Voltage Regulator
i made new fuseable inks yesterday out of fuseable link wire. im gonna test my VR today with my voltage meter. i suppose i just have the neg on the battery and use the posative wire on each post in that circle plug. do i do this with the car running?

car won't start
ok, replaced batt/alt/voltage regulator. car will start, but will die after 2 minutes after watching voltage at alt or bat drop from 12.6 to under 10. so whats causing the low readings from the alt or batt?

Voltage issues?
Found and replaced Voltage Regulator. nothing has improved. still getting just over 12v at the ALT. and car dies about 45 seconds or so aftyer starting. :devious: this is pissing me off...what the hell is wrong with this thing, and if i find the guy who stole my 40 dollar stereo i do belive ill feed him to the pigs

Voltage Regulator
yeah i found it today. i replaced it... no such luck. still same issue. car will not receive more than 12.50 from ALT< than voltage drops by 3's for abotu 2 minutes, athan car will stall out.

New Wireing
Just wondering if anyone out there has ever used teh current plugs in teh harness, and replaced all the wires by hand? Is this possible? or just pull your hair out crazy? Under my passenger side it looks like a nightmare. who ever had this car before me did like a million splices on the original setup. and half of the wires in there have plugs, but do nothing and go nowhere (GNDN)... opinions?

well, not according to my alternator. it needs an external ergulator. according to my chiltons and autozone

Voltage Regulator
Couldnt find too much on this here...so here goes: I cannot find this elusive item under my hood. I belive its behind/under teh metal shroud that my two fuseable links are bolted to, and behind teh black box thats bolted under teh fuseable links..... am i right?

i think i found it... is it under teh metal shroud that the two fuseable links are bolted too? with a black box under them with several plugs coming out of it?

Alternator vs Voltage Regulator
i tried my 2nd rebuilt ALT. i ahve no stereo...got stolen, thast y all this is happening in the first place. was running fine untill last week, when it got stolen. i purchased a voltage tregulator this evening, having car towed home, as driving at night killed it. runs 8 v's with lights on. over 12 with nothign drawing on it cept for motor

Voltage issues?
no i did not touch the regulator. is it under the fuseable links?

FUSE problems post vandalism
where IS teh damn regulator? it's not the thing directly above the battery is it? or is it the box underneath the fuseable links? BTW, how can i tell if teh FU's are bad or not? i kinda wiggled them around while i had a VU hooked up and saw teh numbers change drasticly. also note, after abotu 3-5 minutes of running teh ALT is outputting just about 12v could my ground wire on teh alt be bad? its attatched directly to one of the rear bolts that attatches the alt to the frame

Umm.. MegaSquirt tells me 11.2v while running, my voltage guage says +16v!!HELP
does the fuseable links (i have 2) control teh way the alternator charges the battery? or rather what the hell do they do?
-
Voltage issues?
where IS teh regulator? i think the only thing that couldve happened is my negative wire touching the lead post on the alternator for a sec. or two. the person (girlfriend) helping me said i might have. EDIT: the battery went dead cause my alternator went bad, and died while i was driving on the highway. so does this mean since my charging system is at 11 volts, that my batery IS being charged but only at 11 volts? if so, can i continue to run the car off of that with out fear of my bat/car dieing whilst driving?

Voltage issues?
Question: i recently replaced my ALT and BATT. Measured voltage output from pos. term of ALT to NEG term off BATT: 11.36/38 this is bad right? it shoudl be about 14 or so, if im not mistaken. Also measured teh neg to pos term of bat: 12.87 this was with the car at idle after running it for about 3-5 minutes. but had to shut car off to opne hatch, than restarted the car. does this make a differeance? since this is a brand new alternator what is the issue? -Bad Ground? -Bad Positive connection? -is it possible i somehow polorized the alternator with all those wires floating around. (i did connect/install it with no battery in the car, but after battery install i might have touched somethign as the sheilding on the neg wire is bad. (since fixed)

Alternator vs Voltage Regulator
I figured i'd move this convo here: Question: i recently replaced my ALT and BATT. (since fixed) some help please, as this is my daily driver and i drive about 10 miles or so to work...i imagine that my batt will die very soon, if not today
