Z-Cars at Barrett-Jackson Auction
I thought the 71 was oversold. Yes it was nice, very nice. But IMHO it just had too much of a mix match of too many Z’s parts that just did not make it a perfect example. What I mean here is that he had everything from Fairlady Z emblems, 300ZX seats, a custom non-stock console, Alpine stereo, to an I don’t know what steering wheel in an otherwise beautiful non-original color. Now, I am not a purist believing that a Z must be totally stock. You would not get points off in my book if you had a 5 spd, different rear end, bigger radiator, larger wheels etc. But this was a bit over the top. The owner certainly was up front about the car calling it a custom, high performance restoration with the emphasis on custon. Unquestionably the owner put a lot into it. He had a one-page laundry list of all that he had done to the car, which was certainly very impressive. Also impressive was the credentials he wrote about like it being featured in Hot Rod Magazine. This is all great and wonderful but a representation of a US spec 71 Datsun 240Z it was not. A Z rod yes. At B&J’s, I think he was lucky to get what he got. Oh, and I would take Dreco’s over this one any day……

B-J auction Z
I was there and IMO, the 72 sold well... perhaps more than it should have but then again it's at B&J and things tend to go high there..... The surprise for me was the 71 Dessert Red that sold for $22,680. Nice car but what a mix match of things on it....Z parts from Fairlady to 300ZX.... the list is unbelievable.... I hung around the car for almost two hours going over every inch of it (The car was open and so was the hood). The thing that struck me was how many people it attracted and how many positive comments people were making. And I am talking lots of people..... The owner was nowhere to be found ( I imagine after so many hours the poor guy was tired of talking....) but he did leave his name and mobile phone number on the car if anyone wanted to get ahold of him..... I thought perhaps it would bring 25K and I made a small side bet with a guy who was with me that it would go for 25K... didn't quite make it but came darn close.....

MSA 10th Anniversay Show 2005
Thank you Carl.... This Ramada I am staying at according to Mapquest is only 2.8 miles from MSA, I figure I can stagger back to my room from that distance and the price is not so bad.....

MSA 10th Anniversay Show 2005
Carl, Perhaps I'm not seeing it.... I've been to Ramada's web site, under city of Orange, all I get are Anaheim addresses and three pages of other Ramadas in the area. Nothing in Orange.

MSA 10th Anniversay Show 2005
Can't find the Ramada on their web site with this phone number. There are three using Anahiem in their name. Made a reservation at the one on West Katella Ave, (714-991-6868) for $59.00 a nite. Anyone know if this is close by to the show? George

ZRear
Thank you for the complement..... I like to think she is pristine and try to keep her that way..... In 1973, my Dad bought me this brand new Z. He promptly informed me and anyone else in the family who would listen, that because he did so he could not buy himself a Rolex watch. For more years than I care to remember he always found a way to remind me (in a joking way). So that is how the car got its name. By the way, twenty five years ago he got his gold Rolex, (and that is another story) yet at age 92 he never fails to ask me how's "Rolex" running......

73-240Z
Riken, 15"........However, am toying with the idea of changing over to Konig Rewind wheels.... very similar to Pana's at half the price. I am hoping the fancy will pass as these Riken have been great wheels.

Datsun of the Beach-Wonderful Parts Guy!
I would like to share with other members an experience I just had on Ebay. I just purchased a combination switch from Datsunofthebeach. After receiving the part I discovered that the right signal was not working yet everything else was fine. I sent the seller, Jim, a note explaining the situation and he immediatelyfired me back a note offering to exchange or refund my money no questions asked. I offered, but he declined to even accept postage fees. Folks, there are not many sellers on Ebay like this which is why I wanted to bring this Z-part seller to your attention. He’s got lots of stuff listed so do give a look and buy with confidence.
