the thing is, the guides feel nice and tight under the valve cover...at least the driver side one does. either way, i guess im going to have to take the front cover off anywho. ARGH.

:tapemouth :tapemouth went to go to Eddie Radatz's today, he helped me adjust the valves hot finally! car ran smoother after that. but i finally asked him what that wierd noise was. sounds like its coming from the first valve, right under the timing cover. well, it only hits right at 1700RPM, nothing more, nothing less. i started the engine, reved it, and he knew instantly. its the timing chain hitting the guide. the drivers side is loose. how the heck did this happen? its got a whole new timing set on it, the guides are solid in place, whats up!?!? i really dont want to take the oil pan, the PULLEY, and front cover off. i just want to go ONE month driving this thing without someing going wrong!! heheheh

she will be ok. take it to the shop to see how bad it is. post back and tell us how many degrees of it is from center. id be interested.
  4. isnt it funny, that tonyD runs a mid 15 with his stock 2+2 when noone else can even break into the 15's on a stock coupe. wierd huh. somethings not right. you know what it is? he said its a ZX motor, well a non turbo ZX motor had flatops in it, correct? hmmm...something tells me tonyD's little 2+2 wasnt stock. oh well, hes a jerk. and heck yeah i will be in the mid 14's!!!
  5. i was liked overthere till i posted my times at SEZ. no one could believe what i ran with my engine setup. then a guy named ghostkilla, who hates me, started all these threads and said i "hacked" gotz.com. then like 4 other people started bashing threads saying how my car sucked, and then it just blew up. i still HATE vince, the creator of the site. he wont answer my emails or anything. i do NOT deserved to be banned. but now im here! yes! why did i choose dished? cause when i rebuilt the engine, i knew SQUAT about theses cars. just overbored it .020 and installed fresh oversized pistons. now i wonder what it would be like with flattops :-) and my compression is 8.3:1 stock, but with the overbore it puts it at 8.4:1 plus my deck and head are shaved a little bit.

yes, it is differnt, but i have two vent holes at the top of the tank that utlize the same hoses as mention above. where the arrow is point above, i have that nipple, as well as a smaller one right next to it. those are the only two vent holes on the 76'. stock, it still had that sharp "J" bend to it, and im about 99% sure the 240Z hose is the same, bend wise anyways. just try it out gee. if it worked for me, it will work for you. sure beats spending lots of $$$. just make sure you give it enough room not to kink, and you will be fine!

thats not true! my bday car: 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo Intercooler (wagon!) and we had one!

bambi, actually if you use enough length of the hose, it wont *kink* you just make a fairly big loop. you get what i am saying? if i can, ill go take a picture and show you. no leaks at all, no fumes. i used 1/2in fuel line, and it works perfectly, you just have to use a little more than usual. i will post a picture soon.

  12. well i know, i was just simply stating. some people say their 280Z without bumpers weighs in at 2600, i was just, you know, comparing. good for the search feature, if someone posts, how heavy is a 280Z 2+2.

they are VERY expensive. i think like $80 USD or so. what you can do is go to a car parts store and get fuel line about the right diameter and use that instead. i elimated all my evap systems on my Z, so the tank is sealed. it only has one hose, .5in, going from the top of the tank to the top of the filler neck, so it will fill all the way. if you dont want to go that route, i think its banzi motorsports has them? www.zzxdatsun.com is their website maybe? i cant remember. yup, thats the site: GF-23 Long gas tank vent hose 1970-1973 $91.00 look under customer requests section

  15. SEZ i weighted the 2+2. without bumpers, without AC system, all under carpet hard sound deadening was removed, and some engine componets, such as vaccun canister and things like that (see my engine picture). anywho, this was with me in the car, and with my stereo, subwoofer, all seats, and a half a tank of gas. only thing not installed was the center consol weight: 2710 lbs. i weigh 155, so that brings it down to 2555. that is AMAZING for a 2+2. they are NOT over weight at all. when my friend and i took the seats out and my stereo stuff, i got it down to 2610 with me in it. just wanted to put to rest the theroy that a 2+2 is heavy!
  16. Just a litte FYI for those running low compression engines that havent ran the 1/4mile and wondering how good it will do. At SEZ this weekend, i ran a best of 15.096 seconds at 94.2 mph. not to shabby! i finally posted it on Zcar.com, and everyone got mad and started bashing threads, and then blamed me for hacking gotz.com. wow. so i got banned, and now im here! anywho, if anybody wonders what times they will get, here is my engine set up: block bored over .020 fresh dished pistons balanced race preped rods and crank semi ported head new valves with 5 angle valve job 60mm TB AFPR cold air intake ZX distributor 6-2-1 headers eurodampner all new valve train MSA stage 2 cam new injectors 15.096 is not to shabby for a car running 8.4:1 compression! and i havent even tuned the car yet. runs REAL rich and needs valve adjust bad. not to mention an electric fan! :-)
  17. about time someone other than my dad and i did this! except we used Re-bar positioned in a triangle, so that way it only took one bath for the parts. left them there 12 hours a piece. everything came out great!
  18. everything is different. the whole body itself is about 2 inches wider near the top. thats why you cant even switch out glass. its really wierd. the major changes happen from winshield back. actually, thats the only changes. length and width, plus youve got a cool ashtry in the back of the center consol
  19. thanks...i just wanted some reassurance. some guys on zcar.com are saying the pulley will just fly off again, and will destroy the whole crankshaft.... ill try to get some pics up later....
  20. my is pumpkin.... is that a theme?
