  1. Since I have a 314hp NA L28 it's not hard for me to figure out the cost and it runs on 93 pump gas (but likes 100 better). Telling you the cost is a whole 'nother matter since you could be my wife using a fake ID to get it out of me. Z-Ya is prepping an L28 race engine with just under 12:1 compression ratio, all the good (and $$$) internals, the spare set of refreshed Solex carbs from the BSR 240 and the works head from that car as well. Hoping for 250rwhp and I'm guessing we will have nearly $8k in it plus all of his time to assemble it (the parts alone are likely to be worth twice that but we got them in a package deal). Seems there should be a "sticky" on - "So you want to know the cost of a 250hp plus NA motor build" using posts from the hundreds of replies to similar questions.
  2. Very impressive list! I thought my list might be long but my ownership is kid's stuff compared to yours. I need to put a real list together and see how it comes out. My guess for the car you wish you still had is the Olds Cutlass....
  3. Having installed a similar rear bar last year I would suggest adding a spacer to move it about 3/8-1/2 inch back on the carrier legs. Note the angle of the link ends and then consider that angle at full compression. I used two pieces of metal with a cut out tab at end end to hold them in place. Drilling them out will do as well.
  4. Focus less on what class you will run in and more on car prep. Seat time is what you're looking to get and the more the better. Worry about class when you can run the course balls out and not go off course or hit any cones. Bottom line: just go out and have fun.
  5. I might just be able to make this one :^) No Z but my project out at McClellan is scheduled to last through the 18th and I could stay over a day.
  6. Here are a few not often seen options -
  7. So here are the new custom front control arms and the TC rod I am putting on our 240 race car tomorrow. I've drilled out a new hole 3/4 inches up on the engine cross member to give me a little better geometry.
  8. We have used one for several years in our race car and just recently welded in the floor and wheel well legs along with the passenger side bolt thru slip on sections. We ended up adding a bar across the back to attach seat belts as the cage has only one attachment loop (for the driver) and door impact bars. So far we haven't had a chance to test the impact and protection capabilities.
  9. I for one don't think one tank of ethanol laced gas is enough to eat a hole or worst to your hoses. We only get this type of gas in our area and I have not experienced a similar reaction after hundreds of gallons of gas/ethanol usage. Are any of your gas hoses hard? When was the last time they were replaced? Three to five years is my max time limit for just about anything rubber on any of my vehicles.
  10. Just disconnect one end link and try that but now that you've added the fact that the AX course is mostly dirt, then my Ridgeline comment makes even more sense.
  11. Mike B - that is the other BSR 300ZXT (likely the Fitzgerald #38 car) and the body part fitment on that car is less than perfect. Those extra doors, hoods, etc. shown in the photo would make an excellent replacement inventory should you happen to own a 300ZXT race car.
  12. Or slightly better than my Honda Ridgeline.
  13. The one and only BSR/Newman 300ZXT drive by Paul himself. Not mine and it's been sold to a gentleman in California who I can mention next week.
  14. So the BBS wheels are ready for tires and the 44mm taper bored to 50mm Solex carbs have been gone through (note the lack of a venturi and instead the soldered in "J" tube). Cam, springs, rockers, etc. got cryo and rem treated, pistons Swann treated, E31 head has been gone through, torque plate rented, cage welded in last night and tonight hit it with the grinder, undercarriage and wheel wells to be touched up after all the welding.
  15. It took more than 7 hrs to sort out the 300ZT from the 280ZXTT parts, transport it to the garage and unload all this. Next stop California. The 280ZXTT and lots of spares is still available.
  16. Will you be needing instructors for the track day and if so will there be a discount for doing so?
  17. I too like the various VTO wheels and I would take pics to your agency and see if they have a problem with these or say a set of mini-lites or panasports.
  18. None of the aftermarket spring sets will cause a massive geometry issue since you won't get more than a 1-inch drop (and that might not happen if you have tired springs and shocks in there now - it's low already!). Go to coil-overs and now you begin the process of making real mods (bump steer spacers, custom front and rear CAs, moving the pivot point on the front cross member, etc.). I'm running coil-overs w/Tokico HTS shocks and 275lb springs on my 240 and it's low by most standards. How does it ride? Firm. How does it handle? Great.
  19. Dam, I flew in yesterday for a project and missed the whole thing. We, the Z Club of New England, won't have our first event until mid to late April. I have 3 ft of snow on my roof and over 6 ft in drifts around my house right now. Nice to see that some Z owners get to drive their cars in February!
  20. That's my '72 240Z in a picture taken in 2004. Since then the headlight covers and a custom front airdam/splitter has been installed. Engine is a Rebello 3.2L NA w/triple 44mm Mikunis making 314hp@crank and 258@rw on 93 octane. Car was awarded the "Mr. K" trophy at the '03 ZCCA convention and then taken directly out on the race track. I had it down in Nashville for the 40th and took it out for some angry laps on the Superspeedway when our 240 race was being used by my co-owner friend and fellow racer. It will be at ZCON-2011 as well along with the refreshed race car (new motor with some BSR bits - E31 BSR works head and 50mm taper bored Solexs, BBS wheels, etc.).
  21. In 1975 BSR ran the 6-hr at The Glen (DNF-engine) and had lap times 3-5 seconds slower than the 911 RSRs cars. No mention of any BSR car being entered in any enduro race before or after this event. In '77 P Newman drove a Ferrari 365 to 5th place (Robinson and Minter) while Morton's 365 was wrecked in practice at the 24hr of Daytona.
  22. Update: 300ZXT sold to a buyer in CA, 280ZXTT will be at vintage race week at The Glen in September. Some pics of the spare parts. Bob Sharp is doing well (as of a few months ago when I had dinner with him). He bought a nice replica of his 240/260/280 race car and should be out with it this season at vintage events in the New England area. I expect both the Tom Cruise 300ZX SSA car and the 280ZXTT to be offered up for sale after the Glen event this fall (Datsun/Nissan to be featured cars). Both of these cars were at ZCON 2010 and I hope to get Peter's permission to make them available for the 2011 event.
  23. There is a serious need to define the exact perimeters of your question. Are you talking stock Z/Mustang? Which yr or yrs? Modified or not? There are heavily modified Z with more than 400-500HP and upgraded suspensions that would compete with newer Mustangs I would imagine.
  24. I have never done a scientific/research project on the merits of 240 vs 260/280 rear control arms but the 2+2 ones seem to be a bit heavier (never weighed them). I will ask one of the original crew members of the BSR/Newman team what he thinks next Wednesday when I'm down picking up parts. I am also unaware of any reported failures on Zs with double or triple the original HP and/or ones that have been raced. Our 240 race car has seen 7 yrs of hard track usage and the arms are just fine.
