  1. That is not a Nissan or approved dealer installed part. Someone added it in your car's life to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Throw it away, you're better off without it.
  2. FYI... don't expect any repro floor pans to fit perfectly. They will need some work to get them to fit correctly. That's true for pans for a S30, a 1969 Camaro, a 1966 Mustang, a 1972 Beetle, etc.
  3. Either block is fine. Pick the one in the best condition.
  4. The Japanese manufacturers were already interested in statistical process control through their study of the work of Walter Shewart. What Deming did was to teach and help them focus that interest on their manufacturing processes and management techniques.
  5. $7,500 for my sequential 5 speed and that included straight cut gears, the dog ring option, custom ratios, the gear indicator display I ran where the speedo was, an "A" box bellhousing, and the custom machined adapter plate.

I can understand that because those efforts were supported by Nissan Motorsports USA and Nissan Marketing USA with very little help from Nissan Motorsports Japan. But then they take credit for the IMSA GTP Championship win in 1988. Now I call bull****. Those efforts were supported by budget from Nissan marketing USA through a corporation they created called Nissan Performance Technologies, Inc. (the old Electramotive). Nissan Motorsports USA also used what little they had of their budget to help develop some of the parts involved. The bulk of the effort came from private companies (Electramotive, Lola, Tilton Engineering, T-Mag, Bondio Fab, and others.) The body was designed by Nissan in Japan but built here. Per many of the people involved, NISMO actually got in the way of the effort and tried to kill it for internal Nissan political reasons. A lot of the companies involved financed the effort themselves when Nissan Japan cut the money. After the championship win, Nissan Japan changed their minds and went worldwide with the effort.
  8. Where did I say that? Yes, the Miata is very similar to the 240Z. But if you think a MX5 is a 2,500 lb. car you haven't put one on a set of scales. I scaled a MX5 MSM a few months ago and it came in at 2,710.
  9. Taylor Race Engineers can easily build a Quaife Sequential 6 speed that will bolt up to your L6. They built me a 5 speed sequential a few years ago.
  10. Back in 1970 when the 240Z came out it was generally not considered a sports car by any of the car magazines. It was termed a Grand Touring car along the same lines as the Porsche 911 and Jaguar XKE Coupe. Back then sports cars were convertibles. Over the years, that opinion has changed. Given today's safety requirements and customer's content expectations its probably impossible to make a car like the original 240Z that weighs less then 2700 lbs. And whether we want it or not is irrelevant. We so small a market that we are basically non-existent.

  13. Using ATE Super Blue as the new replacement fluid makes the whole process a lot easier. You will know when the new fluid is at the calipers/wheel cylinders.
  14. 9 to 1 and 10 to 1 is not high compression. That's a normal engine compression range.
  15. Sounds like its been installed incorrectly. Wobble is bad.
  16. Wrong impression. We have a full model of the BMW E36 suspension in Mitchell and I'm in the process of building a full model of the S30 suspension using the same software.
  17. Get longer wheels studs and 10mm spacer as suggested above.

  19. 4.44 gears were available as a ring and pinion for the R180 from Nissan Comp for years. Very common racing install for the 510 guys here in the US. The R190 4.44 was installed by Nissan in a couple cars in Japan with a two pinion CLSD. It might have also been installed in Australian and European vehicles. Its sometimes referred to as the R192. I had one and spent silly amounts of money replacing one pinion bearing. That bearing is NLA now in the US and Japan. I eventually sold the diff to Ron Carter.
  20. The Cosworth Vega? That 110 hp, 12.3 second 0 - 60 screaming machine? That outstanding engine that burned exhaust valves, blew head gaskets, and split their blocks so much that Chevy had to go way beyond their warranty to keep the DOT happy? That engine that Kieth Duckworth was quoted as saying (at the start of the project), “You couldn’t easily see where it was likely to break first” and said at the end of the project, "...the worst car to ever have our name associated with..." That incredible chassis that was delivered to customers with rust already starting inside the front fenders? The incredible marketing that priced the car just $500 less then a new Corvette?
  21. Did that once. Except it was forklift instead of a BBQ. Cost me $650 to get the dent fixed and the freshly painted 1/4 panel freshly repainted. Called myself something much worse then "Idiot."
  22. I think the Frissell GTU car was offered at higher then that. Never sold at that amount.
