  1. The usual attendance is in the 275-350 range but all you need to do is look up each one of the past 5-10 conventions and email their respective club presidents. In 2003 we had just under 400. Build your business plan on a lower number so that you make your nut early on. Don't over buy trinkets and junk, watch for all the "comp" costs and try and get payments in early.
  2. Nuzgal280 - your Z with John Morton behind the wheel looked impressively fast on the front straight and you're right it got faster each lap. I enjoyed judging your car at the show and watching it on the track. All around great job!! ZLady - I'm sorry we weren't able to get you a ride in either our club car or my gnose 240. Here's a thought or two on how to increase your odds of getting a ride-along: 1) remind us and do it often. Once we get to the track our minds are pretty filled up with car prep, getting our student assignments, meeting them and going over their car and track experience, and in the case of Nashville, figuring out the best line to drive. 2) come prepared. Most tracks require a long sleeve shirt, long pants and closed toed shoes. Find someone to lend you a helmet. 3) review the track schedule. Knowing when we might have a hole in our schedule between students will enable you to be standing by, ready to go when we are now free to go out. 4) know what time it is. I for one don't wear a watch so I have to go over to my cell phone to see what time it is and where we are in the schedule that day. If we agreed to take you out at say 10:20 then remind us you'll be ready and ask where you should be. Then remind us what time it is right then and how many more sessions before your ride-along. I'm not sure how fast John Morton was going but I hit 132 on the front straight and my speedo is accurate. After seeing the track while we were up doing the autocross on Friday, my first thought was that "we needed a bigger boat". The club car will get more HP this winter....
  3. I'm betting that this is not the RB25 motor you are interested in.... Go over to www.hybridz.org and get all the info you need to do an RB25DET swap. But be warned - if you fail to do a search before posting questions or post your comments in anything but complete sentences (spell each word out) you will likely be put in the "tool shed" for a period of time where you will not be allowed to post or you could end up being banned from the site.
  4. Savannah, GA - most likely July 27th thru the 31st
  5. Alan, I agree completely with your thought that it would have been pretty lucky of them to get it right in so few shots at the apple. Of course they might have stopped when it was "good enough" due to any number of reasons. I too have seen the "Grande" name used but wondered if this was an after the fact naming. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated as would pictures of the other gnose versions. Enjoy your holidays....
  6. During the car show Mr. Matsuo told me a story about the final shakedown of the latest front end aero work with him driving 500 kms at 200kph late one night to see if this version would keep the nose down at speed. I asked him if there were any pictures of the earlier front end aero styling and he said he would email me them once he got back home. He then went on to say the A, the B, and C noses, etc. didn't work as well as the G nose. So Alan, please jump in and help me as I have never heard this portion of the story behind what we call the g-nose. His comments to me were quite clear as to what they called the earlier versions. As to keeping the front end down, I took my 240 out on the track at the Nashville Super Speedway and got it up over 130. The front end was planted and stable with steering inputs that felt similar to those at speeds under 70mph. I'd say it worked...

  8. drill a small hole and insert either a wood or plastic rod of the same diameter and epoxy it in.....mine has been in for 6 yrs.
  9. auto to 5-spd swap and they left the diff in...
  10. And the 5-spd shown is a 280? (hint: apple starts with this letter). A ZX 5-spd only has one tab in the rear tail (280b tranny).
  11. BTW, the use of the GM tranny poly mount does not exclude you from using the stock diff mount. If someone needs proof they can come look under my 240 at the upcoming ZCON event in Nashville....it has over 6,000 miles on it so far.
  12. Before someone else gets touchy on the matter, next time try and conduct a search using the SEARCH button and typing in "tranny id" or "5-spd", etc. before asking questions. This topic has been covered forever. That said, early 5-spds look like 4 spds but later 5-spds ('80-83) only have one rear mounting tab. For an unknown tranny you would need to either try to run it through the gears or take it apart.....
  13. It's an R180 that is found in ZX cars that have an auto tranny.....
  14. So what name would you give this spoiler on the BSR/Newman 280Z? It's much taller than the BRE version and more upright. Not sure of the history, designer, etc. Alan, your thoughts....
  15. Dan - as promised....we have the molds for the front chin spoiler, the side valances, the front fenders, and the rear (higher than BRE) spoiler. We might even be able to get a hold of some of these as separate parts so that other molds (better than ours I'm sure) could be made. I'd love to see a set of S30 front control arms/TC rods, and a front/rear triangular strut bar set-up.
  16. One quick question - the bars you suggested, are they places one can drive their Zs to and not be molested? Cars, not me....
  17. We'd need to know quite a bit more about your Z to provide you with any meaningful suggestions. Such as: 1) recent alignment? 2) ball joints/tie-rods check out okay? 3) steering rack held down tight? 4) steering rack friction nut loose? 5) steering coupler worn/loose? 6) lug nuts tight? 7) correct air pressure? 8) TC rods tight? 9) condition of bushings? 10) wheel bearing tight? 11) sway bar end links and bushings condition? Go through these and report back your findings....
  18. I have installed grease fittings in several bushing locations and they work fine. I use regular grease and hit the fittings the same time I'm under the car doing the ball joints, steering rack, u-joints, etc. Before I put in a different rear control arm set-up I had delrin concentrics and I tapped fittings in on the long narrow tube of the stock rear control arm. Filled with grease they keep the bushings well lubricated. I also have them on the concentric front control arm bushings that are delrin. Works great.
  19. see attached.... Pete and I wish you as much luck as we've had with our 240 race car. Okay, good luck not the blown head gaskets, broken rings, holed pistons, steering wheel coming off at 100mph kind of luck.
  20. Okay - 19, 17, 16, 14, 13, 12, 7, 6, 5, and 2 (in a 911). I use to travel a bit....

I would suggest you spend a fair amount of time over at www.hybridz.org Research, search and then ask questions. They are a serious bunch and don't take lightly to folks asking about something easily findable.

BSR sold everything in the Comp catalog including pre-made fiberglass body parts (everything but the roof) along with the molds themselves.

  24. I didn't know I was on the convention team.... As to the pearl yellow 260, Pete Sanders and I were told that it was mostly Mrs. K who drove that Z but that it was built to spec for Mr. K (color and sun roof). We were told this at Nissan's old head-quarter's during the Long Beach convention by Tony D, a Nissan employee and a former Datsun employee. Is this correct? The ZCCA historian should know.
  25. The 260 that Mr and Mrs K drove has a sun roof that is a very nice piece of work. The pearl yellow paint job is pretty special too. Take the time to look this car over. The BSR/Newman 280ZXTT and Cruise's Z31 SSA car will be on display at the show and on the track as well. Both are out at Mid-Ohio right now...
