Tank Tech Coatings
These posts are interesting. I am contemplating tanking my tank to a local radiator shop for the boil-out. They said that they boil-out (let it soak) for 3 days, then check the fittings (and repair if needed), then they will coat the insides with a product called 'Tank Tech' which is a yellow filmy liner. The work includes a lifetime warranty too. I asked a bunch of questions about the product, and they said they have been using it for several years with no complaints. I learned about this place from Zedyone here on the forum - he has experienced no problems either and he is pretty careful. I do value everyone's opinion here - you have pulled my fat out of the fire on several occasions.

New Z owner
I agree with Carl Beck. My own opinion is to keep stock for the most part instead of re-engineering this and then compensating for that, then having to alter.... It goes on and on. In the end you will have sunk way too much $$$ and far more time than you will ever re-coup. Besides, when you substantially alter your Z it removes the commonality that we all share and depend on when we are helping one another out with problems.

I believe that I have mine on my parts car in Humble. They're yours for Shiner Bock (my Std. Price). PM me for my cell.

Mystery coolant leak from above the Transmistion
I agree with the others. Heater Core replacement time. For now, you could by-pass the heater core by looping the lines at the firewall in the engine compartment. This would give you time to acquire replacement parts (e.g. Core, new hoses, water ****). When you are ready, come back to Forum for instructions to replace all of this w/o removing the dash.

HLS30-00721 will soon be razor blades.
If this were something that you wanted to do, I could talk my brother into letting us use his shop. He owns a full service transmission shop in Humble (a couple of club members have been there). The shop has lifts, plenty of air, a forklift, torches, lots of parking, a kitchen and BBQ grill! When we're done, you can haul off your booty and leave the remains for the metal guy (I am thinking there won't will be much left over..). If any other guys wanted to change oil or do simple repairs - the lifts are available - just bring your own oil / parts. Let me know what you think.

JeanP - Glad you're OK, sorry about your rig.

Frank, It is good to see that you will be getting another Z and be able to part out your poor friend. You should have a disassembly party with all of the Houston area club members. BYOB Beer and BBQ - I bet we could have you all parted out in a day!

Tank Tech Coatings
Has anyone heard of Tank Tech coatings for fuel tanks? I searched for them and only found a commercial tank servicing company. Anywho, The Rad Shop that I am thinking about sending my fuel tank to uses this coating - so I am looking for any other Zed-Heads who have used this material (Zedyone excluded ). Thanks in advance...

Radiator possibly getting cylinder pressure.
I have noticed the rising coolant when the system has not been fully bled. I would think that if you were getting cylinder pressure the car would be running poorly or you would see lots of turbulence in the radiator -all of the time. The last time I changed coolant, I used a new funnel from Lisle (Lisle funnel 24610). It will allow you to add coolant, watch the coolant bubble and bleed out the air, and get a full radiator the first time, which was Real Nice. You can get one on Amazon for $23.00

It would still be good to have a spare.

Finally!
Thanks a bunch. The spoiler is a Xenon and the ports are for extra air. The body shop is Deerbrook Collision in Humble, Texas. Unfortunately they are selling the biz to another party, so I cannot vouch for the incoming owners work or ethics.

Finally!
Thank you for the compliments. What happened was that I noticed specks of 'Trash' beginning to emerge in the finish - even though the paint was laid down wet and slick. The painter quickly said that it was unacceptable and asked to have the car back. After sanding it down they claimed that the metal was not prepped properly. The second time around they scrubbed it real well with an acid wash and sealer - It all was done with PPG products. I have to thank the paint shop they are stand up group of people.

Charles, I have an excellent source that might be able to get a hold of the service manual for you. Here is a link to a company that specializes in the Jatco 3N71B transmission that was used in the 71 240z (If I am not mistaken): http://jatco3n71btransmissions.com/. Apparently the Jatco 3N71B was used in a whole hassle of vehicles besides the Z. Make sure that you use the tabs at top of the page to navigate, especially the FAQ tab. I will post more if I find any for you.

Charles, Without knowing what your skill level is, I would suggest that you look into having a local Trans Shop do a bench job for you. Automatic Transmissions - especially old ones like these can be complicated and real pain. Just my 2¢....

Finally!
A while back my Z went back to the painter for a warranty redo. Well today, I finally got her back - just in time for a fine weekend of tinkering! I will be updating my album as I get her detailed back into fine shape! Here are some pics in the meantime...

New Paint pending, should I get rid of the rubber door guards? 1973 240z
One more thing... You could buy a modern low profile bumper guard (from paint shop NOT JCW) that could be painted to match and then applied with 3M tape. Think Infinity G37... With no holes drilled, you can always remove later.

Hole size for emblems?
I would suggest that you install the emblems with 3M automotive tape. No one will notice that you have applied them this way and you will avoid opening up your paint to moisture and rust.

is the rust too bad?
What I can see from the pics can be fixed, but have you looked at the Frame Rails and Floor Pan? Pull the carpet up and start poking around with a screw driver. Look at the Frame Rails, poke around on those too. It those places are solid, I would say there is potential - if not save your $800 for a better Z to start on. Does it run at all? Does it even turn over? This could be a really nice parts car as it easily has more than $800 in valuable parts. If you do buy this Z, go to a paint store and buy a gallon of Phosphoric Acid and soak all of that rust a couple of times. Good luck.

Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
What a great thing it is to have a little car that garners so much attention! My experiences are very much the same, the only thing I don't like is the attention from the police. There are a couple of small towns in my area where the police are real DiHicks. They most always give the plates and various stickers the once over then give me a nod. Good Times.

76 280z Needs help on AC!!!
So, a couple of things. Your Z either has a plugged expansion valve or (more likely) a bad compressor. Does your Z have factory air or aftermarket? If your Z has factory air, then there is no replacement expansion valve -so you would be looking for a new evaporator and modern expansion valve. BUT lets not get ahead of ourselves... I would first focus on replacing the compressor and drier, pull down a hard vacuum (-25 lbs Hg) for like 30 minutes and then throw the first can in as LIQUID and you should be able to get the rest of the refrigerant to draw in (remember the 10:1 ratio!). If you have aftermarket AC, then you will more than likely have an modern expansion valve and if you can get to it - replace it! Also, you should be able to reuse your compressor clutch and save some $$$. Good Luck.
