light rust removal
Thanks i found a 71 240z for less then $1500. I took it to a mechanic who works on old datsun. It needed minor work but nothing i could not handle. Now i started to remove some of the old paint prepairing to have it prep and painted. So far i started with the left rear quarter panel. I washed the car down, then i started to strip the paint with sand paper. I started off with 600 wet, then 400, to 200. The paint is so old and weak the 600 was removing some of the paint. The car is green but underneath is orange. When i sand i sand down until i see grey or mental. When i rest or quit i dry off any wet spots to avoid more rust. I usually do not have to worry about that too much being from so.cal. Any rust that needed to be cut, remove and bondo (FIBER GLASS) im going to let a pro do it. This is my first time sanding a car down any suggestion from you guys. All ya i been searching on the web and here so i been doing my homework. Just want to make sure. Thanks

Saddest Day
Sorry to hear that hopefully in your near future there will be another 240z. I just bought 71 z and its my second car. I believe with older cars its usually safer to have it as a second car. To keep as collectables. People out there do not get mad at me, but i do not think i can drive the z as a daily driver. I would be worry that it will break down and i will be late to work and the boss dont want to hear it when youre late. Parents always looking out for their kids best interest. I know you dont want to hear that but it will make sence when you get older. If youre that passionate about the Z you will get one. Might have to wait when youre 18 have a job or out of the house if you want it it will be yours. Just keep your head up.

1973 economy restoration
Jmark I like the work on the car do you have any before pictures. Im not sure if it going to help soymilk, but it will help me to decided how much work and money i want to spend on my car. Solmilk i took out my Z today and while i was driving through El Monte(LA area) i saw so many body shops it was crazy. So i think you should be able to find a good price. There going to compete for your business.

1973 economy restoration
When he said economy restoration i was thinking the lower part of the spectrum. Just enough to make his car look ok. Well there are shops that might not specialize in z but does a good job with other cars. Like Modern, classics, low riders and so on. LA is the place theres tons of shops with good prices. Its a judgement call i seen people and knew people that spent thousands and thousands of dollars on paint jobs and it did not hold up. While i meet other who spent little to nothing and to this day their car is still looking good. Just shop around some more and fine the right price for you. If they have a photo book of what they done in the past that should help a lot. Also look at their past history problem with BBB. Good luck, Ah yeah if you find a place that you like at a cheap i mean economy price hit me up as well.

1973 economy restoration
Hey he said he wanted something inexpensive. Either that Earl scheib or One Day Paint and Auto. Maybe to him the car is only worth so much any more might be a waste of money. Im not trying to put words in his mouth im just taking a wild guest of what he is thinking.

car shakes
I had the car inspected by mechanic who knows about z. He was explaining to me that it was a combination of things. First being the tire pressure was too low and needs to be replace but no real hurry. The second thing was the driveshaft needs rebuilt or replace. No real hurry there either. He tighten up the bolts and added more air. So far so good it runs fine. The clutch and tranny was fine. I seen where bad clutches make the car shake real bad. To bambi killer i was at your city yesterday filling up gas in my car. I should had you inspected the car...just messin...I was in the bay area to pick up the 71z to take it home to LA. the 580 to the 5 home. The car ran and runs great no problems at all but real long trip. Four stops seven hours later i made it home. Thanks again

car shakes
When i engage on the gas and let the clutch up It will shake from side to side then it will go away. I have to put just enough gas and clutch for it not to happen. Im not tearing down the street this will is at normal driving. Im going to lift the car look at all the bolts and back tires then drive it. I will come back with the results. Thanks

car shakes
When im at a complete stop and start moving forward my back end of my car shakes then stops. What could it be? Could it be loose bolts in the driveshaft, broken shaft, u joint, or something different. all yah im new to this site and just picked up a 240z manual tranny.

'76 280Z AC compressor into '71 240Z?
When you buy the older factory ac unit is there away to convert the r12 to r134. I heard its harder to buy freon for the r12 and lot more expensive to refill.

light rust removal
I have seen a couple of 240z in my price range and test drove them and it ran fine. The problem is they never have the paper work right. Tags are way over due, own tickets, try to sell the car with another person name on the pink slip registration. Im more worry about having the title transferring in my name then rust. :disappoin but i will keep looking. Thanks guys

light rust removal
Im new to this site and planning on buying a 240z soon. I been researching close to a year. I like to know if chemical rust removal helps any, especially on light to moderate areas. And other rust be cut out patched and painted? This will not be a show car but something nice to cruise around in. Any suggestion? Live in sunny southern California so future rust will not be too much of a problem.
