  4. Any good metal fab shop can make you one. It is not a crime since you are not attempting to change the actual vehicle number which is found on the dash (removable), on the door jamb (removable), the passenger side fender engine bay (removable) and drum-roll on the firewall just near the brake booster (not removable). Don't waste more time on this.
  5. I have the AZ rears and the T3 LCA on my street Z which I drive very hard. I also have the T3 rears on the 240 race car and stock LCAs. I like the adjustability of the AZ in the rears but both are so much of an improvement over stock it is hard to say which is better one way or the other. The AZ rears solved the CV issue I was having which the T3 would not have been able to do. The T3 fronts are massive and better than the custom set we made which failed on the track. You really can't go wrong with either set-up.
  6. water temp, oil pressure, O2 sensors and EGTs are just indicators or if you like trip wires so the engine can be shut off hopefully before too much damage has occurred.

  8. Ahhh, the other John, the real true to life Z suspension guru. The man who is building a Peking to Paris (Old school trip means old school spelling) 240Z. If he wasn't 3000 miles away my Z would live in his shop between race events.
  9. Blue, putting the car up on stands when the floor could be uneven will not provide a valid test. Zedguy - I truly meant no offense asking about your weight, since it could be a factor in balancing your Z.   12. Well the carbs and stock exhaust manifold weigh in at say 30 lbs. Are these the same doors as before? An older door would be lighter without the crash-bar. I'd also look at all the suspension bits to see if something is not tight and snugged up to where it should be. Say like the spring is not sitting in the perches in the right place. Also if the car is not sitting on a completely level surface it will look off. No offense but what do you weigh? It might be level with you in it. After hours of trying to corner balance a 240 we realized that the floor was not flat. Off to get a laser level and several more hours of shimming the four corner balance stands to get things dead spot on. Car turns out to be perfectly balanced that is until you get in it. More time spend moving coil-overs up and down. Grumble, grumble....
  13. I run the 1/2-inch in the rear to fill in the CP flares during vintage events where I'm required to run 15X7 wheels. For all other events I run a 15X10 rear wheel so there's no need for a spacer. I will try using just the front spacers and no rears to see if there is a noticeable difference. Tried a few years back and there wasn't but the tires and some alignment points have changed since then.

  15. I have run 1/4-inch in the front and 1/2-inch in the rear on my 240Z race car for more than 10 yrs without issue. I have added longer stud bolts as rules regarding lug nuts are that they must be open and the end of the stud bolt must be equal to or out of the top surface of the lug nut. Just because you can catch threads on an acorn covered end nut doesn't mean you have enough threads to be safe. You want a hub centric up front and a lug centric in back. Summit Racing sells nice ones but you need to mill out the center to get a true hub centric spacer. No added stress or damage will occur because you have inserted your 1/4-inch spacer. You might even find your Z tracks better with a wider front wheel spacing than the rear spacing.
  16. I like the front air dam, which is not a BRE, but rather a BSR variation. Bob ran a metal one on the cherry red #33 and then they started making them in FG as they transitioned to the Red/White/Blue livery that d*** designed. Anyone have a BSR airdam?
  17. The Quaife will not generate the heat that say an LSD will. I and others have taken out diff oil pumps and coolers since the temps never get above 220 degrees F even after 90 minutes of track time in the summer (90+ ambient). I watch engine oil, water, EGT(dual #2 & 5) and tranny temps instead.

I have just installed an O2 sensor (2 wire) in each of the exhaust pipes back near the fuel cell with a gauge for each, a dual EGT gauge with TCs in the #2 and #5 header pipes, and an electronic fuel pressure gauge (no gas in the cockpit and getting those isolators to burp is a royal PITA). So I can see EGTs, fuel pressure and O2 readings at a glance, in addition to the engine oil temp & pressure, water temp, voltage, RPM and tranny oil temp. This is overkill on a street or even AX car but is cheap insurance for a track only car. Perhaps the best of all these is the fuel pressure gauge. Weld bungs into all 6 header pipes, tune and then run. Put sensor in and out of the 6 on different runs and see if there is any difference.
  19. I have a set or maybe two of the sill covers and the fenders, so I guess I can cover at least two or three race weekends this year.
  20. Blue - I offered a ride to a guy at one of the ZDayZ events and nearly went over the edge when I forgot to factor in the effect of his weight on the car's CG. He said he was 230 but it turned out he was more like 275. Pete, Brad and I did an early Saturday run after a very heavy night of drinking. Pete was green and Brad a nice shade of grey when they caught up to me on the other side.
  21. I had to replace my driver's side mirror after a biker hit it with his helmet. The tail is one of the few places where a driver can get car sick and it's not a place for someone towing a trailer.
  22. Registered. Trailering the race car down from Boston unless it has issues, if so I'll bring the gnose. Building two engines this winter, an L28 for the race car from the left over parts from our Bob Sharp haul and an L24 for the gnose, plus Rebello owes me a 3.2L race engine. Hoping to get the Preston dog ring/dog leg 5-spd from the 1979 280ZX BSR back in service as well. Interchangeable tranny gears and a 4.38 diff with a Quaife should be a nice combo.
  23. Cleaned up the engine bay, mocked up an extension piece to add two O2 sensors, a cockpit fuel pressure, tranny oil temp and a dual EGT gauge. Cleaned and painted the diff carrier, Took out the accusump and flushed it and the lines. Started building adjustable pedal pads. Unpacked the R180 115mm Quaife (and looked at it warmly).
