  1. 'Nuff said... I've bought probably 100 tires from Tire Rack over the years and always got exactly what I ordered, delivered on time for about $10 per tire. That's cheaper then the sales tax here in CA. I've got a local Big O Tire store that mounts and balances the tires for $10 each if they are "normal tires". My race tires are mounted and balanced for $20 each because it takes two guys to get a new 285/30-18 V710 stretched over a 10" wide rim.
  2. The US Post Office is the best for normal sized boxes and I've shipped dozens of parts to Australia using them. Tracking is impossible once it leaves the US but none of my shipments have ever been lost. I also use BAX Global for larger shipments. Their service is outstanding and they've never damaged or lost a thing in 5 years of shipping hoods and hatches around the world.
  3. Man, I've tried to post in this thread for the past week and it keeps failing. Hopefully this one works... My simple dual spring example above is wrong because I didn't take into account that one of the keys in calculating spring rate is number of free coils. Jeff's calcualtion is more accurate. Here's the calc I'm using now to come up with dual spring rate numbers: Ko = Overall rate K1 = First spring K2 = Second spring Ko = (K1 * K2) / (K1 + K2) This is an approximate calculation but its close enough for our use. It comes up with a spring rate of 166.67 lb. in. for the combined 500/250 spring in my example. That's assuming equal height springs. If one spring is shorter then the other, the calculation gets skewed in favor of the longer spring.
  4. I don't really have a material or cutting list. I just kind of make 'em as the need arises.
  5. Correct. IMSA GTU rules required a car running a L26 or a L28 to be a 260 or a 280Z in appearance.
  6. I'm saving that UK address. Thanks Alan.
  7. Les at Classic Datsun (760) 940-6365 or Lawrence Evans at Star Motorsports/Motormec in the UK +44 1530 812218.
  8. I was pretty happy with this setup on my street 240Z.
  9. I borrowed a genuine Nissan factory pilot bearing removal tool.
  10. Roller pilot bearings are really only needed when regularly shifting past 7,500 rpm. I tried a few on the Rusty Old Datsun and hated 'em. Went back to the OEM bronze bearing and didn't notice any difference. This is how the bearings typically looked after I removed them:
  11. The names of my Zs over the years: The Purple Car The Rusty Old Datsun The Mule The Roach The White Car The Tree Fiddy Zee None of them had a gender, all were (are) gender neutral machines.
  12. He's correct. And most folks who have chrome air cleaners just let the vent hoses dangle and point down at the exhaust manifold. Regading air horns, the factory ones and the full radius TWM ones work with the TWM ones having an advantage if running ITG or another type of open element air cleaner. The stock air horns have a slight advantage over the TWMs if you're running the stock air cleaner or a closed top kind of aftermarket unit (K&N). BTW... the factory air cleaner with the OEM air horns flows better then the K&Ns without air horns, but neither are as good as the ITGs with the TWM air horns.
  13. IMSA GTU rules were loosley based on FIA Group 4 specs but were modified year-to-year to meet racing requirements in the US. Modification allowances early in the history of IMSA almost exactly matched FIA Group 4 specs but by the late 1970s IMSA rules had morphed so far that non-FIA homologated cars were competing and many IMSA GTO and AAGT cars were eligible for SCCA's TransAm series. So, the answer to your question is: Both.
  14. Ita hard to tell much from a video, but body roll is less then the Track 350Z and understeer appears to be less. There does seem to be a lot of pitch on the car and it looks like it can still hike the inside rear wheel, which is typical of the 350Z. The proof is in the driving.
  15. Sounds like a great car. I'm going to have to find a "student" with one at the next track event I'm instructing at.
  16. I use the term "randomly adjusting."
  17. Having driven a Caymen S and my own 2006 base 350Z on a race track, I can only cough "bullshit" when referring to track comparison aspects of that article.
  18. Are you sure? Did you measure the ride height at the rocker panels before and after? The EMI camber plates by themselves will lower a car 1" compared to the factory rubber spring isolators.
  19. I have a certified set of the FIA docs also and I've got a page showing certification for the G-nose as of Sept. 1971. The document numbers are: FIA homol. No: 3023 Amendment: 5/5V JAF: GT-010 V-5 46.12.31
  20. Or, just a thought, maybe buy the proper spanner wrench: http://www.mcmaster.com/ctlg/DisplCtlgPage.aspx?ReqTyp=CATALOG&CtlgPgNbr=2696&term=Gland%2bNut%2bWrenches&sesnextrep=890573254424949&ScreenWidth=1024&McMMainWidth=758 Just a cazy idea ya know; using the proper tool for the job.
  21. Yeah, that's Coop's old car. It went end-over-end 6 times at Sears Point then burned. He sold it to Mark who put it hard into the pit wall at Thunderhill when they ran an event backwards. He ended up cutting the car in half and welding on a new front. Mark sold it to Tom K who used it as a circle track/demolition derby car for 3 years. Looks a lot nicer then the last time I saw it... Just kidding...
  22. Looks crazy, didn't work. I ended up cutting it up and using the aluminum for other projects.
  23. If its got the original N42 block and head its worth the current bid price of $500 just for those parts alone.
  24. There should be no color difference if the panels are painted at the some time using the same paint batch. Below is a shot of a full carbon fiber hood on my old 240Z painted with Toyota Super White 2. The fenders have the same paint color but they were painted about 4 years earlier.
