  1. Use a Scotchbrite pad. Sandpaper damages the gasket surface.
  2. The Cosmo setup is fine for what your intended use is. It leaves a bit on the table when it comes to adjustability and adpatabiliy but that's really not needed for a street car.
  3. Sounds like your tech guys are ****heads. I have never seen the CalClub tech (of which I was in charge for a bunch of years) every take issue with a missing emblem. Those kinds of issues are left to the competitors to work our on their own or through the protest process.
  4. Any aftermarket coil over setup can be used with stock length struts.
  5. If you're trying to compete in D Stock then yes, you need stock (or stock equivalent) parts. All of those stock or stock equivalent parts are available to build a 240Z to run in D Stock. We have a couple here in Cal Club that legally run in D Stock. What most likely happened is that you added a couple non-stock 240Z parts (like maybe those rims on your picture which are 1/2" wider then stock) so your car gets classes accordingly. SCCA's Solo2 classing systems doesn't exist to make any marque specific group happy. There is no guarantee your car will be competitive but they do guarantee a place to compete. And the 240Z is still reasonably competitive in Street Prepared and in the new Street Touring categories, although no one is really trying in those categories anymore. Its still the dominant car in FP.
  6. Pull the valve cover and check for loose rocker arms, broken valve springs, or obvious bent valves. Pull the spark plugs and check their condition. Do a compression check.
  7. The make and model listing on the vehicle title determines whether it is a "Datsun 240Z" (or 260, 280Z). Everything else is just emotional fluff.
  8. Its a Nissan service repair done back in the 1970s to resolve noise and vibration complaints.
  9. Works fine for me at 2,500 rpm. Unisyns have been useless above 1,000 rpm for me. Make sure the radiator fan isn't blowing air into the sides of the unit and make sure you have a good seal against the carb inlet. There are also different flow versions of the Synchrometer. The SK flows up to 30 kg/h and the BK flows up to 35 kg/h. They also sell a bypass adapter that lets in a set amount of air for those engines that flow above the limits of the meter.
  10. You can take a stock 240Z and race it on the track. The stock spring rates and damping are fine for a race track. The real question is whether these springs and the KYB shocks will make you quicker around a race track the the stock springs and shocks? They will certainly not make you any faster then a proper track setup with shortened struts, better shocks then the KYBs, higher spring rates, etc. But they will most likely be better then stock for most folks who occasionally do track days. Except.... those spring rates (279 lb. in. front and 335 lb. in. rear) are way above the rates the KYB shocks will support in rebound. Keep an eye on your shocks and watch for oil leakage and a floaty feeling after bumps. That will tell you the rebound stack has failed.
  11. Check the HybridZ thread above.
  12. Exactly! I have never used metal lock nuts on the intake or exhaust of any of my street or racing Datsuns. And I don't install them on customer cars unless the customer specifically asks for them. A regular M8 class 10.9 nut with a new split ring lock washer (every time) and I've never had an exhaust leak caused by the nuts working loose.
  13. Cut the rear quarters above the c pillar seam and on the inside of the car. The idea is to leave some extra metal so whomever you sell them to can cut them to fit. They are worth anywhere from $300 to $500 each if they are in good shape. Cutting them out isn't as easy as it appears.
  14. Carbs need a venturi effect to work properly. As you increase the choke size you decrease the venturi effect and the carbs are less accurate/responsive at smaller throttle openings. If its a race car then 40's with 36mm chokes will work fine. But on a street car they tend to stumble and run poorly when most of the time the carb is running at part throttle. 32mm chokes are about the limit for a nice running 40 on the street.
  15. Yes, they did stop taking orders for the Nissan L6 header. I tried to buy the tooling but they wanted way too much for it.
  16. The original sensor was probably a temp sensor that triggered a warning light on the center console. Cats don't normally do much for sound reduction.
  17. Thanks for the referral. Unfortunately I fired Tokico. Hopefully they've got their act together and be sure to open the boxes immediately, inspect the shocks, and make sure you have the right gland nut, shock nut, and optional spacer.
  18. You need to drive the car mote, a lot more. There probably isn't anything wrong, it just needs get up to temp and be run for an hour or more at speed on the roads.
  19. How many (if any) quarts of oil do you need to add between oil changes? How many miles between oil changes?
  20. No, just saying where they were installed on the production line by Nissan. You can buy that item separately from a Nissan dealer and a lot of racers do (or did).
  21. You find those shields in the front R180 diff on the Nissan 720 4x4 pickups.
  22. Go here and read up: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/39435-help-what-brake-options-are-available-for-s30-z-cars/ And the S13W caliper requires a rotor 25mm wide. Finding a 4 lug rotor that wide is a challenge. The more commonly used S12W caliper requires a 22mm caliper which works with the readily available 300ZX rotor.
