I have spoken with him. In fact he lives about 10 miles from me. He can make me a 2.33 mm copper gasket for a reasonable amount. It would give me a ratio of 9.96:1. I was thinking that a stage 1 or 2 cam may lower that down a little, to say 9.00 to 9.30:1.

I checked Gretty but they don't show an 28 on their web sight.

I've tried to get in touch with Blake but haven't had any luck. I did find a calc on Atlanticz and it showed a ration of 9.95:1. Now I'm trying to find a stage 1 or 2 cam. Is it better to find a new one get one of mine reground.

I think that is more than I can afford.

As some of you know I have run into the problem of high compression on my engine rebuild. I have a rebuilt engine bored .020 with flat tops. Sitting on top is an mn47 head that is rebuilt but stock. I now know that the compression will be too high and am looking for a 2mm copper headgasket. I haven't found one that is reasonable but did find someone here in the Phoenix area who could make one but it would be 2.33mm thick. How do i find out what the compression would be with a gasket this thick??
  7. No most all the z's I've bought were in running condition, although some needed work. Most were bought to be fixed and sold. MY 78 has been down for 10 years but it is just a chassis. I'm in the process of trying to get it put together. If you need a harness be sure you get one that matches what was in the car. On the other hand I may have a complete harness from a 77 available. Did you pull up the carpet and check the floor boards, look under the car at the frame rails, pull the battery and look at the battery tray and surrounding area and under the tray? There's a lot of info you can get from here and at zcar.com. Search is your best friend. Also look up xenon's site and download the FSM [factory service manual] and the fuel injection bible. Also get contact the local z cub.
  8. I'm in Glendale, Z car source doesn't work on cars, just sells parts, Arizonazcar is a great source for aftermarket and upgraded parts. Unfortunately there aren't any repair shops that specialize in Z's. Check DZA: http://www.desertzassociation.com/ They have a list of service providers that offer discounts.
  9. http://www.tucsonzclub.com/ Check with these guys for help in getting your car running.
  10. There is a Z club in Tucson. Do a google search and talk to them. Could be a lot of help in getting your car running.
  11. I don't think you understand the risk that Haggery is insuring. They are a specialty insurer and they can dictate the terms and risks that they will assume. Taking your car on a business trip or going to home depot exposes them to more risk than the occasional 3 day over night to a car show. The same can be said for driving to club events and club activities. Their in the business to make money and having your car exposed to xtra risk may cause them not to. If a theif wants to take your car from HD parking lot it would be assumed it is the only one there. If your on a car club run there are more cars like yours making it less likely it would be taken. That said I went thru Barett-Jackson for my collector ins. Found them to be a bit more liberal in car usage than Haggerty. Just my 2 cents woth.
  12. would maintenance be problem with this one of a kind turbo??

I have a 1978 280z that I am trying to put back together. I am trying to use harness tag#24012-N4200 which is for a 1977 280z. The harness that was in the car was a 24011-N7600. The last harness shown in the Zenon microfiche for 3/78 is 24012-N7600. The one I was going to use just isn't working. I have found another 24011-N7600 but wanted to be sure it is the correct harness. Can anyone offer any light on this or where I can go to get the correct info. By the way my car was mfg 5/78.

http://www.desertzassociation.com/ http://desertdatsuns.freeforums.org/index.php These are the two z clubs here in the valley. Desertz is the older of the two and the members are older, more of a social group with lots of events. The other is limited to cars older than 1984. A much younger group that is more tech oriented. Check them out as they can provide a lot of information. DesertZ costs $30.00 a year but gets major discounts at the dealerships for parts and service.
  15. if you part it how much for the wiring harness??

I am installing a 77 wire harness into a 78. The harnesses are different and am wondering if the ECU from the 78 will work? The main difference in the harness is that the early 77's had the underhood relays positioned elsewhere, I think under the dash on the drivers side. Will using the 78 ecu work?? Also would a 2+2 harness be any different?
  17. I had a ford fiesta. Got it new and kept it for 3 years. Car got great gas mileage
  18. wow what a list of cars. can't remember all the cars I've owned but I do remember the first one. It was given to me by my brother in 1964 as he was getting married and was getting a company car. It was a 1952 HILLMAN Minx convertible. It had 3 on the column but European style in that it was the reverse of American cars. The top was manual, it had a whoppong 9.5 horsepower. I drove that car for 6 months but never took it out of the town I lived in and sold it to the gas station owners son for $25.00.

    what about the wiring harness??

Just an update, the work has been slow. Gas tank is installed, harness installed but has to come out. I was going to use a 77 harness but it doesn't work in a 78. The relays are different. Also found out that the engine needs to be redone, at least the head, as the compression is too high. Am questioning whether to continue or just sell everything.

I am rebuilding a 1978 280z that was stripped many years ago. At the moment I'm trying to get the relay shelf and relays together. I think the 78 280z uses 4 relays for a 5 spd manual: 1. A/C relay 25230-4205 4 pin connector 2. EFI main 25230-89970 4 pin connector 3. fuel pump control 25230-8996 5 pin connector 4. Fuel pump 25230-H7200 4 pin connector The picture shows the relays. I don't beleive I need the inhibitor because of the manual tranny. The question I have is, in looking at my old relays 3 look alike. 2 are marked 25230-H7200 while they other can't be read. Does anyone know if these relays can be used for all the 4 pin connectors?? If not anyone know where I can get them? Would like to install new if possible.
  22. will this work on the 280z??
  23. Just a note on the triple Su's, there was a guy here in Phoenix, dave oveida, who ran triple su's. I think it was in 2002 or 2003. Had em on the car for 6 or 7 months but couldn't get them to run right. I think Preston Pratt made the manifold.

The calc works however it doesn't have the mn47 head just the n47. Using this the comp showed 10:19:1

I think I titled this right. I am in the process of a 5 year rebuild of a 1978 280z. Note this isn't a frame up rebuild rather I start and stop as life gets in the way. It will be a week end driver not show quality but will look good. The question I have is the engine. My father in law did most of the work as he was a 40 year ford mechanic. I had done some research and had the engine bored 30 over, we installed flat top pistons and then a mn47 head. There was some mild porting and polishing done to the head when it was rebuilt. After talking with a number of folks I'm told that the compression will 10.5 to 11:1. This to high as I'm not gonna run race gas and 93 octane isn't available her in Phoenix, Az. I'm told that I may be able to run on 91 octane if I use megasquirt or some other engine management system. I feel that this way beyond my capabilities and would like more of a stock experience. So I guess what I'm asking is, what to do now. I am not going to use fuel injection and will be installing su's. It has been suggested that I could change out the head with a p79/90 or buy another engine. What would you do??
