Well, I replaced the Condenser, Evaporator, Expansion Valve and Compressor - so everything. New evaporators will require a expansion valve. The expansion valve is the key with R134. If I was going to do this all over again, I would eliminate the expansion valve and have a custom high pressure hard line made to accept a modern Orifice Tube right at the firewall where the screen filter you asked about earlier is located. An Orifice Tube works well with R134 and is what modern AC systems use. Orifice Tubes are easy to get and pretty efficient. However, nothing quite beats a good old fashioned expansion valve. Note that R134 has a higher head pressure on the compressor than R12, that is why I added an electric fan in front of the condenser. You WILL notice much better AC performance with an electric fan.

dcruz, I have a 78 parts car and if the part is still on the car, your welcome to it. I believe that you could clean your existing one though. Didn't we have a discussion about your AC endeavor a while back? Seems familiar. Anyway, if you want/need to get creative, I have some tricks.

I have upgraded my AC and I would suggest that you just replace the fan clutch. I did add an electric fan in front of the condenser that only comes on when the AC is on, I did this to alleviate the additional compressor head pressure since I am using R134 AND because I live in Houston, Tx -which is akin to Hell in the summertime. The more air that you can move across the condenser the cooler you'll be and the easier it will be on your equipment. Now if you are hell bent on going all electric, follow 5thhorsemann's advice and don't scrimp. You might also consider an electric water pump -just an idea.
  4. I am sooo sorry to see what has happened - I am actually physically ill looking at the pictures. I am very glad to hear that you are OK. If you are able to get the car-cass from Hagerty, you can store it for for free with my parts car in Humble, TX until you can get all of your goodies off it and otherwise pick it clean. Just PM me. Maybe we can meet for a beer at Crabby Daddy's to mourn.
  5. POW! - That's what I'm talkin about. Nice job.

STAY AWAY from the San Antonio Z. I believe that the Richardson Z would be a better value. If you have $3k plus to spend and money is tight - you have to watch out for ANY potential money pit. I live in Houston, so if there are any Z's here that you are interested in - I will be happy to give it a hard look for you. Above all TAKE YOUR TIME LOOKING, you have waited this long - You will find the right Z for you.
  8. Holy Sheot! This is really some good work! I know that this represents a tremendous amount of effort, so thank you very much!! I ask that you please upload the file to the Downloads area, located under the Members button on the toolbar on this forum. Yes, I would also like to get a copy of the Photoshop file. I would like to have a Wide-Format printout made for my garage - I will PM you.
  9. Here is what you need to do: Make sure to release the emergency brake, then find two bolts that will thread into the drum. Get a propane torch and heat the area where the hub pokes through and heat the studs. Take a hammer and whack around the hub, NOT the studs. Next, draw down on the two bolts that you threaded into the drum by a couple of turns each. Go to back to step 2 and repeat until the Drum breaks free. Now if one of the bolts pulls out or strips the threads, don't sweat it. These were made to be sacrificial, so you could go up a size on the bolt until it hangs tight. After you get the Drum off you can get it machined or replace it. Regardless, once you get the Drum free you should discard all of the Brake Hardware including the Cylinder -SAVE the Adjuster. Celebrate and Drink Beer:beer:

What does the rest of it look like? Bad rust? Jacked up interior? How is the engine? Does it smoke, knock or otherwise run well? See what it would cost to have a body shop check the body to see if it is straight (Unibody not torqued) If those things are ok, then it would be fine to handle the body work.

Have you tried Motorsport Auto?? http://www.thezstore.com
  13. I believe that these are still available from Nissan. If not, you will have to get creative at your local parts house. Take you old one in and match up to stock formed hoses.
  14. I luv Maryville. Right down the "I'll Kill Ya" highway!
  15. I have one. PM me.
  16. I have some like this in storage. Just need to be painted or chromed and new glass. PM me if any body wants them. Just pay postage + beer money.
  17. I second the 5thhorsemann's comments. I have a massive amount of Craftsman tools, If they had only offered Husky and Cobalt tools when I was younger.
  18. Although I understand moving on to something different, putting myself in your shoes made me kinda sick to my stomach. I suppose in a good way you're sharing with others. The Z and your hard work will certainly be appreciated.

I used Satin black. It looks like new. Don't forget to paint your screws and tighten the clips!
  20. Zedy, PM me with your address and I'll send you some $$$, no need to be left hanging especially after all of the work you have done. I can meet you for a beer to collect the shirt after the ride. I'll see if I can drag Ben with me.
  21. Well just wanted to share some bad news. I took my Z to the painter to have some blemishes worked on -that was two weeks ago. They just came back and said they felt there were too many blems and that they needed to do a complete repaint! Holy crap -that takes me out for the rally and I have to help strip off the hardware from my Z. I do not know whether to be pissed off or thankful. The thing is I don't feel that it was that bad, nothing that a color sand and buff wouldn't clear up. My wife tells me to stop beotching because I am getting a redo for free, it is just the time and effort are starting to make me crazy.... Anyway, I guess I will be at the Rally in spirit with the rest of you. I would like a shirt though - an XL Polo in Navy or White if possible. I can get $$$ to BenZ, just let me know...
  22. I agree with FastWoman. You can download the Fuel Injection Bible from the Members\Downloads section of this forum. If you are looking for a copy of the '78 FSM, here is a link to mine: http://www.mediafire.com/?y2x2e66oh939z9t
  23. Check Master Cyl, then clean the Proportioning Valve, then completely remove the Bleeder screws in the calipers and make sure that there is not some crap clogging up the port. Tip: you can use some electric trimmer line to rod out the ports and hard lines to push out any debris.
