Whatever you end up doing (old pictures, scrap books, ads, etc.) it all comes down to one thing, taste. I've seen tacky and I've seen what could be called by some as art. What is too much or how it is arranged, is there a theme, does it match both the car and the intented audience, does it make people want to stop and get to know more about you and your Z? A good place to start would be find someone with a sense of design who could work with you to build something more than a collection of this and that. But once you build it be very aware that someone will attempt to steal it.

I want to add to the earlier posts that you need to step back first, take a deep breathe and figure out how much money you have before asking another question. When you know the answer to that then everything else can and will fall into place. Unlike you and a few others posting here I didn't get my first Z (a 260) until I was 24 but then again that was in 1974 and I bought it new at Bob Sharp's. Now I own a 240 and it has a NA 3.2L L28 series engine (w/triples) making just over 320hp@crank on pump gas. More money in some ways than a turbo but a true joy to push to the limit.

The oddest Z car conversion I've ever seen- the Spartan.

I don't think I want to (see the whole car at once)............ -
They are plastic and to date no one has a cost-effective way to redo them. You can take them off (do a search - I've posted instructions), clean the insides while you are at it, coat the lense itself w/clear and then lightly sand, prime and paint the trim in any color you want (black like the tail light 3-piece trim finisher) is a good color.

That ITS Z was more than a good deal, it was a great deal. If it wasn't 3,000 miles away I'd have that Z in my garage. It's fast enough and the suspension/alignment set-up is near perfect....

I'm running the pertonix in my euro dizzy coupled w/MSD-6a box, the 3.0ohm coil, BS-7 NGK plugs, 8mm Magnacore wires, and no BR. Runs just fine.

Car #918 along with a '72 parts car and other parts is available for the low price of $2,500. Title, not running, in fair to good shape. Located outside of Hartford, CT. PM me if interested.

I have used female spade ends (a little bit of pressure applied by a pair of pliers) closes the gap nicely. I then put on a dab "liquid" electrical tape and have not had a problem in over 45,000 miles.

Jim Cook Racing/Sebring Tuning I have his muffler on my 3.2L L28 w/triples and it sounds dam near like heaven. Jim is an ex-Datsun racer and knows his business, their service is great and the prices are very attractive. When I move up to 3-inch I will get one of his mufflers....

There are so many misconceptions regarding the ZCCA and that they are actively listening (by reading these posts and considering what is being said - or not said) is one of them. One could say the sole reason the ZCCA exists is to manage the $25k that Nissan gives it to hold the annual (inter) national convention. The mission statement says a bit more than that but all missions statements say more than what they actually mean to say. Oh, we get group insurance (we could get it cheaper and with expanded coverage for club officers but that's another story) and we get discounts, and we get, hm, we get? See that's been an open (sore) question for the past 5 years or more, what is it you get for being a member of the ZCCA? And what is it that Nissan gets from their association with the ZCCA? I know what we get, $25k. Now that doesn't sound like a lot of money but with that you get all the follow-on that makes a convention possible. What is follow-on you ask? Follow-on is vendors like Toyo who put up funds for the track rental and expensive raffle gifts, Bose, Black Dragon, etc. who's donations make more things possible and who would not be at the convention if Nissan wasn't there. Nissan is the flypaper, not the attendees. Oh, we buy from them but not in the volume Nissan does. So where is Nissan's focus these days? Is a Z car convention a good place to put their money? Do they have a long-term strategy regarding the Z community? Should the ZCCA be looking into options if Nissan takes their money and goes away? What does Nissan want from the ZCCA and how do we collect that info? The east coast bias theory is pretty lame as the selection process is based on clubs volunteering to be hosts for the convention. If no northwest club puts up their hand and says we'll do it, then no convention will be held there. I for one would like to see a rotation system put into place where we go to 6-9 locations (not necessarily the same clubs) throughout the US. I would like to see a "convention committee" brought in,that has the experience and knowledge to make these things easier to put on. I'd like the car show and judging to be taken over by the ZCCA or else dropped. And a website that is topical and relevant. I'd like a "national" ZCCA motorsports activist and a contract specialist to review all needed documents. I want to see the ZCCA involved in more than just the annual convention and that involvement needs to be timely and regional in nature. But what I am talking about is something akin to the fight over Federal vs States rights. Do you want a strong actively involved ZCCA that operates on a national level or one that is weak and lame? It's time to choose sides, boys.

A senior moment....how could I have forgotten the Kingston, Ontario convention! A very fun track and a club that seemed to be more like family than a group of car owners. My apologies, I really liked that convention. As Carl explained the choices comes down to a "Z love-in" or a "meeting of the minds". It is difficult to do both with all the distractions but perhaps there is a third option. Given we now live in the 21st century, a major portion of the business end of the ZCCA could be done on-line BEFORE the convention even starts. Ideas, proposals for the next annual convention, rule changes, marketing strategies, etc., could all be discussed, pondered by the Host club presidents using the internet. The only business left to do at the convention would be say voting (location for next year, officers, final rule-making). A pro-forma meeting with everyone briefed and ready to vote BEFORE they walk into the room. While this is a "convention" thread, I'd like to throw in my $0.02 worth by asking why limit the ZCCA to a singular event? Why not use the experience of the executive committee and their connections with Nissan to promote several regional Z events? (and yes, I know most if not all the answers as to why it can't be done, but for my part I'm not buying ' em). Why no ZCCA rep at the Mitty, MSA, or the Tail pressing the flesh, sitting at a booth, hanging out a banner?

