My test drive last night, 10 minute test drive turned into a 1 hour cruse! I forget how much fun this car is to drive over the winter months.

I am happy to report that the brake problem is resolved. That is the good news. The bad news is that I have no idea what fixed it. I got so frustrated that I took each and every brake component apart and rebuilt it, flushed and blew out all of the lines and last night took it out for a spin and the brakes are working great. ?
  3. Mine seems to be missing the "larger" washer. Could you give me the details (measurements) for the washer. I will have try and match something up or does anyone have a complete valve or the washer for sale. Thanks jlp
  4. I want to make sure I reassemble the proportioning valve in the rear of the car correctly. I know that it is actually more of a delay valve, but known as a proportioning valve. My question is which direction does the inner (red) seal go and on the other end what is the order of the washer (blue) and seal and direction of the seal (green). Thanks for the help.
  5. Hard days work. Excited to get the outer rims polished and the Gibbs Oil on them and watch them become naturally beautiful!
  6. As A career firefighter, I understand why! I would have to bring my own Class D extinguisher. These are for nostalgic reasons and will show great on my street car. Thanks. JLP
  7. I have ordered the Gibbs oil and am going old school. I have all four wheels stripped and three bead blasted. Next will be the polishing of the outer rim then Gibbs oil. Thanks Carl. JLP
  8. Carl, Gibbs has a number of lubricants, is this the one?
  9. Thanks Carl. I painted my original set with dk gray IMRON, no longer legal, then polished the lip by putting it on the car on stands and idling the engine, sometime just have to make due. ?
  10. Carl, I do plan to polish the outer rim area. Have not decided on the paint or natural on the rest. I like the dark natural patina. Opinion? How long does it take for the natural patina? How hard is it to keep consistent? Thanks in advance Carl.
  11. Moving right along on the wheel restoration.
  12. Thanks for sharing you knowledge Carl! Small World Again. Here is the stroy: Back in the 70's I road raced a Datsun 240Z. I had a set of magnesium American Racing LeMans Wheels. Strong and very light. The BRE teams ran these wheels when dominating CP class in Datsun 240Z's. Logan Blackburn was one of those famed drivers back in the day and my instructor at my first driving school. See Picture of yellow wheels on his yellow car below. I had been on a quest to pick up a set of those very rare magnesium AR LeMans wheels. I recently found a set in Georgia. I was told that they were from Logan Blackburn's cars. I thought maybe. I am in the process of restoring the wheels, when I removed the valve steams it was confirmed by the yellow that these are indeed a set of Logan Blackburn's wheels. Full Circle! How Cool is this!
  13. Rims and Grill arrived today. The rims will need to be restored, can't wait to get started. They are 14x7. Looking at tire size combinations front and rear.
  14. Yes the pump is the Jidosha Kiki.

Pulled the rear brake proportioning valve off this evening and took it apart. The lower seal was full of some kind of sandy material. Does anyone have one of these Sumitomo valves they would be willing to sell? I am in the process of going through each component of the brake system. "One bite at a time". JLP
  16. This is another interesting NOS part that I recently acquired. Electric Fuel Pump upgrade.
  17. I had a set with my race car years ago and cannot remember where they got to. I have been looking for a set for a while now and will say that I "paid up" for this set. They do seem to be in good shape and reportedly, not that it matters, were from a combination of the BRE cars and Logan Blackburn's car. Logan was my instructor at my first driving school at IRP, which if these are some of his brings this full circle.
  18. I have been looking for a set of original magnesium AR LeMans wheels, found and purchased a set this week along with an NOS JDM Grill. Excited and can't wait until they arrive.

I am at wits end at this point. There are only a couple of components in the system at this point. Brake warning light switch and valve in rear brake system. I don't believe that it can be the rear brake components they have not been touched since working, and The front is back together with all of the original parts at this point. Just leaves me scratching my head. I was so hoping that the disc was the problem. JLP

I am all ears, I have removed the brake master cylinder and taken it apart. I have removed the booster and there is a black rubber disc on the front of the plunger, ( am still looking forward to comparing it to the one Charles is sending). So at this point I am still searching and thinking of a total run through of the remaining system. Ideas?

Charles, thank your for your input. Together members of this site are the brain trust on Z cars. I used to think that I was an expert on these cars, but sometimes the members of this site make me feel wanting for Z knowledge. I just hope that I can share something from time to time that helps someone. JLP

I plan to pull this apart tonight to see if the disc is missing. Since getting feedback on this thread I have watched a couple of videos on the purpose of the disc. I still don't understand how it could have been lost without my having initially worked on the booster or master cylinder, but I have looked at every other aspect of the brake system. Thanks for enlightening me to this possibility. Jerry Purcell

How much for the disc? I need to get it coming just in case, I have an event for the car in early April. Thanks Charles.

No, I did not do anything with the booster or the brake master until the change of the front calipers at which time the problem emerged. I then sent out the brake booster for inspection.

Hard pedal with very little stopping power. The booster checks out ok. I started after the MK63 upgrade and remained when I changed back to the stock brake system. I sent out the booster and it checked out ok.
