  1. And for all the other races: http://www.wspr-racing.com/wspr/results/imsa/nf_imsa_home.html
  2. Results from races in '77 & '78 w/Zs running in GTU set-up: http://www.wspr-racing.com/wspr/results/imsa/imsagt1977.html (note the Buick Skylark!!) http://www.wspr-racing.com/wspr/results/imsa/imsagt1978.html
  3. If driving a car that has a definitive shape, whether that be a Porsche, Mini, or a '66 Mustang, isn't enough then it's time for a 2009 M3. I assume you have taken the time to drive other Zs which have been modified in a manner you are considering. If not than you are wasting everyone's time asking them subjective questions. Would it less tiring to drive 15 hrs straight in an M3 rather than my lowered, cambered, 300 lb spring, and 320hp NA (no lag throttle response) engine? Most likely. Would it be as much fun to look over the hood as the M3? Not hardly. Good luck in your search....

    Super Taikyu

I'm looking for car build sheet specs for a 350Z in either the Super Taikya or other similar Japanese race events. In particular I'm looking for car build specs that closely match what is being run in the Porsche Cayman Interseries held at HSR events. Not looking for a Group A car specs but more like a Group N. Your assistance is much appreciated.
  5. Alan - I believe once I have some time to research the records we should find results from races when the 240/280 ran in its' IMSA trim against 911s.
  6. I can personally attest that the BSR 240/280 was/is a bear to get off the line from a dead stop due to the gearing and engine rpm issues. The Carrera was a love to take down the 1/4 in comparison.
  7. CircuitWriter is a very good option....
  8. I think a moment of reflection is needed. None of the cars, whether they be Porsche or Datsun, running in B or C Production were stock in any stretch of the word "stock". These were purpose built RACE cars, not some showroom car version. It would be helpful to show perhaps the race results from a large number of SCCA stock car races where a 240 ran against a 911 (and no, a 914 doesn't count). The public might have been fooled by the marketing department's ad campaign that Zs were out beating Porsche's when they failed to mention which model Porsche, but we shouldn't be. In David G. Styles (Alan stop grinding your teeth) book he noted that the BSR 240 race car had a 1/4 mile time the same as a stock 2.7L Carrera.
  9. So my hood latch wasn't working quite right so I took off the hook section from the hood and pushed it into the receiver on the firewall. As I pulled the handle of the hood cable release it dawned on me that this might not be a good idea. The latch shoots up, in slow motion, and tumbles over and over as I try to get around the open door and lay myself out (an end zone catch) to no avail. A dent/chip in my cowl. What a maroon..... I feel for you.
  10. I had the pleasure to spend several hours talking with Bob Sharp a few weeks ago at his home and at dinner. His sales/marketing strategy was to beat Porsches on the track over the weekend and then sell Datsuns on Monday. To do this his cars never ran races more than 2 hrs long. Most if not all of the Porsche teams ran a complete season w/12&24 hr races. This meant the 911s had to be built for the long haul and Bob's cars (Zs included) were more "sprint" type cars. The car were built stiffer, which is not something you want to drive for more than 2 hrs at a time, and could out handle the softer 911s.
  11. The V8 is loud enough up close and personal for my delicate ears... But I'd give anything for a ride in the BRM.
  12. Or a Preston dog-ring w/ 3.321-2.138-1.346-1.135-1.003 Pick from the other 15 gear sets (2.430 to 1.140) or buy what fits your needs. Of course there's the money involved in getting one. But rxsleeper made a great point about the diff and fitting it to the course and the car. While most of the folks who just posted know this, it will be a "new" fact for someone else to discover.
  13. Arne nailed it! More frigging seat time....
  14. Here are a few more pics of DatsunDocs nice 240 at vintage week held at The Glen and a few of the 240 tribute car Bob Sharp bought last year. Trivia question: Who replaced Tom Cruise in the 300ZX showroom stock car?
  15. A quick search will give you the info on a wiring harness, relay and the options for light housing. It is a pretty simple job.
  16. Remove the two screws on the back side and I believe it should come off. Let me go down to garage and see if it does. Be right back....
  17. www.symbolicinternational.com and for better pictures: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/paul-newmans-1987-nissan-300zx-imsa-gto-racecar/#3157147 Should, might, could be the last Nissan Newman drove. There is another 300ZX NA car, an '88 that I believe Scott Sharp drove with more with luck and that is for sale as well. Look up the '88 SCCA archives and you can see the places the '87 raced and the results. Paul kept this car and had it for more than a decade after it stopped racing is my understanding based on a conversation I had with Bob Sharp last night.
  18. Vintagezracer - the '87 300ZX NA race car is a stand-alone car for sale and was not part of the Bob Sharp collection sold in the late '90s. This car was a Newman-Sharp car instead.
  19. Carl - do you have an undercarriage pictures of 240/280 BSR-Newman race car?

  20. Silicone gasket material works just fine. For years now Skyline engines have used it instead of a regular gasket. Cheaper too.
  21. Does anyone know the history behind this particular 300ZX race car? UPDATE: Found history in SCCA archives. Ran well in qualifying, not so in the actual races itself (gearbox, engine, etc.). Only ran in 1988 and no mention in any races in '89. Interesting NA induction however. Car seems to be up for sale.
  22. Either a local SCCA or car club should be able to assist you in learning more about being a second seater. Helmet to helmet communications are a MUST. Being very secure in your seat is a plus. Learn to give simple and decisive commands with no hesitation. If you can't read in a moving vehicle without getting sick, find someone else. You both need to run any type of rallye you can find in your area and get use to each other. I wish you luck. If all else fails, buy me a plane ticket and I'll come out to train you.
  23. Even for me that's real low but hey not my ride and the work done on the car looks good. Would like to see more shots of everything else (suspension, engine bay, etc.). Those flares sure seem to give an added illusion of how low the car is. I would also like the photographer to shoot my car as well. Nice job! Did anyone notice the air dam being deflected at speed? Love the wheels....
  24. After stripping more than a dozen S30s I have found that the hatch hinge boot becomes hard and or painted over. When this happens you are unlikely to notice that they are there at all. You really have to go looking for them. With some luck and patience you can pry them out. That has worked 4 out of 12 times.