I have no doubt that the '08 convention will be fun and I have already put in for the time off. I would expect nothing less from the host club and the group of folks working hard to see that all of us who come will be happy. That said, let me once again go over my list of do's (the don'ts would run for pages): 1) feed me (Nissan pays good money) - twice 2) make registration painless 3) read the convention "how to" manual more than once 4) call on others who have done it (they now know what they should have done) 5) get help for the car show (it's the most painful event you will hold) 6) expect the unexpected (accident w/dealership loaner) Here's my take on the ideal convention: 1) food - NH 2) track - NY/Long Beach 3) carshow - Vegas -the room was near perfect (better lighting) 4) events - NH & TX

It seems to be leaking through the switch itself not from the threads. The case was filled to the exact level and no more (I left the plug off until the level dropped to below the filler hole). I have about a dozen other switches but why put one in to find out it leaks too. So what sealant stops gear oil (under a small amount of pressure)?
-
Before I get into a trial and error experiment in an attempt to stop the gear oil leak coming from my tranny reverse switch, I was wondering if anyone has had (and solved) this problem (using X as a sealant?). Thanks in advance....

As one of the event planners and event managers at the NH convention, I can say we couldn't wait for Art to leave either. He's still pissed because he didn't need a business license and didn't ask for a table at the car show. Did he turn down the lobster diner after the day at the track, the open-ended shrimp bowl at the banquet, or the free drinks at the reception? Hell, no. So, Tail of the Dragon in '08, Art? Maybe I can talk Brad into giving you a ride with him. That said, I find most of the poll listings to be pretty lame or off the mark. How about getting Aerosmith to do a benefit concert at the track (say, Daytona) or raffle off a new NISMO 350Z, or offer a chance on a free trip to Japan to watch the spring races? All great ideas but who is going to bankroll these suggestions? A great convention would be one that had the following IMHO: 1) easy registration (software that remembered me from last year) 2) a good track 3) good food at the reception (and enough of it) 4) a road rallye that didn't take you through a city or get you lost 5) a carshow crew that knew what they were doing (set-up, judges, supplies, water -remember the heat in Texas, etc.) 6) a pre-carshow review to weed out (and educate owners) wrong class issues 7) an autocross event without drifters nearly destroying the timing equipment 8) a social/historic/fun side event that either makes you smile or gives you a better appreciation for the location you're in (River-walk, Boston Duck tour, etc.) 9) an "expert's panel" 10) a hotel that is dedicated to the convention, with staff that will bend a rule or two, and one that isn't too large so that 400 Z people aren't considered a small group (Vegas) 11) access to historic Z cars and people 12) an ample amount of good food at the banquet

The Bad Dog rails (both 240 and 280) fit over existing frame rails but (there's always a but), they won't if someone used the rails as a lift point, you ran over a curb etc. Then you'd need to grind down the high spots. All this is a tad easier than all the work needed to get the undercarriage and interior ready for welding.

Engine Bay with Triple Webers and Interior Shot...
gnosez replied to Mr.Woof's72z's topic in Introductions and Rides
BJ - I'd try running that triple set-up with much shorter horns (3/8 to 1/2-inch) and see how it goes. Your current set-up does not allow the rear horns a clear shot at the in-coming air. I switched when I installed the ITG fiberglass box on my Mikunis and it made a real difference. -
I use a switch to cut off my fuel pump (console mounted) and a battery cut-off (similar to one on the race car) that is located on the firewall. I use that as my anti-theft devise. I take the red handled "key" and place it on my key chain when I park it in places that worry me.

Too often we throw around HP numbers (stock by year and model) and it was nice to see their dyno rwhp numbers for an L24 engine in stock mode. Not bad for a car that listed as having 150hp@crank. For me, that means I've added 117 more rwhp with my NA 3.2L L28 in a '72. A turbo would likely done better but I like the sound of the triple 44mms as they open up and the quick response time from foot to foot pounds. -
New Urethane Rear Control Arm Bushings Clunk After 6 Months
gnosez replied to Miles's topic in Suspension & Steering
If you have tightened up everything else, it could be either a loose center cap on that wheel or a blown shock. I've had both problems and the center cap is sure easier (and cheaper) for remedy. -
Not only am I old enough to remember seeing these cars, I'm old enough to have bough a 260 from Bob in '74 and had him do the "GT-race this weekend" package before I took it home. I would see the GT-33 versions being prepped when I would drop off or pick up by Z for servicing in 75 and 76. Of course Bob would also sell you a nearly complete Z in FG or you could buy the molds to make your own. I remember that poster at Road Atlanta too.

Ummmm....I'm running a stroker crank in a '75 engine block (3.2L) and it runs real, real strong w/44mm Mikunis.

Engine Bay with Triple Webers and Interior Shot...
gnosez replied to Mr.Woof's72z's topic in Introductions and Rides
I agree, a heat shield or header wrap will help a lot (along with a return line so the fuel is kept cool at idle). But not having horns is a very, very big mistake. All you need is a 3/8 radius to make those carbs much better. As to webers burning up, I can't say, but my 44mm Mikunis have yet to disappoint over the last 4 years. Pretty much set-um and forget-em. -

Where's the return line??? -
I have seen a 1970 Canadian dealership marketing document showing an early (pre-production) 240 that had NO side pillar 240 emblems. It also had no radio or antenna.
