I am looking for new or used rust free front fenders for a 240Z. I believe 70 - 74 are the same.
  2. When I look at early pictures of my 1970 Race Car it has a set of these wheels on it. I don't remember having these or what I did with them. I bought and ran Minilite Wheels. How difficult is it to find a set of these in 14X5.5's? I know that VTO makes reproductions, but am interested in a period set. JLP
  3. $1.00 a pound sounds reasonable to me. Which knobs do you need exactly. I may, more than likely, have a couple. JLP
  4. Check on the shipping on all of it. I believe that taking the rails apart will make the packaging easier and the packages smaller. thanks jlp
  5. It's my new project! Steve thank you for your original sharing of this ebay find. I originally went to see it due to it's proximity to me thinking parts car at best due to the perception of rust having taken over. I found that the rust you see is the rust you get with the exception of just above the frame rails in the front wheel wells. The floors are solid the fuel tank looks solid. I attribute this to sitting inside the heated garage. Original wheel covers, within the first 5000, all original parts intact. I am stoked for the restoration of this series one car. This is an original owner 50,000 car with a story to tell. Would this be considered a "Barn Find"?
  6. shipping quote will be to zip 47374 Thanks JLP
  7. I am an old school photography major with a Bessler 45 series motorized enlarger etc... I still like dabbling in the art of it and requested pricing back when this was first posted. I am still interested if the price is right. Thanks JLP
  8. I will make that decision if my offer is accepted and I get it home and clean it up and see what I have in total. My thought is to restore but a BRE clone would be fun as well. I am anxious to get an answer, that is the problem in dealing with a third party in these situations but the man representing the car is a great guy. I should know today before I leave for vacation. JLP
  9. Made an offer on the car. The seller's friend raised the price while he gets in touch with the seller to see if he will accept my offer. I will post if I get the car. I will not be able to pick it up for a couple of weeks, I am leaving on vacation tomorrow. Once I have picked it up and cleaned it up I will post some pictures. 10. Took a look at the car this evening. A friend of the original owner took me too the house to see the car the owner is in Florida. It is always sad to see a Z in this condition. The Vin# is 04574 May of 1970 production date. Everything is locked up the engine brakes etc. The floors are in better condition than I expected but the front frame rails are shot along with the rockers, rear quarters, rear inner fenders as well as the front fenders. There is indication of sag in the fitment and closing of the right door, but that could be due to the way is is on the jack stands. The dash is cracked. I am pondering whether to make an offer or not. I plan to get back with the friend of the owner after thinking it over tonight. The mice will not be happy if I trailer it home and I believe that smell will linger for a long time.
  11. I am withing an hour and have contacted the seller to arrange an inspection. It is rough and does not look like heated garage for last 30 years but......
  12. My car came back from restoration with terrible fitment problems in the sheet metal. I lived with it until I had the time to correct it properly. The doors did not close properly, the hood did not open properly the front fenders had to be bolted on with pan head machine screws due to the fact that there was not clearance for the heads of the proper bolts. We started out by removing the front sheet metal and taking some basic body measurements. We found that the right front shock tower had moved in 1/4" while on the rotisserie (we assume). First the tower had to be pulled then we began by aligning the doors to the back quarters. We had to install spacers in the top hinges to get the door sitting correctly with the rear fender. Once this was complete the doors closed properly. We then began installation of the front fenders. the tops of the doors being spaced out slightly and the correction of the right tower make the fitment correct. We had to move the mount, (the fender mount inside the front of the door opening) out. The fenders aligned relatively easily once the doors were in their proper place. The hood posed a bit of an issue initially. We raised the hood and took out the springs then set it down in place. We tightened the hinge to body screws then installed the springs. We set the front height by loosening the bolts and pushing the hood slightly below the point of level with the light buckets, the springs push the hood up slightly once you let pressure off. During this process I had both access doors off the front fenders, the battery and the windshield washer bottle removed. This allowed me to reach in and tighten the hood striker once the hood was closed in place. It is also helpful if the hood does not want to release during the adjustment process, you can reach in and loosen the bolts to release the hood. This is basically the process we used and it made an amazing difference in the fitment of of the sheet metal. I am extremely happy with the results. We did chip some paint here and there and will have to address this in the near future. I hope this helps with you project I will try and get some photos to post when I have some time. JLP
  13. I had some serious alignment issues and there was a learning curve on alignment. I will share what I found in a day or two when I have a little time. JLP
  14. My Z has been at the body shop for the past week I worked with the shop on a couple of body panel alignment issues. We finished working them out today and I will be bringing it home tomorrow to put the rest of the front end back together. I still have some work to do but we made great progress in getting the panels properly aligned.

If you can be more specific I may be able to find some of these fasteners. Where do they specifically go? Pictures? JLP

This is a correct harness, I have a number of them. They range for an early 1970 to 1973 model years. The blue wire is taped off on this one. I can pull out some more if you need to see some others. .
  19. I used a speedi-sleve on my FJ40 Emergency Brake drum and it works well. I do not believe that you will have an issue. I used the Loctite sleeve product (green I believe). JLP

    Do you have the source?
  21. I don't know for sure, but it seems that the early Series 1 cars were slightly different. I do not know it they were still interchangeable. JLP

I worked on the fire and rescue crews at the Indianapolis 500 for a number of years and experienced first hand the national pride that the Japanese had for their countries drivers while being assigned to work in Hiro's pit one year. My son and I were working on his house and listening to the race we shared a high five when the attempted pass failed on lap 197. I knew then that history was being made. I watched the re-telecast of the race that night and even knowing the outcome enjoyed it.
  23. I don't know how many members have these mirrors, I have the original set that I purchased with the car and an extra set just in case. The second set is missing one of these gaskets.

My point exactly, sarcasm is best served cold. Sato's 2017 Indy race was masterful. He was quietly upfront and out of trouble all day and there is nothing to say about the last five laps but mastery of holding P1.
  25. I have the original Datsun optional sport mirrors on my 1972 Z they seem to be the same as the "Black Pearl Mirrors" not sure about that. I contacted a vendor about making replacement gaskets for them (between the base and the door). He stated that he has not had anyone ask about them so he does not want to invest in reproducing them, which is understandable. Is there anyone else besides me that would be interested in these parts if they were reproduced? Obviously there has to be a number of initial orders to justify the reproduction of these parts.
