Spindle pins needed
I will be buying spindle pins, bushings, etc. as well. Motorsports is the only vendor I have found that has them. Does anybody know who else sells them (cheaper)?

'72 240Z at Barrett Jackson
DeesZ - you are correct, there should only be 1 mirror on the drivers side and it should not be black. I don't know if this car is represented as being bone-stock. I live in Phoenix and remember looking at that Z back then. As I recall, it had a small crack - about an inch - in the dash. Some small stuff also, like non-stock shift knob, but overall in good stock condition. No telling what if anything has been done to it since then.

What to Powder Coat, Plate or Paint
I have a pile of parts I'm ready to get pretty. These parts will go on a 73 240 that is in no way original anymore - I bought it that way. I mean this car has gills for heavens sake. So I have no guilt pangs about blinging it up a bit. I will soon be making a trip to the powder coater and plating shops and I'm not sure which way to go on a few parts. I know some of it is personal preference, but for other items there may be functional reasons to go one way or another that you guys with more experience out there would know better than I. I threw together a list of parts - I know I forgot some stuff, but it's a start. Here is my list: Powder Coat: ------------- Control arms, crossmembers, sway bars, struts, tension links, moustache bar, misc other suspension parts other than bolts, metal part of steering column in the engine bay Plate: ----- All fasteners, washers, tow hook, striker plates, door hardware, hood latch, door latch, hatch latche and dovetails, hood prop rod, hood hinges and rods, misc brackets from inside the engine compartment, washer nozzles Paint: ----- Differential - I don't want to take it apart just to powder coat it Motor and tranny mounts - rubber so I can only paint ????: ----- Drive line & yokes - balancing issues? Steering Rack - some parts one way some another? Transmission - what have some of you guys done? I'd be curious to hear what other members have done. Thanks in advance...

To echo beandip: Two words. Home Depot. If it doesn't work you're out $1.50.

Hi, There. Parts Help.
To modify a sub-1000 Z - assuming it has the matching engine - would be a crime in my book. There are a lot of other Zs out there for cheap to do with what you like. My 2 cents.
- Spring cleaning.

My $100 Craigslist Series I Earliest Automatic
It was originally 918 orange. The dash as some small cracks. The car was in Gonzales, Cali. Out in the middle of farm country. Go240Zags - No you can't have too many Z's! My neighbors may not have that opinion... but no problems with them so far...

My $100 Craigslist Series I Earliest Automatic
Jackhammer, you are right. I will have some choices to make. I have 4 Zs that all would be good restoration projects. I hate to turn a viable candidate into a parts car. Fortunately, I don't need to decide that right now. Sailor Bob - I was far away from this deal. I drove over 600 miles one way to get this car - leaving Friday night and getting back like 5am Sunday morning. When a deal comes up, you have to jump on it right away and be willing to travel a bit. Having a tow dolly helps a lot. The car was originally 918 orange. You can see it inside the hatch and a little in the engine compartment and on the underside of the hood. If is under cover now while I get my 73 going.

My $100 Craigslist Series I Earliest Automatic
I was checking out Craigslist looking for a parts car and came across an ad I thought must be a typo. It was a 70 240Z in not too bad of shape for $100. I live in Phoenix and this car was in Gonzales - near Monterey - California. I figured I'd give him a call just to see if it was real. It turns out it was the real deal. The car is complete, original, and very well documented. It is number HLS30 07969, build date 8/70. It is an automatic car, as is verified by the warranty card. It has the series I NISSAN 2400 OHC valve cover. I think it is the only automatic car in the registry that came with this valve cover. The guy I bought it from's dad was the original owner. The warranty book with 2 warranty cards, original tool kit still in the plastic bag, owner's manual and original jack and spare tire are all there! I checked and the VIN matches all around and the engine number matches the ID plate on the shock tower. There are a few small rust problems. The battery area is remarkably clean. A small spot under the hatch, on the drivers' fenderwell and on the roof, no spots more than a finger size. The floor pans are in great shape. I was looking for a parts car, but with all the documentation and the rarity of such an early automatic - this one will be restored. I put some pics in the gallery. Check it out!

Warranty cards,owners manual,tool kit
Documentation for this car - just as I returned from purchasing it. I had just found these items when I took this photo.
-
VIN on the dash
VIN matches the door jam, firewall, shock tower. The engine number on the shock tower matches the block.
-
Tool Kit, Owners Manual, Warranty Book
Documentation for this car - just as I returned from purchasing it. I don't think the tool kit has ever been out of the bag. The warranty book has two warranty cards.

I purchased this car from a Craigslist ad for $100. I had to drive over 600 miles to get it, but it was worth it!

3.36 r180 vs. 3.55 r200
If you get an R180 from an automatic car, the ratio is. 3.54. I have one of those I'm getting ready to pull from a parts car. FYI.

What's the earliest Auto Z?
I am getting the car from the 2nd owner - his dad owned it. It is a very original car. I'm interested to see what is on the valve cover. I also have a 10/70 parts car with the NISSAN OHC valve cover. Sorry Mike, but your info is bad on the lowest VIN titled as a 71. My 3486 is build date of 4/70 holds that distinction. I don't know the story on it, but that's what's on the title. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks for the feedback.

What's the earliest Auto Z?
I will be picking up number 7969 this weekend and it's an automatic car. I thought that the auto cars came later. I don't yet know the build date of this car - any educated guesses? I'm guessing maybe 7 or 8 of 70. It's titled as a 70. thanx in advance guys...
