First drive in the Z, Backfiring and sputtering.
My name is Stacey. I have a '74 260 Coupe. I'm going to tell you to try something that might sound crazy but I've seen it with my own eyes and she ran way better. Take off the cover to the air filter, get the water hose with a spray nozzle on it- rev the engine to about 3500 rpms and spray a fine mist into the intake for about 10 secs. The car smoked brown smoke- did it again and it smoked white and once again it didn't smoke at all. My car also has the round tops and believe me he knew what he was doing. It cleaned my heads and pistons at the same time. I couldn't believe it. I love my carb. guy. Told you it sounded crazy. Get a hold of me @ cornish_stacey@yahoo.com.

hard cold start/valve lash adjustment
You adjust the valves with the engine hot. I have had 6 Z's. Intake valve is .25 mm's or .0098 in. Exhaust is .30 mm's .0118 inches. When the carbs were rebuilt was the jet needle and main jet replaced? These don't come in a standard rebuild kit and have to be bought seperatly. Last time I priced them at the dealers it cost about $80.00 per carb. That should help. Stacey and Michael in San Diego

Need Your Help
I have a '75 280 with a problem. A popping sound(like Compression) in the #4 cylinder when the plugs are out. The compression in all valves are 160. Also how do I look for damage in the spring rocker arm & pivot. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Stacey

Help Me with a Diagnosis
Hi. My name is Stacey. I have 4 Z cars at this moment. My '75 280 has a problem & I can't figure out what the problem is. Can you? #1- A "popping" sound" like a compression sound" in the #4 cylinder when the plugs are removed and #2- A "knock" also out of the #4 cylinder that corresponds with the intake valve cam load after it closes. The compression is equal to the other valves-160. And last but not least how do I look for damage in the spring rocker arm & pivot? If anyone could help me. Contact me ASAP.
