  1. I think he's nut because it is in fact an american 240Z not a japanese Fairlady that he has. Look at the the left hand drive Z, not in Japan RHD.
  2. Just go and take a look of a two levers installation on a Z fellow web site. http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/choke.html You will also see huge amount of details on this site.
  3. On the '71, you had the remainder of what was the fast idle control on the early '70. This means that, in the early Z, the choke lever had one cable and the other lever was to control manually the fast idle. Later they bring the two cable choke lever that control the fast idle and the choke level. They stop the confusion in '72 by reviewing the desing of the center console. Sorry, no cruise control on early Z's.

Mine is 901 silver with a good clear coat on it and it looks great. Take a look at it. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=12470&size=big&sort=1&cat=500

First there was a noise telling me there was a leak and also at idle I could occasionnaly see some fume coming from the gasket. When I dismanteled the pipe I realized that almost one quarter of the gasket was desintegrated. It'smetallic and the rust got into at eat it ...

Brian, I'm talking about the one between the header and the pipe. Lokk at the picture.

In the first time I had my '72, I got this same exhaust fume problem and I noticed that there was a small leak coming from this gasket. So when I replace my clutch I had to take down the exhaust system and I replaced the gasket at the same time and it solved the problem. Cheap. Cost about 4,99$ at Cybersanford.com.

Hi Brian, does it smells gas or exhaust ? If it is exhaust it may be your gasket that seals the manifold and the exhaust pipe that leaks and the smell comes from ventilation system or holes in the firewall. If it is really gas then park the car before it explode !!!
  9. That is usually my last resort ....
  10. My '72 reversing switch has been damaged someway and I'd like to get a new one. Someone knows where I could get one cause I asked my usual used parts dealer and they don't have any. Of course north of the border would be interesting but it doesn't have to.
  11. The one on the rigth is the same than the one I have on my 12/71 '72. I part out a 8/71 '71 last summer and it's the same. So unless the early '70 has different valve I would think the rigth one is the good part.
  12. Well your noise may come from the inner or outer bearing (a mess to replace..). If the car had been parked for a while they sometimes dry and worn very rapidly. Concerning the choke plate, unless you have a brand new console, the plastic is not strong enough to last very long. For my part I made a metal plate (aluminum) that I'd fitted underneath the console and then I attached the choke lever after it. It completly invisible and works great. Concerning the weather in Montreal, very few snow but butt freezing temp for two weeks (under 0 F). Not a weather to put a Z outside !! I can send you pics of thing I have if you want.
  13. That's a bright idea. Is it welded to the tunnel ?
  14. Hey guys ! I finally found the problem. A worn distributor shaft. It had a slight slack sufficent to lose the timing occasionally. Replaced it with a rebuilt one and the problem is gone.
  15. WOW !! It really looks original. It is always good to see one that original. I have the same hybrid '72 (12/71-HLS58865) with the non retractable seat belts and vertical lines. I don't want to restart a thread on the oil caps but which one do you have on this one. I have the OIL one. Also I just swapped my dash that has only one easily repairable crack in it but I got a perfect one this summer and couldn't resist buying it. I also have a center console without a crack but you have to fit a metal plate underneath to hold the choke mecanism. I did the same with the one installed on mine and it is the best solution. If you're interested, give me a reply. I think I also have a perfect dome ligth.
  16. The wires are brand new and from the highest quality I could have at UAP/NAPA. The very strange part of this is that it looks that when I pulled the wire away from the plug just enogh to have the spark to jump to the plug instead of the direct connection, it solves the problem.
  17. I have a stock '72 with everything original (coil, distributor) and sometimes I have this rough idling, misfire and lack of power. I changed everything from the contact breaker to the leads, the rotor and distributor cap and it happens again. What amazed me is when I pull the lead from certain plugs the engine doesn't react and if I just put the wire wire close enough for the spark to jump on the plug then everything goes back to normal and if I put the wire in place then the rough idling comes back. Any clue ?

I had a '72 V6 Capri (the flashy fluorescent green one) and the sad thing about this car was that you could be at any moment in a parking lot beside an old lady that had the 4 cylinder version of the car..... And I can tell you that it had not the reliability of other german cars. I don't remember a part of that car that didn't brake in the 3 years that I had it !!

Hi Mike, mine is a 12/71 and it is between the series II and III by the fact it has the new console, the reclining seats, the retractable seat belts pocket but not the mechanism and the vertical wire in the hatch glass. My VIN is HLS30 58865. I also have the black interior with a silver 901. The silver '72 were supposed to come with the burgundy interior. I have taken a close look at all the interior part and I see no signs of interior swapping of any kind (like trace of glue or anything else...)

Well. Maybe I'm wrong when I think mine is cut pile. Take a look at these pics of mine and give me your opinion.

Has someone taken a look at the '71 with 31K miles on ebay actually. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4505345559&indexURL=8&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting What do you think this rear carpet is ?

In my '72 I have the rear carpet that has a loop pile style but it has many rips in it. I bought a part car this summer, complete original '71 that has been garaged for the last 26 years. The rear carpet is a little faded but intact and it's more like short brush style. I suspect this is the original style. Anybody can tell me which is the good one ?

I want to install a new seat upholstery for my '72 240 and I wonder if anyone has any experience with those kits they sell on the net for around 200$. (e.g. Too intense). Any suggestion ?
