  1. The three bolt stock insulator slotted is simple and easy to do. You don't have to trim the insulator unless unless you find you need to. The race car has the tops slotted and we get -2.5 but we ground down one side of the insulator.
  2. After I dig ourselves out from over 2-ft of snow today I'll see what I can do about pictures. Slotting if easy to do. You drill a hole down about 0.75 from the original hole and then wiz wheel the rest of the metal off. Our race car just has slots in the rear but we do have coil-overs and the TTT RCAs. The smaller top of the strut allows up to nearly -4 degrees camber but we usually only run around -3. The top insulator will restrict all the potential movement you can get by slotting and this can be solved by grinding and cutting that if you want more camber. Even without doing this -1.5 is possible. Adjustable RCA bushings will let you dial in toe. I run between 0 and 1/16.
  3. EuroDat - No real caster adjustment available but you can get almost 1.5 degrees negative camber. Slotting the shock tower tops will give you closer to -2 without camber plates. Used them in both the LCA and RCAs on my street 240 before going over the TTT ones. Look over on the Hybridz.org site under "suspension" for alignment. SledZ - sorry if after reading your post and seeing that you ran your tires bald that some sort of suggestion regarding alignment might be in order. Drive on......
  4. Hybridz.org (suspension section) Have Arizona Z rears in my street 240 and TTT rears in the 240 race car. Both work great.
  5. Where in western NC are you located? Headed to Asheville on Sunday.
  6. Three suggestions. Get an alignment done (repeat this suggestion twice more).
  7. Books are nice. Actual race track experience is a tad better.
  8. Nope. We have had a set of them on our 240 race car for the past 10 yrs with no issues whatsoever. BTW, I have 3 sets of new aluminum drums sitting on the shelf.
  9. Those rear mounts could have been from any number of other Datsun vehicles.
  10. The original rear mounts had two holes and when we made a replacement version we kept the two hole option. It would allow you to move the seat farther forward (shorter legs?). Thanks for the plug by the way (Bad Dog Parts - frame rails and 240 seat brackets)!
  11. Mike W - sorry for the delay (on a plane and then over to the hotel). Since you don't have to worry about the fuel pump that's taken care of, the bracket for the lower bolt has been covered, you will need to make up a different top bracket (I made mine longer) and it will be hit or miss on the belt itself until you get one that works for your set-up. Changing the pulley diameter helps. I went over to a local auto electrical shop and they can make any one-wire GM style alternator you want in whatever amperage. They also carried different covers including chrome. Their prices were cheaper than MSA and others. I like to try and shop local since I have a 40 yr old car and I will need help for some other problem in the future. BTW, my lower bracket was bought 10yrs ago as a custom replacement (no cutting) but I'm can't recall the name of the seller.
  12. I've had an MSD box and a Pertonix set-up on my L28 for over 10 yrs with no issues at all. My spark plugs have the same profile after 5 or 10,000 miles. I have it wired so it can be switched back just in case the MSD box goes and have experienced the difference just to see what it was like. In normal driving I couldn't feel a thing but in hard driving (up to the 90% of the rev limit in each gear) it has a smooth feel and a sense of a bit more power. Worth the money? Good question. I bought this set-up 10 yrs ago so that money is long gone. My engine is far from stock and has a GM one wire 105 amp alternator. Where are you in MA?

  14. Really depends on what you plan on doing with the car and what's in your wallet. An aftermarket ZX tranny rebuild kit goes for less than $100. but I'm not sure what an OEM kit costs. How you drive your car is more important to the life of the tranny than the parts you install, IMHO. I have driven 30,000 hard miles with a few track days thrown in and could go another 30,000 but I rebuild mine if I have the engine out and it's been more than 4 yrs regardless of the miles driven.
  15. Silicone caulk (clear) works just fine.
  16. Was at Paul Russell's shop this afternoon and saw the 1947 two seater Spider Corsa being rebuilt and a 1956 Testa Rossa being taken apart so that it can be rebuilt to 1956 Le Mons race specs. A similar car sold in 2010 for $16MM. The 1947 was the first Ferrari race car brought over to the U.S. All race cars change over time. A 1963 Elva re-tubed five times with all new body parts still retains the same builder/factory number.
  17. You've spent your time (and money) it seems very wisely......
  18. I have the Arizona Z Car RCAs in my street 240 (20,000 miles) and the TTT in our 240 race car (2 years with over 15 track days). If you plan on going the CV route I would suggest the AZ version as it allows you a lot more adjustability. That said it takes longer to get right.
  19. Style and concept points - 100!! Imagination - 100!! Workmanship 100!! Airflow design - not so good. The reason the TM box is slanted towards the back is so the back carbs have the same air velocity as the one in front. An internal baffle would allow you to get this effect without having to change your design. I would also consider shorter velocity stacks/horns.
  20. My 240 has them too but then I took a set off a 280 and redid the connectors. I've stripped maybe 60 S30 Zs and they have and don't have the same side marker lights on each corner.

Alan - can you provide information on what portions of the Laurel were incorporated into the Z (suspension, engines, any interior trim, etc.)? I wonder how many ever made it over to the U.S. and if any remain in operational shape today. Pictures of the C130 have me interested in learning more.

All non-Z cars will be entered in People's Choice but if enough of any other Datsun/Nissan/Infinity vehicles register we will get a 1st and 2nd place trophy for them (GTR/roadster/510/pickup/Patrols/Gs....).
  23. Rubber gaskets on 240Z? On 280Zs, yes. I'm guessing there are hundreds of good quality used side marker lights out there for sale.
  24. Spend the day wet sanding the 240 race car prior to being painting in the BSR livery and test mounted the flared front fenders. Needs about a 100 hrs of more work to get it paint worthy.
