  3. I would recommend an electric fuel pump wired to a relay once you upgrade those carbs. Simple enough to do. If you're using rubber fuel lines spend a little more for EFI rubber. Total overkill but worth it. The adjustable cam sprocket is nice but not necessary. As to the block, the N42 has more meat but that doesn't make the F54 a bad choice, it just means that for the money I would stay away from a full on 3.2L motor. Of course you might say, but it's a street not a race car and yet once you feel the joy of that right foot you might just do it again and again til something breaks. Why and what would break it? Lack of fuel, overheating, a mistake in the build (piston to wall gap, main not line bored, crank off, timing wrong), and that right foot.
  4. I've had several L-series engines ranging from a 2.4up to the present 3.2L running on 114 octane with a CR of 13.7:1 and think that anything over 2.9 needs more air then a stock set of SUs can deliver. Bored out for a 2.9 or 3.0 the SUs are fine but over that 40mm and up to 50mm are more in line. As to the use of the F54 block, you might find it interesting to note that Rebello got around to actually measuring the amount of wall material in 280Z and 280ZX blocks and found that if you want to go to big you don't want the F54 block for an NA application.
  5. The BSR280ZXTT old wheel (they went to a bigger rim size due to a lack of available tires two years ago) with the BBS wheel and brake vane cover. Last person to run this tire was Steve Millen at The Glen with SVRA.
  6. Looks like normal Monday morning traffic in any city in the U.S. but with better drivers...
  7. I'm about to go in the opposite direction by bracing the firewall itself. The idea of installing an adjustable "stop" at the end of the MC is an interesting way to solve this problem. We've taken out the booster, MC and pedal box and have a Wilwood set-up that has to be modified to complete the installation. Will post pics after the Holidays....
  8. I am now sold on CarboTech pads for my 240 race car and I'm in the process of getting some truck pads made up.
  9. I am wondering why at this point in time did Black Dragon see that the Z parts market is no longer viable? Did Black Dragon see a massive drop-off in demand? Did they face more competition? Does every Z owner have all the parts they need? Or was something wrong with the business model at Black Dragon? And is this a start of a trend?
  10. Not that I know of as he was driving the back-up car a few months later when Bob had another wreck in which he broke his wrist. This ended his career. His crew says he was doing over 155 mph at Atlanta when his rear tire went flat. The way Bob describes it, it was like the car was in reverse and then it flipped. Bob says he remembers every second as he rolled. I got lucky a few years back and was able to purchase a trailer load of BSR parts, some of which came from the wrecked GTU car
  11. One man's stiff ride is another man's not so stiff. We could get the car up on a rack and conduct all kinds of tests on shocks, springs, suspension travel, etc but in the end it's all in your hands, butt and mind as to how the car feels to you and you alone. I run 250 and 250 (F/R) GC coil-over springs and a mid setting on the Tokico HTS shocks . The car has TTT LCAs and TC rods and in the back I run Arizona Z Car RCAs. Poly everywhere else, including the steering coupler and ST front and rear sway bars with 245/45/16s all around w/2 degrees of negative camber. Roll bar with added cross brace for shoulder harness and triangular front strut brace. And of course BDP frame rails. Were the coil-overs worth the price. For me, absolutely. My Z, my ride. The next owner can always put in softer springs and dial back the shocks, replace some of the poly and run the car at a higher stance. The ability to make adjustments to me was critical. Stiff? Yes. The race car has 400# springs, a higher shock setting and a full cage but basically the same set-up save for the LCAs as they are stock in keeping with the rules. Stiffer than the street 240? Yes. One of the fastest drivers I know had a 240 that I wouldn't drive to get milk in as it was so loose I feared the rear end would come around if I blinked. Having been under the car assisting with some needed repairs, I doubted whether it would pass an actual road-worthy inspection (ball joints, tie rods, worn bushings, etc.) but was he ever so fast in it.
  12. There were a number of similar facia inserts available at least in Japan back in the day. I'm pretty sure those three holes are for the side air ducts and the last one would lead to the carbs.
  13. Those tire pressures seem very high, like 10-12psi too high. I run Potenzas 245/45/16 all around on my 240 at 32 psi. Very good street tires but not so great track tires. Track tires will give you better traction but at the cost of stress throughout the suspension and body. Be warned.
  14. I'm running 16x9 with 245s all around and coilovers and they just fit because the fronts are at 2 degrees negative and the rears have a small custom flare at 2 degrees as well.
  15. Sorry, been up at Watkins Glen racing. Other than flipping the cages, the stock CVs will not cause any issues even if you have a lowered S30 body Z.
  16. Captain, you have an excellent point and for those with less understanding of the "why" behind that pin it is a useful item. Stock suspension, stock parts, no brainer on the install. Me, I like a free, unrestricted suspension, that won't bind. Before the AR Z Car RCAs, I used a threaded rod on the street Z and for the race car the TTT RCAs come with a threaded rod to replace the spindle pin and a set of washers that allow for someone to input another adjustable point when setting up your ride.
  17. As the President of the ZCCNE, let me personally welcome you to the local Z community. Our members did very well at the recent ZCON in Toronto and we look forward to seeing you (and your Z) soon.
