use a new one. always replace them when you are there. they are cheap and if it goes bad 100 miles after you get her back on the road then you will wish she had a new one.... cdavid
  2. the vacum advance tube will normally be removed after the vacum advance function of the distributor is no longer working. very few of them work as the ball bearing come loose. take your tube of a pull air through the tube with the distributor cap off and see if the advance mechanism moves. if you see the ball bearings laying around then you know it's not working. after all the common mods and gearing changes made along with the addition of an msd, i have no need or want of the vacum advance and for my taste, prefer to remove the tube and any other part which is not usefull or working. blocking ift off is good for the prevention of debris getting in said parts. cd

hls 30 was once scoffed at for quick and repeated diagnosis for many rough running engine gremlins to be a dirty tank and or fuel line. there is a very good reason for his advice. "change your fuel filter and or pump and or drop the tank can be heard at nearly every zcar gathering i have ever been to". the pictures below represent a tale of what could be your in your tank. not pictured here is the pump and the secondary filter that was built onto the pump. all of which were replaced and btw i had dropped the tank during paint and body. the pictures show how much can happen in a short period even after a removal and cleaning of the tank if you don't fill it immediately and keep it full. cd http://homepage.mac.com/cdavidwilder/PhotoAlbum43.html
  4. everyday, all day, here, there, any where. rain or shine, it's all good. i've put 60 plus thousand miles on my car in 3 years only to have it taken away for paint and body for over a year. now i'm back curing the cravings. i'm curious to know if anyone here or if anyone knows of another early zcar being driven as much. cd
  5. yep that is "the car" formerly owned by charles juckett; a stand up guy. he no longer works for zfever and the car is not there now but has been on the property after being hit ( not totaled ). no question about it's posture as a premier skyline and it's unique position as a stand alone us save the fact someone may have brought another over here since. charles is now a success in the car forum, site host biz and has turned his car interest to the subaru. http://forums.subytech.com/showthread.php?t=50 cdavid
  6. there is a 97 Tommykaira R Skyline GTR here in tampa. rumor is it might be for sale and i know the previous owner prior not the current owner as a very stand up guy. i say this because he has treated me well not just because he gave me a ride in the above listed master of road taming. cd btw: this is the only known tommykaira in the us...
  7. twin turbo twin supercharged rb26. the engine is mine only in my mind. i do not own it, nor have i seen it or know where it is. any info about where to find it or visit (pay homage) is invited to my ears as i to would like to see it in action. check out the links below for more dream building. http://videos.streetfire.net/hottestvideos/19/36035AA1-2B82-4AC1-87BD-771358852BEC.htm http://www.exvitermini.com/ cheers cdave

  9. i have known of a difference in driveshaft length but you must put them side by side and or install two of different lengths in the same car. my realization came from removing an original 71 4 speed driveshaft and installing a 5 speed driveshaft. i cannot on this topic and will rarely say anything is 100% consistant with all build configurations throughout the models but " i have seen original equipment driveshafts of different lenghts that will fit a 240 " also, i second carls comment. also, your clunk is likely a manafestation of all the clunks in my history of zs and that is from loose mustache bolts, bushings and or diff mount play. cdave

give yourself some credit. most upright bipeds are very capable of recognizing quality. that is how the inlaws who have never driven a car worth more than their annual salary can say nice car. what we forget is the car they did not admire, even though more money was spent and or had a big wing on the back. my point is, a well planned project with a consistant theme and care taken has value and the lack of it is how we "car guys" can occasionally say "wow, he spent alot of money on that one and it still looks wrong". mmagnus, you not only built a car worthy of great admiration. you built a car wanted by one who chose your style over his own and who concievably has the resources to have built one himself.

yep, that is burt diamond. i can smell his words. the sick thing is that he would be proud to have us say what a jerk he is. i find his neurotic behaivior very funny but he has hurt many people with his words and unless you can brush off his comments it's best to stop all contact and let him move on to his next victim. cdavid

i got this real ugly blast email from some z purist that was completely pissed about what i have done with the car. sending ugly blast emails getting pissed about a car enthusiast's preferences telling a grown man who has invested 45k into a car he loves that a 35 year old car in your car's condition is not worthy of the restored badge. these actions disqualify this person from my definition of z purist. the only thing right from him that you have indicated is that a modified car is not a bone stock car. i'm sure you would not snooker some unsuspecting buyer into thinking this car is as it was when delivered. so advertise it to the masses as a restored car and when you have a serious buyer "who does not already know" tell them of the changes. but for your sake don't sell the car only because some jackass is getting far too excited about your personal property and how you choose to advertise it's sale. this guy only has as much influence on you as you let him have. you know your car and the market and what you want from all things considered so do what you want and tell said z pruist i would gladly meet him for lunch at a nice restaurant of his choice in tampa to discuss how much we enjoy owning and driving our cars. cdave

sean, again you made the show even better. headlights are up and running; i too can't wait to see my car done and if you think for one second about not being in daytona i will drive to shalimar and hold you ransome for a week of zcar bliss whether your wife, kids or co like it or not. cd for those reading this and are thinking zfest was the wrong show to miss; just think of the pain that would be to miss daytona. start saving time and money now cause it's only going to happen once... live, love and drive to daytona

i feel very strongly the 240z has a market new, used, restored, refabed with a new fi inline 6 or even a turbo diesle. the new mini, charger, bettle, rx 8 or even the revamped ford gt 40 proves in my opinion the stellar cars of yesterday can and will continue to be brought back to the market with new standards in safety, fuel and comfort. the full line of z cars are the most popular sports car by volume against any sports car line ever produced. i would have thought it the first choice to remake as a classic styled new version long before the cars listed above. cd so if you bulid it nissan, i will come i celebrate in advance the 2010 nissan 240z

the msd is an upgrade much like changeing the points to an electronic distributor. the msd, coil and wires will allow your car to run far smoother than without. you will get better fuel burn and for me, the car would start in a flash and never use the choke. i have even removed the choke linkage. to answer your question, no you do not need to have an msd but i for one will never run a car without one. cdavid

dump the points but use a 79-83 distributor. the money saved will buy a msd and msd brand coil and msd brand wires. if you ignitor goes bad, you can eliminate it as the msd will serve the same funtion. the links below offer a lot of information. cd http://www.jrdemers.com/280ZX/distributor/distributor.html http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html
  24. wow, i love these types of thoughts and ideas coming to life. john, your skills are as evident here in your part as they were at willows springs in 2004. your part and your post are most appropriate in my eyes and i would love to see more members find success with use of thier knowledge of the z car. cd
