Nacks, Gary, Steve Thanks for the input. I checked it all out and found a couple of rusted sockets in the right tail light. I will be replacing them and see how it goes. The fusebox itself is not overheating and yeah the headlights are not affected. Can I get the sockets at any regular car parts store I don't see them in the Motorsport catalog

My 72 240 tail light circuit overheats and blows fuses. everything works and I can't find any obvious shorts but it will run for about 15 minutes before popping the fuse. Once that happens the tail lights and the instrument panel lights go out but headlights are still on Anybody have any idea what might be causing it or how to best troubleshoot the problem. Any help would be much appreciated as this has me stumped Thanks

I found the Fusible link and it appears that a previous owner has "modified" it two wires soldered into the plastic connector... Great... I'm in process of getting a new one but I still have the problem of Dead Tach, Headlights, panel lights. Any idea where to start on this? Thanks for all the input

Thanks for the help. I put a voltmeter on yesterday and it appears the battery has had it, showing 10-11 volts with the engine off and barely 12 with the engine running with the lights on. (Shows 14V and change with no load while the engine is running) I'll swap out the battery this weekend and see if that takes care of it Thanks again Brian

Gavin Thanks for the response, The car idles around 1000 RPM and there is really no noticable drop in the idle when I turn on the lights but the engine starts to run rough like it might be missing now and again and it will really hesitate when I press the accelerator. I'll check battery voltage first but if not that then what?
  7. Having a problem with my 1972 240 Z. When I turn on the headlights the engine seems to idle worse, turn off the lights and it smooths right out. Anybody know what might be causing this? Brian

Does anyone know how the locking mechanism on the drivers side door of a 72 240 works? I’m having problems with it, the key wont work and neither will the push down pin. Brian
