  1. I replaced all of mine and am happy I did. The panels do not rattle now and it even looks better. What I used were actual screws and retaining nuts. They come in various sizes and I got them at AutoZone. Don't have the size but am going there tomorrow and will get the stock part number for you. Anyway, they are black flat metal pieces with kinda a U shape that fit over the hole. The screw then goes into it and it fits tight & secure. Each box contains retaining nuts and scews and cost about 1.50 each for about ten pieces. Again, I will confirm all this for you tomorrow.

Thanks…. I keep toying with the idea of going with 16” Rewinds in gunmetal but I can’t seem to be able to do it.

Mark, In the case of your battery, I really don’t think it’s a nitpicking issue but rather a safety issue. There is good reason why positive cables are red and negative cables black or some other color besides red. Now you may know and are aware of the fact that the cables are reversed but should someone else, a friend, mechanic, starts having to mess with the battery I can pretty much assure you they will not look down and search for the itty bitty + or – symbol on the battery. Rather, they will see red and assume positive and they will clamp the positive there and you might then have more than an itty-bitty problem. It’s a simple fix and it gives you a chance to not only clean the ground but also get a decent size ground wire to the firewall.

Then my eyes are going too.... seems like they are upside down alright...... Regarding the battery cable is that small red cable attached to the firewall? Is that not where the ground is or is it going through the firewall?

Marty, All kidding aside, I too once had a bra (it was cool in those days) and discarded it after it became apparent that it was doing more damage than protecting.... Anyway, I am sure I have several of the clips left and will dig them out today. If you can use them let me know.... they are yours.....

Au contraire, this one attaches with specially designed, factory authorized, genuine aluminum clips covered in soft vinyl. Six clips are provided, each one individually hand made and guaranteed to hold and secure the factory bra to the hood at maximum speeds in all weather conditions.

I will be happy to defer to your years of experience…. However, when I look at your wire mags they do look polished and when I look at the subject mags they look much more brilliant. Now, this may have a lot to do with the photograph and how things are doctored.

918 it is...... Here's a color, sorry, colour chart..... http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html The mag's look chromed to me.... It would be hard to get that kind of shine/brilliance from a polished mag....

Randy, Yes, I often wonder how time flies so fast..... I don't have any experience with Dynamat but it certainly has the reputation for being the best and the most expensive. Are you putting anything on top of the Dynamat? Let me know what you think when you get it installed. I will say that with the Second Skin product, I first laid it out in the driveway in the sun (you might remember what that is) since its about 80 here...and just let it set there as I was putting it in. Worked great. Of course, you should hit 80 degrees say about August or so????? BTW, have you register with the IZCC as an original owner. If not, you might want to consider it. Here is the site..... http://zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/ Good luck with the install.....

Randy, To answer your question, the Second Skin went right over the rubber grommets in the floorboards and over the holes on the side rails as well. First, I took the grommets out. One did not look the greatest with a bit of superficial rust around the hole so I cleaned that out, POR’d all around the holes and the second skin went over it. I figured that in 34 years I never used the holes so it’s unlikely I will do so again in the next 34. I can well imagine that it would be a pain to remove the SS and the noise mat that is glued to it but I really would not worry about it.

Prep-work is vitally important…change that to “critically” important. Putting any kind of sealer/deadener down without taking care of any rust problem is just asking for problems. As a matter of fact there is no doubt you will have problems. Therefore, be sure that before you start you have done all the prep work to get any kind of rust taken care of (POR is great by the way). I have installed ‘Second Skin’ products and I have been extremely happy with it. I opted for a two-step system, consisting of a butyl product, (Damplifier) and a noise sheet, (Over Kill). Dampilifier was a breeze to put in, easy to cut, adjust, re-position etc. The noise sheet requires a spray adhesive and that was more problematic. Once you get both sides sprayed it will stick and in tight spots it was hard to work with and make any kind of minor adjustments. My solution then became to work with smaller pieces and for larger sections I would spray one side, wait till it glued down well and then lift off the un-sprayed piece and spray underneath it and lay it flat. Before starting this project, like you, I did a lot of searching and in an old thread here found a great write-up about dampening. Perhaps you’ve come across it but if not, this is a MUST read: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ The results with Second Skin are simply amazing. They are a great company to deal with, very knowledgeable, friendly and certainly for what you are getting, the price is right. There are cheaper products out there and there’s even Home Depot/local roofing places as mentioned in many old posts. I did not want to go that route and am glad I went with Second Skin. You can check them out at: http://www.secondskinaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi Since I just recently completed this project I can’t give you a very detailed longevity report. But, so far so good. A far as rust is concerned it is unlikely I am going to get under this stuff to check it out. I do know I got to everything I could possibly find and anything that remotely looked suspicious got attacked with POR. Since the outer part of my car is and has been Ziebarted it will be difficult to identify rust from the exterior. So, my fingers are crossed and am hoping for the best in the years to come.

  21. I use a Duralast, model 17350 (AutoZone special) that is 1.3cm X 89 cm. I believe the stock length is 93 cm. The belt fits perfectly on the stock pulley, however, I have to use a tad shorter belt as I have the Zspecialties alternator. I am maxed out on my alternator bar and am looking for a longer/better looking one.
