It seems that clear zinc is correct. At least that is what is on the 70 - #00869 in my driveway. JLP

I was the third owner, looking at this ad. I thought I purchased it from the first owner, but I purchased it our to New Mexico from Jim Campbell in the mid-70's from an ad in Auto Week. He had raced it and it had been in the run offs it was painted in the BRE Livery when I purchased it (the only picture of it in this livery is below). Les still has the car and is managing the upgrades. I will be picking it up in March if all goes as planned. Does anyone know what the easiest way to change the air pump filter housing is on the 1972 Datsun 240Z?

Is the back cast iron black or natural cast?

Rebuilding a smog pump. Wanting to confirm details. The back casting of the pump looks as if it was black. The pulley, mounting bracket, and adjustment arm Datsun engine blue. Can someone confirm this for me. Also this is all of the parts getting ready for paint, and plating next a set of hoses. I will post more as this project progresses. Thanks PS I am still looking for a confirmed source for the Datsun blue engine paint, not something close but the real deal. If you look closely at the photo I have not blasted the adjustment arm yet, it has a good clean coat of the original paint for comparison.

I am so confused. The car I have posted is HLS30-00869 pre 1970 production date. It belonged to a William Taylor a Coronal in the USAF. Abandoned at a body shop in 1988 in Fairborn, Ohio which boarders Wright Patterson AFB. So Robert Hertel, Jr was the first owner of this car? Who was his dear friend that he sold the car to? There is no Campbell in the line of ownership mentioned in my post. Signed Confused

I installed my Libre wheels to get it off the trailer looked great. It is now on stands, the engine is out and on it's stand and the parts are bagged tagged and on it's cart. Anxious to get back to it tomorrow morning.

No, I picked it up for a friend in Europe. I am going to pull the engine and build a period correct race engine with this early engine for him. I wish it were mine!
