  2. I dont know what to do, I check the gaps on the B6ES plugs from the box and they were all .039 and thats what I thought they were supposed to be(read a reference) and I also got the NE61 wires, now my car wont run right at all, what am I supposed to do? It idles at 500 and backfires and sputters
  3. Hey guys, I have been contemplating the many things one can do to a 77280Z and I keep asking myself... what should I do after I have straightend out my body work and paint.. I am merely brainstorming, seeing as I will start moding most likely in march, give or take a month... I have considerd maybe replacing my EFI with carbs... but I have read on other forums that the EFI can be more finly tuned(however difficult). While carbs are easier to maintain and use but are not as accurate when tuning... I would like everyones opinions on this one... Thanks guys, Im still learning with my Z -ZZZap

  5. What is the factory gap for a 280Z? My plugs are traditional ngks B6ES-11
  6. I orderd new plugs and wires (ALL NGK) for my 280 and they will get to me friday and I will put them in Saturday. Will I have to gap them any more if they are pregapped? thanks guys
  7. that sounds like a plan (the cheaper meathod) I do have friends that have tools and what not (including a welder). so all I would have in it would be a little help and price of materials and paint. is this somethere that could effect the drivability of my car?
  8. I was checking the battery tray and I figured it would be rusted, the tray is actually not that bad, but theres rust on the wheel well and rusted through(I actually pressed on it and more broke off)... Does anyone know how expensive this would be to fix (an average estimate) I appreciate guys!

  11. The lines are scratches, I was refering to the holes on the lower end under the bumper.

  14. They're scratches where the paint has flipped up.
  15. Attached is a picture of my rear quarter panel. I have read various discussions about tabco panels and I was wondering if I would need to use a replacement panel or if this can be fixed in an alternative manner... seeing as I am by no means, a body man, I was asking for general advice on this one... thanks guys
  16. I am looking to replace my instrument light bulbs, does anyone know where I can find them?
  17. Well the day started out pretty normal, it was pretty clear outside when I woke up and headed off to get things done. I went by work to get my check, found out that a deduction was made that shouldnt have been... lost 24$ (thats alot when you work part time and pay insurance and gas and work on your car etc...). I was ok with that though, wasnt gonna let it ruin my day... I proceeded to the Nissan dealership to pick up both of my AFM hoses I orderd... they weren't there of course, now I have to wait until tuesday..(My hoses are rotted and I have a vaccume leak that causes my air/fuel mixture to go zaney). I was even ok with that... so I thought to myself, oh its a clear day! I'll go home and drive the z for a little while (seeing as I havnt drove it in a few days). I go home and get in the Z and headed out... everything was going great... I then decided to visit a local paint/body shop that my grandparents told me was reputal and was gonna get them to look over my Z, but lo and behold! it starts to rain(after raining constantly for the majority of a month)... seeing as I have two small leaks behind my fenders that drips into my floorboards, I tried to make it home... I was driving in the older part of town, very casually I might add... and there is someone stoped at a stop sign... they appear to be not moving, waiting for me to pass, but, haha! they begin to pull out in front of me just as I near them... great! i thought to myself, not only is it raining, but me and my Z are gonna hit a P.O.S. pontiac grand-am.... I braked and downshifted to 2nd from third and evaded him within a hairs distance... thankfully there was not impact and me and my Z were safe.... I figured I had hadled iit well, I made it home and coverd her up.... a few hours passed... It stoped raining and cleard up! yay I said, maybe I can get something done, I work on the hatch abit, inspecting the half fuctioning lock and taking the tag light panel off and taking out the old bulbs... I got in my other vehicle and drove to the auto parts place... I find the right ones and bingo I head off again back to the house... and guess what happens! .. A freak rain/thunderstorm suddenly appears out of nowhere... I am like SH!T, I gotta go put the panel back on.... I get back and inspect the wires, they're dry thank god, I put in the new bulbs and and turn on my lights... and HAHA! the tag lights dont work!.. so I put everything up and slowly went inside.... and I am thinking to myself.... "damn apartments.." -Jared

Hey there buddy, you and I are in the same boat About two weeks ago I bought myself a 77 280, my first Z, the same as yours, not all original mechanically, but a very sound running car. I have done some tweeking to mine so far, maybe we can help each other since we're both newbs. Ok, why dont you gimme a semi-detailed describtion of how your z is running (idle and so forth) etc... and we can compare notes here.
  21. Welcome man! I too am a Znewb, ive been here about a week, everyone is helpful and willing to answer any questions you might have
  22. Would the ZX setup and whatnot be better than my 77's? (sorry I know I sound like an idiot )
  23. I found this guide on how to rebuild the 280ZX dizzy, it seems to be a good resourse, I thought it might be helpful to others with my inquiry. I would think that rebuilding one from the junker would be the best and cheapest way to go, the guy also custom makes replacement bushings, its interesting... Dizzy Rebuilding
  24. Thanks. What about a new ignition system? I'm sure the factory one I have is wore out a bit, it ouldnt hurt to replace it
  25. Hi guys, I'm a new Z'er and I am thinking of replaceing my stock ignition parts (coil and system) and also plugs and plug wires. I'm looking for items geared towards moderate higher performance but not racing spec. I have been looking at many different items, but I would like to get everyones opinions first... 1977 280Z thanks guys
