Fuel pump problem?
Nothing like that thread, the lines are clean and ungunked. Besides, it won't start with the new fuel supply line in the gas can. We let it run for about 2 minutes on the starter fluid with the new line/gas can, and still wouldn't stay running. Fuel literally trickles out of the filter inlet like a faucet that is almost shut off. Could their be a problem with both carbs not letting fuel get into the jets? That wouldn't explain the trickling fuel filter though. It sat for about 6 months, but he started and ran it occasionally.

Fuel pump problem?
Ok guys, picked up my 72 240 today and already started working on it. The Good; has the round top SU's on it (built before 9/72 i guess), and the Single point distributor (prime pertronix conversion). The bad; Won't start. Checked ignition that's good. Fuel looks real filthy in the fuel filter, but no gum/gunk in the lines. Sprayed starter fluid in the intakes and she fired up one crank! But then she dies. It's running on the starter fluid only. Here's my question: I stuck the feed hose in a tank of clean gas with a new filter. If you look at the clear filter it looks like the gas is barely being sucked in by the Fuel pump. You literally see it trickling into the filter. I have no experience with mechanical F pumps, is this normal or is my pump bad? I would think the filter would be full of fuel and you wouldn't see any air in there to even see it tricke in. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Jay

Reliable/powerful L24?
Thanks guys for the great responses! This is exactly the type of info i was looking for. I don't think i want to invest that kind of money for the output of the L24. So i'll probably yank it, put it aside, and save for a L28 or RB swap. No sense investing $ when i know i wont be happy with the end power result. Although i think i'll buy that book anyway, i'm always looking to learn new tricks. It's funny, I'm just coming off the 2.0L 4G63T motor in my Galant VR4. Although it's turbocharged, that little 2.0 cranked out ~370HP with basic bolt on's. I just can't believe a N/A 6 could make so little HP. Thanks again, and i'll be posting again i'm sure.

Reliable/powerful L24?
Well this is why i'm asking these questions. Oviously i'm not an idiot and realize that tripples and and ignition will not make 300HP. That's why i said 200-300. I am trying to find out info on these motors, their best modifications, their weaknesses, what gains are there to be had with tripples, ect. I found none of that in your reply.

Reliable/powerful L24?
Hi guys, I've been working on cars for almost 10 years now, and have owned/worked on Mustangs, GalantVR4's, 300ZXTT's, but I'm new to the 240Z/ L series engine/carburation, and i have a few questions. I've been doing a lot of searching and haven't found the answers i'm looking for so i thought i'd post my questions. Can the L24 be a powerful/reliable engine? Every thread i come upon says to use an L28 block, yada, yada. But they don't ever say why. What is the weakness of the L24? I'm picking up a 72 240Z tomorrow and it has the original L24 in it with double SU's. It runs like crap now and wont barely start (needs a tune up, ect). My original intent was to do a Hybrid-V8, RB motor, ect. But since the car is original, and swaps wind up costing a lot of money, i'd like to tune the L24 to make some decent reliable power. Is this posible or am i wasting my time? If i rebuild the SU's and do the Pertrox electronic ignition, can i make some decent reliable power? (200-300 HP range) Are triple webers a better setup? I have a guy that wants to sell me a triple weber setup (manifold/45mmcarbs) for $300. Is that a good deal? Sorry for so many questions in one thread. Your help is greatly appreciated. I look forward to posting here and getting to know some of you. Thanks, Jay

Any info on this? I'm curious as well. Need to either rebuild my SU's or go FI. Any suggestions?

For Sale: 1971 240z
Hi, This is my first post, but i have been browsing this site for a few months now, searching for the right 240Z. I believe that search may be over. I have sent you an email already, but in case you don't get it i thought i'd respond here. Is their any rust? What are you looking to get for it? Origional 4 speed? Besides the paint and chrome problems, is their anything else wrong with the vehicle? I'd like to see some recent pics as well. Do you have a problem shipping it, i'm on the east coast. You can send a response to Jayru187@ptd.net Thanks, Jay
