My son is currently taking Emergency Medical Technician class in preparation of becoming a Paramedic. He is thinking of scrapping the 17 week class he is in and taking the 2 week class in Bloomington. (he has completed pre-med at LaSalle University). In the case he does decide to go to Bloomington for two weeks and IU does not house him do any of you Bloomington members have any ideas for affordable accommodations for two weeks? JLP

Thanks Eugene, I have been working on the to do list. I was able to get the hood adjusted after reading a few post on the subject here. After returning the updated clock to Ron it now is back in and the quarts movement is working perfectly. I am still working on door adjustment, closing hard (any suggestions would be appreciated). Last night, first night cruise in the Z, when I put it back in the garage I noticed that the left front fender emblem had fallen off. I retraced my drive and found the emblem but it had been run over, very disappointing. I am looking for a replacement on ebay.
  3. We came home from vacation early and that allowed me to finally make time to work on some of the to-do list on my Z. The past week I was able to: Install the upgraded clock (quartz movement installed in the original clock), rework the dash wiring getting the radio, heater and indicator lights (seat belt, choke) working, install the restored 240Z emblem on the glove box door, install the correct hazard switch label on the dash, raise the center of the dash to allow for correct clearance for the console, install the new leather shift boot, install the restored electric antenna, install the restored luggage straps, and install the new plastic rear interior panel. This completes 80% of my to-do list in just two days. Once I have completed the list it goes to a friend’s body shop (Braun Auto Body,he restores mostly 60's and 70's muscle cars)for fine tuning of the alignment of the doors, hood and rear hatch. It felt good to be able to take the time to work on the Z. I am not letting myself work on the restoration of my recently acquired 72 FJ40 until I complete all of my to-do list on the Z.

I have had a couple of deals with New Datsun Parts and found him to be knowledgeable and fair.
  5. Your luggage straps look great, I had Norm Murphy restore a set for me. Basically he took the straps off and plated the metal parts and screws and put them back together. I had to dye the straps myself prior to installation. They do look great, I was just disappointed with the lack of attention to the actual straps.

Carl, I'm sorry for not replying sooner, I missed this post. It was $80.00 and I supplied two nice set of straps. I ended up using the screws and metal hardware from the restored set and having the webbing replaced locally. The straps are now very nice and I just installed them today.
  8. Thanks, I sent out a certified letter to the address on the title.
  9. Thanks for the try. The number comes back as disconnected. I believe it is going to take someone in the area to get me contact information. Northern California? If I have no luck getting a phone number I guess I will try a certified letter but it will not happen prior to vacation so I will not get to take the FJ to the lake with me this year. Thanks for the try. JLP
  10. That is what I got when I tried to use 411.com it gave me the reults of the search and then when I clicked on the result I was looking for it took me to intelius. I had already wasted my time with paying for white pages so I stopped at that point. jlp
  11. I purchased a 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser;) and I am trying to contact the prior owner for some title help. Anyone near Vacaville, CA that can look up the phone number for me. I tried white pages and paid for a report and did not get any results, what a scam! Help Please! Thanks JLP
  12. You always find today what your were looking for yesterday as you fail to find what you are looking for today. So why don't we look for today what we want to find tomorrow?:bulb: Then we would find what we are looking for today!
  13. Our latest classic vehicle acquisition! Been looking at vintage Datsun Patrols but I could not find a good true survivor out there so when I found this great 1972 TOYOTA Land Cruiser FJ40:cool: Hardtop all original survivor I could not pass it up. I will post photos when I get it home Sunday.

This is a members Z you might want to take a look at. Datsun : Z-Series 2 Door in Datsun | eBay Motors
  16. Thanks for the input Carl, it is appreciated and not taken lightly. I would not consider this set appropriate for using under high stress or racing at this point in their life. I do think they give a great period correct look for display or show and I would not have any problem driving on them under normal driving and road conditions.

I have a set of original 14"X7" magnesium Datsun Z racing Minilites with a fresh coat of powder coat.
  18. After checking my garage attic, if not found, I will look at the inventory list of the box's I took out to Les for the 29 car. Hopefully it will be in one or the other place. JLP
  19. Alan, here are some photos of the set. I had planned to have the aluminum parts media blasted but have not gotten around to it. The belt is NOS I believe.

Frank, I have a 72 or late 71 steering wheel but I could not find the extra set of hooks. They will turn up when I least expect it. Let me know if you are interested in the wheel. The difference is that the 70 and 71 wheels did not have the cut outs in the spokes. I believe that they did appear in the late 71 production models.
  21. Chris, thanks for the Minilite research you provided, you can always be counted on for getting the facts. As for the racing Minilites durability I don't know if you are familiar with IRP (Indianapolis Raceway Park), Probably best know for the National Drag Race held there annually on the long front straight away. IRP has a 2 2/1 mile road coarse with 15 turns. If I remember correctly turn 13 is the carousel with an access road leading to it on the outside. I once slid off there and went sideways into and across the access road believing that I had destroyed my wheels at the very least. The concentric bushing in the suspension were spun around effecting the camber but the wheels were not damaged what so ever. I believe this was a testament to their seemingly being indestructible. One of the things that I found interesting is that they, at the time, adjust the offset by making the center section thicker or thinner. The offset for the Z application make for a very thick center section. The lug nuts are super cool with what looks like a large bolt head with a thick washer and a long shaft to reach the lug bolts. I think they will look great in black zinc. I believe that someone wanting to put together a period correct CP replica will love these wheels and lug nuts. I also have a set of original Datsun Comp spings (lowers the car approximately 2”) and a set of Datsun Comp 1/4” drive pully's (water pump, crank shaft, and alternator) and one 1/4” belt to go with them. Les says that the problem with this original drive system is that you can no longer get replacement belts.

I contacted the seller and yes, the one here in Richmond is gone. The day I inspected it I could have purchased it for $18,000. the car sold for $21,500.00. I believe the seller said the car went to Atlanta. Member? If there is a car of interest in this area in the future I would be glad to take a look at it for you. jlp

I will check with the owner and make sure it is "gone". The point is, as Carl put so well, this is the type car you need to be lookng at not the 1,2, or 3. With your budget you will be dollars and value ahead with a good original example and they can still be found at a reasonable price. Good luck and you are on the correct site to help guide you through the process. JLP
  24. G, I was speaking tong in cheek "living dangerously". Being off the track so to speak for decades I am not in the know on what has caused the issue with the true mag wheels. Is it fracture or metallic fire questions?:paranoid: Back in the day these wheels were indestructible and they passed the magnaflux test with flying colors after media blast and pre-powder coat. I believe this speaks well overall to the material and use. But I am out of touch with the technical aspect and I still drink a big gulp now and again.
