the 240z have ones on the carbs and my 200sx had one before the fuel rail I do not know if a screen is on a 75 z car. I bet you take care of the tank and you're current problem will be gone. Now the black plugs. Once you fix the fuel tank issue, I'd recommend replacing the plugs, and see after about 3-4 hours of use, pull the plugs and see if they are getting black. Black plugs are not a good sign and might mean another problem, but you want to fix the problems you know and then see if you are still getting black plugs.

Check the fuel filter if it isn't clear enough to look thru try a new one you might have some rust or something in the tank.
- did some one duke-of-hazard jump this Z?

Is it worth replacing old hitachi SU carbs with remanufactured ones?
I like to work with the problem I have and not get new ones. Just clean them up and tune them.

Weld shut or bondo very small holes in body?
solder/bondo why not weld you need to clean the metal either way; welding is the most solid method. With solder was used for areas you could not hammer out (like door frames), bondo came as a cheaper way to do the same thing. The problem with both to fill the hole you will need to build up the material on the inside and top. So when you paint the bulge will show. If you weld then crush the weld and a little hammer work you can make it smooth then use a fallible primer.

1st post. New to Zcar Club..here's what I have
The originals will be plastic so hold on to them if they are. I was repairing my plastic ones they seem to be made with a fiber mixed in, so be careful with them because I think it is asbestos. Also expect the paint to look different on the plastic ones they seem to discolor faster.

I was going to ask what is the logo above the datsun logo on the hood? Like the stripe and how it has aged it might be fun to leave the out side looking slightly worn and fix spot like near the headlight bucket.matching age look on white is net hard.

I hope your good with electrical. You can't be much worse that the last owner. I'd start cleaning the car and replacing the worn out part, and especially focus on the wiring otherwise you will be stuck on the road from electical problems or a fire from the wires. You can still get the clips for the blocks in the wirer harness to make the repair better. It is a nice car, it should be a good project and welcome.
