  1. If it was sold as a kit Tokico most likely packed it with the three front springs. They do that from time-to-time. Check the part numbers on the shocks too. I sell the spring separately but I really, really try to talk people out of buying the 5020 springs. The front progressives suck on a 240Z. The 5022s from the 280Z kit are much better.   4. You're building a straw man and then tearing it down. The car (owner) did not set out to achieve the goals you state when he built the car. He built a car based on his own desires and is now trying to recoup as much of the money he put into it as he can. I don't think he gives a rat's patootie whether he sets some kind of precedent with the sale. My racing 240Z had $65,000 in it. I did not build the car to set a sale price precedent for racing 240Zs and I ended up parting it out for about $24,000 when everything was done. It might have set some kind of precedent on a parted out old Datsun, but who cares?
  5. You're just now seeing this? Well built, quality hot rods have been selling for insanely big bucks for decades. Go to any of the top national hot rod shows (NSRA Nationals, GN Roadster Show, Hot Rod Super Nats) you'll see lots of beautifully crafted custom cars selling for six figures. I applaud folks who make something unique out of the mundane. I mean, how boring would Z car shows be if everyone showed up with a stock, restored car? How many original 1972 240Zs can you look at? "Look, there's another orange one, right next to those other seven orange 1972s. Oh wait, that orange one has an automatic! Man I need to sit down, this is too much excitement..." :-)

  7. If you can run the FS5W71C 5 speed (Austin sells adapters) OS Giken sells a closer ratio gearset: 2.596 1st, 1.765 2nd, 1.250 3rd, 1.00 4th, .833 5th. Comes with an upgraded mainshaft.
  8. Just to be a bit nit picky, 99% of the handling improvements people see from lowering their car come from the increased spring rate, not the physical reduction of ride height. In most cases, people lower their S30s too much and negate most of the handling benefits that come from the increased spring rate.
  9. Yes except the stamped steel shield is a different depth on the 240Z side axles. You cannot use the R160 side alxes on an R180 without cutting off that shield. The shield on the R180 side axles will sit about 3/8" away from the side seals when used in an R160.
  10. 25 for the R180 and 29 for the R200. 27 spline is the Subaru WRX STi R180.
  11. Twice pipes are a style/sound thing and adding a crossover will change the sound.
  12. The P30 series can be adapted to the 240Z. It does require re-valving (depending on intended use), a specific gland nut, spacers under the inserts (if not running shortened struts) and the "D" hole in the stock insulators drilled round. Re-valving is $75 per shock. I don't know what the shock purchase price is but I'll have more info next week. Typical track valving is 300/100.
  13. Diamond Racing Wheels makes them. They are not a stock looking steel wheel, more like a NASCAR steel "D" hole wheel.
  14. Most likely a new jet and needle. You can also bump up the compression ration, run more cam, etc.
  15. I'm sending in a set of 4 for a customer today that are getting checked, rebuilt, and dyno'd. Bilstein still offers plenty of service and support for the P30s.
  16. If you tune your engine for the higher Ethanol content you can make more power. Lots of autocrossers here in SoCal have gone to 90% Ethanol and are seeing 20% increases in power.
  17. 5/8" in or out on both sides (1 1/4" total toe) is wrong. You couldn't push the car and driving it would generate a lot of tire squeal. Find another shop.
  18. "RB" and "Cheap" are two words that do not got together - ever.
  19. My comments: Bushings do not need any sanding or fitting to put them in place - at least I've never had to fit them and I've installed dozens of these kits. I think you might have not removed the steel bushing sleeves that are left behind when the old rubber bushings are removed. IIRC, the Eibach springs should have the longer springs installed in front and the shorter springs installed in back. Its been a while since I installed a set but I think that's the correct way.
  20. Two tone paint job: $4,000 to $6,500. Used seats (Miata): $250 a pair plus $250 to install. Tires (good new ones): $425 installed. Front end alignment and steering wheel centering: $65 assuming NO parts need to be replaced. Replace back louvers: $125. Good luck.
