Shift lever threads not 8mm? What tranny?
I have bought a new shift knob from MSA. I told the guy I dealt with over the phone that I was buying the shift knob for an 1983 zx transmission in a 1973 240z. He told me that the thread size from 1970 to 1983 is the same, 8mm. The knob won't fit on my car. My shift lever is too big and I will start to strip the knob if keep forcing it on. The shift lever thread size is more than 8mm. Maybe the guy at MSA is corrrect and I have no clue as to what my tranny is. It is a five speed, and I thought it was from a 83 zx. All I really want is a shift knob that fits. Ideas?

Original seat cover option?
Do the cloth seats help keep your butt planted any better than the vinyl? I have always been sorta interested in these covers.

Time for a rebuild!
I am doing the whole restoration process because I am scarred to death of rust. I really can't wait to take the car all apart and get rid of any oxidation and rot. I mean it’s the cars worst enemy. Seeing rust on her is like an open wound, or as we all say, cancer. Like Schevets said, do what is necessary first, and add the other stuff later.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
Yeah, I agree that a chat would be fun. I dont know much about them, like terms like IRC and mIRC, but I would like talking to you guys. I dont know about the scheduled times, because we all come from different time zones. I would use it nonetheless

Jaguar XJS ZEBRANO WOOD SHIFT KNOB
I just bought a nice shift knob from MSA. It is the polished walnut type, and was cheap! Only $12.95. I bought one from them before and it was of good quality. But for 13 bucks how can you go wrong!

Leaking Blower Fan?
My car is missing this part completely. It you look under the cowl there is just a rusty hole. It is probably the rustiest part on the car. A good bit of the metal under the cowl is rot, and I have heard it is a rough fix. I am kind of worried about repairing it.

Leaded Race Fuel Still Available?
How serious of a problem is this? How bad would the wear be on an engine that has spent most of its life running on un-leaded gas?

Turbo My 79 ZX??
Maybe you should try zcar.com, hybridz.org, or zdriver.com. This site is dedicated to early Z cars such as the 240z, 260z, and the 280z. The other sites are for Z cars of all different years.

Thinking of installing an 81-83 5 speed
I dont mind long throws if they feel solid and precise. But thats what I thought, the throws are longer on the 81-83 cars. There is no short throw shifter for 81-83 transmissions? I thought MSA offered one.

Thinking of installing an 81-83 5 speed
Jared, what are the throws like on the transmission you have now? Are they pretty long? Did all the zx cars have this transmission? I am just wondering because my project car has long throws, but it is from an 83, So shouldent the throws be shorter?

Auxiliary Venturi Retaining Screw...
John, where do you suggest? I really have no idea where to start. So the Weber carb site is no good for me?
-
Triple Webers
Nah, you have nice SUs! I have heard that in some cases the SUs are actually better, but I love the look of the triple webers.

Auxiliary Venturi Retaining Screw...
I have put my carbs back on my intake manifold and cleaned them up some. They are about to go back on the car and I am missing these auxiliary venturi retaining screws. I guess they just hold the venturi in place? I will eventually buy new ones, but do I need them before I start the car? When I bought the car they were missing. The carbs are three 45DCOE13. Here are some pictures.

Looking for a brake booster
Is the master cylinder the same on all 240s? I think that the one on my 73 is different than the one on my 72, but I am not really sure. Oh, just saw your post John. Yeah, so I guess there is a difference. What is the difference?

Triple Webers
I did a quick cleaning job. Just some steel wool and polish. They look much better then when I got them.

Almost there!
Well, I spent a good bit of time on the car today. I have the head bolted down and the timing correct. I am very happy, everything looks good. I am taking the front cover and some other parts (water pump, oil pump, ect.) to school in the morning to clean them in a tub of parts cleaner. Then on thursday I should have it all together! I cant wait! It has been a while since November.
