Wink Mirrors
I had one in the 00029 car when it was set up for SCCA CP. It worked really well and cut down on blind spots. JLP

heater control panel
I know that this has been discussed in past threads but I feel the need to comment on the thought that reproduction parts should be available cheep! That is why no one takes the time or trouble to make reproduction parts for our very limited market. To get the price down on parts it is all about mass production. In the area of special interest, (Z car restoration), your potential market is limited. Until we are willing to pay the price, the reproduction parts will not be available. 2 ¢

Looking for Engine Block L24-2235
Arne, I have seen that ad. Carl brought it to my attention a couple of years ago. I still have the BRE springs, 7” Mini Lites and 4:11 Limited Slip in the attic of my garage. It was not the exact history that I was given at the time that I purchased the car from Mr. Campbell in Albuquerque, but I do believe that Mr. Campbell probably purchased the car from that ad. On a more bizarre note I called a Mr. James Campbell in Albuquerque last night. I thought I had found the person from which I had purchased the car when he said that he had indeed sold his Z in 1976. Upon further discussion it was a red 1973 with 72 carbs and a vinyl top and he had sold it in Denver. Now I ask you, what were the odds? There are two J. Campbells in the Albuquerque area and I have left a message with the second. It’s a shot in the dark but a shot no less!

Looking for Engine Block L24-2235
Steve, the car was and still is race prepared. I don’t know if the original engine was built for racing and blown then replaced or if a race engine was built and dropped in the car replacing the original engine. The car had a prepared L24 in it and a L26 spare when I purchased it in 1976. I purchased the car from an individual, James Campbell, in Abuquerque.

I would probably have a better chance of winning the lottery, taking the money and having the block reproduced!

Looking for Engine Block L24-2235
A needle in a haystack! I am looking for the original engine block from my 70 240Z vin# HLS 30-00029. I believe the engine was removed:cry: in the early to mid 70’s in the Albuquerque, NM area. That is all I have to go on. The Engine block is # L24 2235

;)I just received updated photos of the installed floor pans. Les found a great metal man to modify the Zed Findings pans to work in my car. (The previously installed pans were not installed properly and damaged metal making the Zed pans too short.) I have attached photos. Les has moved our pre-paint inspection date back due to some unscheduled body repairs to some of his customer’s roadsters. The floor pan installation looks like it has turned out well. JLP

How time flies! That post was just over three years ago and tonight is three years to the day since a couple of my brother firefighters and I left on our road trip from Indiana for California to deliver the 72 to Classic Datsun Motorsports for the restoration. I was in touch with Les a few weeks back and he has set the goal of having the car ready for pre-paint inspection this month. :)I hope to have some updated photos to share in the near future.

WHat are you going to do to benefit from the "Cash for Clunkers" program
Carl Sagan that is, sorry Carl! I think that the point is well missed by all of us. We just gave billions, “billionsâ€, of tax payer’s dollars to bail out the auto industry. This time of year most manufactures have great rebates and multiple other incentive programs. Due to the “Cash for Clunkers†program the dealer incentive programs are not nearly as large or are non-existent. That means that we, “tax payersâ€, are paying for our own rebate programs this year! :stupid:Again we are bailing out the manufactures to the tune of more that a billion tax payer’s dollars. As Chris touched on this greatly increases the off the lot depreciation of all new cars sold, so again we loose. You have to love it! That being said: I just purchased a new vehicle, I will be picking it up Tuesday, and had I had a clunker to trade in of course I would have. To answer the question of how to make best use of the program: Any way you can, your paying for it!:tapemouth The bumper sticker should read: I owe, I owe, more than a trillion dollars in national debt, so off to work I, my children, my grandchildren and my grandchildren’s children go!

Free Parts (pick up this week)
I have a few parts which my wife says must go prior our annual trek to Tennessee. The parts consist of 2 engines 71 & 72 both were running when removed. The 71 has around 56K miles. I also have a right door, hood and rear hatch, with glass, (horizontal defrost), from the 71. Pick them up and they’re yours.

Deadflo, Thanks for asking. I have not heard from Les in a few months. The latest problem was the floor pan. I had another shop which had started the restoration years ago. I had a complete new factory floor for the car and when I went to check on progress they had cut it up and put pieces of it in. Needless to say I lost it! I pulled the car from that shop and put it back in storage for another 15 years or so. I had explained this to Les and sent many photos of the pan; he felt that it would not be a problem to correct. Then a couple of months ago he requested new floor pans for it due to the poor installation by the previous shop. I located and had a set of pans shipped to his shop. It has now been 29 months since I dropped off the car and plan to visit it when I get back from my annual July in Tennessee. I was just out that way for a hiking and camping trip into the Grand Canyon with my two sons. I had initially planned to go and visit Les during that trip but decided to focus on the Grand Canyon adventure and forgo the trip to Vista. I should have a lot of photos and up to date information when I go out there this fall. I am not concerned about the time frame yet but am growing anxious to drive the car and attend events, finally meeting you and other members. JLP

To Stripe or Not To Stripe?
Maybe the answer would be to have a custom set of charcoal, (original style), stripes made. That would be a great look in my opinion.
-
To Stripe or Not To Stripe?
I always thought that the factory stripe kit was well thought out with the 240Z cut into the middle stripe making it the color of the car and the Datsun lettering on the front lower fender falling in the middle of the same middle stripe. It is an entirely different look as to the one pictured on your car. As for the look of the stripe, I prefer the stripes, (original factory accessory design), in my opinion it has the effect of shorting the distance between the wheel wells giving the car the appearance of a shorter and more aggressive stance.

Put OIL in Strut housing or NOT?
I do not know the particulars on the KYB shock inserts, but in the past there were multiple reasons to put oil in the strut tube around the strut insert. The main reason is heat dissipation and a secondary reason would be future serviceability, (cut down on the possibility of corrosion inside the tube).
