  1. Modified car, modified engine. Enhanced suspension and brakes means I can add HP/torque without unbalancing the car. Think race car but usable on the street. That and the fact my bored and stroked L28 (now 3.2L) NA motor makes 315 HP @ crank. A similar L24 engine making the same or even more HP (can be done w/right head, etc.) would likely have a 16:1 compression ratio and a life of just a few hours. But the real answer is simple. It makes my 240 go real fast in a very short period of time. That and the sound of those triple 44mm Mikunis opening up as the exhaust gets louder. But each to his/her own.
  2. Not meant to do the testing you have in mind (engine intake leaks),
  3. Back at the '03 Z convention I had a friend's wife ask me to ride along with her on the track and as she came up to a hard left turn following a long straight (100+mph), she hit the brakes, they grabbed and I ended up under the dash board. The 280 had won first place in DD the day before at the car show and the seats were all covered in Armour Oil. I then took her out in my 240 which has Corbra racing seats and 5-pt harnesses. Staying pinned in your seat is the first step in being able to concentrate on driving your car on a race track. If you need to reposition yourself after every turn or use the wheel for leverage you can't pay attention to what happens next. Glad to hear you had a great time out on the track and hope you continue to take your Z out so others can see what a beauty they were and still are.
  4. If you want S30 stuff I can drive down a Hi-Cube and bring several hundred parts to the convention. Show some interest and I'll make it happen.
  5. Hotel room already booked...
  6. Want to lower your car then don't get lowering springs get coil-overs and do it right the first time. Been there done that....oh, and my car now sits under 6 inches at the rockers and 3 inches off the ground at the oil pan.
  7. Mike B - my reply was informational only. There are many people who don't understand the selection process. I for one wish we could do a regional rotation so that a convention is held near each Z owner every 3-5 yrs. That would require more clubs to step up and host. But even with a system such as that, someone will end up driving long distances to get to one. I have missed one in the last 10 yrs and that was because I was on assignment overseas. Of those, I flew and drove the wizz out of the rental cars I got, at 3 of them. It would have been nice to have my Z there but it's the people that keep me coming back. My apologies if my earlier post was poorly written.
  8. So I guess you wouldn't have driven or towed a Z more than 1300 miles to go to 2010 ZCON? Eight of us did from New England and many more drove down from Canada but Seattle to Phoenix is an added 200 miles. I see several options: 1) drive or tow your Z 2) fly to the convention 3) get a closer Z club to host a convention 4) wait for pictures to be posted of other Z folks enjoying themselves There is no east vs west coast bias in selecting convention locations but rather a limited number of clubs willing to step up and take on the task of putting one on. I'd fly to Seattle if you held one there.
  9. Don't start it up, period. Remove coil wire, put more air in the tires, top off all fluids and leave the key alone. Restart the car with the coil wire off until you have oil pressure. Then reconnect, bleed the tire pressure back down to normal and start. Now change the oil.
  10. One item of discussion at our annual club winter meeting is this year's ZCON event. We had 10 members come down from New England in '10 and we want at least 15 for this one. With some luck we can bring down the BSR/Newman 280ZXTT and the Tom Cruise 300ZX as well.

    260 Glove Box

    OEM -paper or plastic?
  12. Installing a large rear sway bar without increasing your front bar will provide you with some fun times this coming driving season. But way before you install the bar, which is a good idea on a street car, the issue of shocks and springs needs to be addressed. Just replacing whatever you have with a set of 5-way adjustable and non-progressive, linear springs (my own $00.02) should give you a firm but nice ride feel. Replacing the old rubber bushings with poly (except the steering coupler) will make your 240 feel like a whole new car. As to driving your Z up here in MA, my 240 sits on 275lb springs w/Tokico HTS shocks, ALL poly (coupler too), large sway bars, coilovers and is all of 5.75 inches at the rockers. Stiff? Yes. Ride? Like a flipping dream, but each to his/her own style and comfort level.
  13. Heat and bend lever into the necessary shape to clear the console.
  14. We got just under 200whp in our race 240 with a dual 50mm throttle body intake on an L28, a mid-range cam, little if any head work and 30 over pistons. Ignition trigger via megasquirt, Town and Country coilpack and Aerostar ignitor. Same engine with Jim Cook supercharger made over 220whp. New engine w/BSR race head should make over 240whp. But the costs from 150 to 200hp are $$, from 200-230 $$$$, and over 230 are $$$$$ (I have one of those NA 314 crank hp Rebello motors that make over 250rwhp and if I had to I couldn't afford to buy it again if it blows up). Go turbo, save a few dollars and make over 300rwhp....
  15. Is your airdam deforming in your avatar picture?? Urethane?
  16. Most of the aero tips can't be used in SCCA or vintage racing sad to say. We just removed the MSA Type II airdam, the blocked off grill areas, the radiator shroud, etc. to make our 240 fit VRG and SVRA rules.
  17. Triple SUs? Okay. What fuel pressure? Is 230 the coolant temp? If yes you have issues. We have run for nearly 6 hrs with only refueling stops and not overheated our 240.
  18. Well first I suggest you spend the next week or two researching Zs and all related racing info. If you don't know what a "b" tranny is then you need to do some catching up. So here's a freebie - there are a number of 5-spds but for most people they break down into a few simple types; 1) 77-79 "a" 2) 80-83 "b" - for me there is a subset for the '80 tranny which I prefer 3) turbo BW 4) Z32 w/adapter plate 5) truck, SX and others All this info and more is out there. Spend some quality time getting up to speed (no pun intended) and then ask more detailed questions. Most of the things you want can be found a click or two away.
  19. Pertonix and an MSD box will fix that dizzy issue for good. Then megasquirt if you plan on EFI. Where are you driving that you need 5th gear??? In the past 7 yrs I have had our 240 in 5th maybe a dozen times at best. With the current engine (185hp@rwhs) we topped out at 135mph. The new engine will add another 50 rwhp so maybe we'll get into 5th more often. By close ratio do you mean a 280b tranny? If yes, then fill w/ half Swepco and and ATF. Remove welded diff, get LSD or Quaife (3:90 gears for all around track use). Install RT mount. Replace 1/2 shafts w/ZXT CVs and 280 stub axles. Z31 calipers and Porterfield pads in front, Porterfield shoes in the rear. Engine cooling and oil pressure are your best friend. Plan accordingly. Please provide more info on your car's specs.
  20. That switch is mounted under the booster and is not the prop valve. That is in-line between the rear wheels. For those that have installed larger calipers, a 280 booster and a 15/16 MC makes the pedal respond much better. You would need to drill new holes to match the bolts on the 280 booster. Not easy but a step drill will have it done in a few minutes. You will like the results.
  21. Changes gear ratios unless you match overall tire diameter, adds rake to stance, and makes a tire change difficult should you ever get a flat. Been done before, on S30 cars for racing purposes but then it was 14 and 15 inch wheels. See Burton Brown's land speed record 240Z.
  22. Hi - I am interested in finding information on any current race series with either 350 or 370Zs that run in Japan.

Here in the USA they run events called the "Cayman Interseries" using Porsche 996/997 that have modified by a dealer. Here are the links to the series and the car build sheet:

    http://www.napletonmotorsports.com/services.html

    http://www.napletonmotorsports.com/Cayman-Build.html

If 350/370Zs race in Japan is there a build sheet for them as well?

Thank you very much in advance for any time you might spend researching this.

I hope to convince a Nissan dealer and a race organization to build entry level race cars.

Your help can make it happen.

    Happy New Year -

    John Jeffery (gnosez)
