  1. The car would be a 200SX Turbo probably 1985 or 1986.
  2. As stated above, I've been a Greg Ira fan for years and have helped him with advice and parts for years. He's been carrying the S30 torch in FP far longer then anyone.
  3. I you're asking this question, don't buy the car. Your expectation are unrealistic for a car built 40+ years ago. That being said the S30 is a fairly safe chassis. The offset impact shown above is pretty serious for anyone if the cars are traveling 40mph or more regardless of the year of manufacture. http://www.roadandtrack.com/features/web-originals/features-web-originals-anatomy-of-a-high-speed-car-crash?src=spr_TWITTER&spr_id=1459_12900271
  4. A magnetic level makes it much easier to drill things straight.
  5. Blue's first estimate was weight with driver. His estimate is good for the car without driver.
  6. To answer your first post, no. An early 1970 with no fuel can come in mid-2200s without driver. SCCA assumes this for a racing ITS 240Z and assignes its minimum weight as 2345 with driver. My January 1970 came in at 2290. In typical ITS prep with a CF hood and hatch the same car came in at 2120. Weight distribution is typically 52/48.
  7. Ride harshness has more to do with shock compression damping, tire sidewall height and air pressure (remember, a tire is a spring with a rate around 1,000 lb. in), and bushing compliance (especially the longitudinal compliance of the TC rod bushings). My racing 240Z with 375 to 400+ lb. in. springs and Penske triple shocks was described as "cat like" in how it rode and felt.
  8. Although few will care... never use the wheel well arches to measure ride height. Use the bottom horizontal surface of the rocker panels.
  9. A timely article: http://jalopnik.com/why-drivers-still-die-in-racing-crashes-563200728
  10. Have you done any wheel to wheel road racing? I suspect not. Those that have raced and want to win know what you posted above is ignorance. Racing is about exploring the limits of man and machine against a group of like minded others in the same place at the same time. To do that its necessary to go beyond your limits and the limits of the machine while those around you are doing the exact same thing. Watch Senna to get a vague idea of how far one man will go to win road racing. Given that, its very important to have limits to protect, at a minimum, spectators, crew, track officials, etc. Its also, just as import, to have limits to protect the drivers from themselves. This shows a lack of understanding of the regulations, the drivers, and the risk. Get out of your Lazy Boy, get a comp license, and get on the track.
  11. If its a clsoe ratio direct drive comp box its worth at least $3,500.
  12. Safety. Cars are too fast for most race circuits as it is. Since Senna's death in 1994 safety improvements and performance limitations have kept F1 drivers alive. No deaths since then.
  13. I missed your post above. Glad its fixed.
  14. A lot of SnapOn tools are made in China now. Betamotorsports got started welding specialty automotive hand tools for a SnapOn supplier. USA made for 50 years and then the MBAs took over at SnapOn. Price and inventory pressure from the MBAs forced the manufacturer to build in China because my $25 an hour rate to weld the parts was 800% higher then the rate in China. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We are a WalMart nation and its one reason I now work mostly on Porsches instead of Datsuns. Unfortunately the Datsun folks squeeze a penny pretty tight.
  15. BTW... if one of the Google ads thrown up on Hybridz has a virus link Avast will display that warning. Dan talks about a solution using Google's DNS here: Avast Antivirus is blocking hbz? - Site Support - HybridZ
  16. Spamming is rampant and a big issue for folks that run web sites. This site and most others run various forms of anti-spam software and ISPs do the same. Every day the software used on Hybridz blocks hundreds of spam attempts. We also have checks on user signups, an authentication process, and blocking based on known spammer IPs. Even then, we get about a dozen spammers a day who get through all of this. We try not to ban legit users but sometimes that happens. Again, we all have days jobs and try to manage the site in our spare time.
  17. We checked, no virus. False warning from Avast which sometimes occurs for a few users after a board software update. The OP's post about the virus warning on Hybridz had a link to a site in Russia that was flagged by the anti-spam software and also manually by a couple other users. That's why he was banned.
  18. With the car on the ground, loosen the front lower control arm bolts and roll the car forward and back and bounce on the rocker sills. Then tighten the lower control arm bolts to spec with the car on the ground..
  19. You can't just cut one corner and expect a major change on an end of a car. What's happening is the right rear is helping to hold the right front up (sounds crazy but its true - diagonal corner weights and all that).
  20. Your fuel pump is not keeping up, float levels are too low, fuel filter slightly clogged, or the fuel tank venting system is not working properly.
  21. As mentioned above, Magnesium and Aluminum age (or work) harden over time. Magnesium much more so. Powder coating, where the wheels are heated to 400F to cure the coating will accelerate the process because that's how AL and MG are artificially aged when wrought. Heat Treating of Magnesium Alloys :: KEY to METALS Articles
  22. Most likely the car was hit on one side and the body was repainted incorrectly. Unless things are really screwed up, its rare to have asymmetrical rear track. Any wheel spacers installed?
